And it will be judged between them in truth, and it will be said, "[All] praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds." These verses show that people will enter Paradise as a delegation - in groups That s why you need to hold on to the rope of Allah together o (Surah Al-e-Imran (#103 o When you are together, you have power (in unity) & strength "Peace be upon you; you have become pure; so enter it to abide eternally therein," o May Allah make us hear this at the entrance of Paradise all together o The first response when they hear the glad tidings from the angels they will say Praise be to Allah o For every الحمد هلل there will be another الحمد هلل because for one الحمد هلل Allah will give you some other blessing for which you will say الحمد هلل again The angels will say: they got what they deserved what they worked for in life You will see the angels encircling the throne of Allah glorifying and praising Allah Everything will be judged in truth people will go to their respective places And everyone will say: All praises and thanks to Allah 2 P a g e

[فرح] WELCOME RAMADAN WITH JOY Ramadan is a month of mercy, blessings, gratitude, patience, taqwa This yeah welcome this month with JOY? What is It is happiness & joy Allah created the human being with feelings o Why do we have these feelings? o These feelings are a gift from Allah when you use them to get closer to Allah Happiness is when you smile, and you see everything happy & good o It s a worship o Allah will give you the reward when you feel happy SubhanAllah, Allah gives a reward for your feelings also! that hits the heart when you see or feel (لذة) : a feeling / a pleasure/delight فرح something beloved/exciting to you! لذة في القلب - heart o Delight in the Everyone in life has different reasons that make him/her happy and joyful الفرح يدل على التعظيم Allah Your joy is an indicator of your magnification to o When you magnify Allah then your happiness will only be around Allah o That s how it becomes a worship o Magnify Allah & His Symbols o Magnify the commands of Allah o It makes it easy to accept the decree from Allah These are the different levels how your heart will react to a situation depending on your level of faith/belief (الرضا) Pleasure (الصبر) Patience (الفرح) Joy (الشكر) Gratitude 3 P a g e

The least (at least minimum) would be to have patience o Less than patience means to complain & argue o This negates faith so the least level of your faith is your patience Next best would be to be pleased with whatever is happening Even better than that would be to be grateful with everything The best & highest level is to be happy and joyous! o This is more than being content with something You cannot suddenly produce the feeling of joy you need to live like that it is an indicator of your magnitude of Allah It is a natural feeling People are happy in Ramadan because of different reasons! o Some people are happy because of more food, less cooking at home, social gatherings, etc o Some people might be excited for late night shopping, Ramadan tents, etc We need to put ourselves under a microscope and find out what makes us happy & excited about Ramadan Why are people not happy (during Ramadan)? What will make people happy in Ramadan? 4 P a g e

TYPES OF JOY [الفرح] IN THE QURAN الفرح المذموم Dispraised Joy Surah Al-Qasas #76 (story of Qarun) إ ن للا ل ت ف ر ح ل ي ح ب ال ف ر ح ي ن "Do not exult. Indeed, Allah does not like the exultant Allah gave him a lot of power & money - the people around him advised him not to be happy and rejoice because Allah does not love those who rejoice What type of happiness & rejoice is dispraised? o Don t be happy and rejoicing with the worldly things O Allah! Don t make the Duniya my main concern don t feel happy & sad because of the Duniya don t give it much importance o If you feel happy & sad because of the Duniya it shows that the Duniya is in your heart! o If your concern is the Duniya and you are happy with the Duniya then the Aakhirah will not make you happy although that is the real happiness اللهم ل تجعل الدنيا أكبر همنا و ل مبلغ علمنا O Allah let not worldly affairs be our principal concern, or the ultimate limit of our knowledge, [At-Tirmidhi Book 5, Hadith 21] 5 P a g e

So when they forgot that by which they had been reminded, We opened to them the doors of every [good] thing until, when they rejoiced in that which they were given, We seized them suddenly, and they were [then] in despair. People whom Allah is guiding but they are being misguided with the Duniya Instead of taking heed and utilizing the blessings in the life for their own benefit in the Hereafter, they were only rejoicing So Allah opened for them more the doors of the Duniya Allah will give him everything of the Duniya because he is not being reminded with what Allah is trying to guide him with Happiness of the Duniya can occupy you from the real things Surah Yunus #58 الفرح المحمود Praised Joy ق ل ب ف ض ل للا و ب ر ح م ت ه ف ب ذ ل ك ف ل ي ف ر ح وا ه و خ ي ر م م ا ي ج م ع ون Say, "In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy - in that let them rejoice; it is better than what they accumulate." Say O Muhammad صلى للا عليه و سلم to the people be happy with the blessing of Allah and His mercy! These are the only 2 things worthy of your happiness and excitement Special mercy from Allah is to give you so much worship to bring you close to Him What are the favors of Allah in the month of Ramadan? What are the special mercies of Allah in Ramadan? o Automatically your heart will feel happy! It s better than what you earn of the wealth of the Hereafter 6 P a g e

WHAT IS THE SOURCE FOR THE PRAISED JOY? What is the source of the blessings/favors & mercy from Allah? (that will produce the joy & excitement) Surah Yunus #57 ي ا أ ي ه ا الن اس ق د ج اء ت ك م م و ع ظ ة م ن ر ب ك م و ش ف اء ل م ا ف ي الص د ور و ه د ى و ر ح م ة ل ل م ؤ م ن ين O mankind, there has to come to you instruction from your Lord and healing for what is in the breasts and guidance and mercy for the believers. Quran is the source of your joy and admonition o It s a guidance o It is a cure for the hearts o It s a mercy o But for whom? Only for the believers! It s a divine source! You need to see your heart attach it to the Quran Ramadan is the month of the Quran Ramadan is the time of exam! You need to prepare for Ramadan from before The Salaf (earlier righteous generations) used to prepare for Ramadan 6 months before it came, and made dua that Allah would prolong their lives to reach Ramadan Then after Ramadan, they would make dua that may Allah accept their Ramadan and their worship 7 P a g e

REASONS TO MAKE YOU HAPPY IN RAMADAN Surah Al-Baqarah #183 ي ا أ ي ه ا ال ذ ين آم ن وا ك ت ب ع ل ي ك م الص ي ام ك م ا ك ت ب ع ل ى ال ذ ين م ن ق ب ل ك م ل ع ل ك م ت ت ق ون O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous Allah is calling the people who believe that itself is a source of Joy if you listen attentively and really Allah considers you from among them o It s good that it is obligatory to fast for 29 or 30 days o This is the right amount of days to reform you Another thing to make you happy = that you attain taqwa! o You will adopt a good & strong character and eliminate the bad behavior from your lifestyle Ramadan is like a school of Taqwa you want to graduate as a Muttaqeen! (guarding their hearts from the anger of Allah) Why Taqwa? o You don t know if you have attained taqwa in the previous Ramadans o That s why it is more exciting every year rely on Allah to more & better Hadith: ف ل ير ف ث ج ن ة الص ي ام ش ات م ه و ل ي ج ه ل و إ ن ام ر ؤ ف ل ي ق ل إ ن ي ص ائم أ و ق ات ل ه (ج هنة ( shield Fasting is a (نفس ا لمارة بالسوء) from your evil soul Your self is controlling you the other 11 months, but in this one month, you are not eating & drinking, as if you are suppressing it, making it low profile But you still feel hungry, so you feed your soul the spiritual food you go to the Quran, you do more worship & good deeds Even eating & drinking is for the sake of Allah to worship Allah Control your tongue while you are fasting no vain talk, no backbiting, no shouting 8 P a g e

If someone is trying to insult you, probe you to say bad or reply; you talk about YOURSELF! You say I AM FASTING You don t point out to the other person that you are fasting When you fast, fast your heart from doing bad! That s the best fast! Control your tongue! Control your heart! o From bad feelings Don t plan to do personal things in Ramadan Plan all your things from before so that you focus on Ramadan 100% o Plan your food menu o Plan your Eid dresses Hadith: صلى للا عليه وسلم" :من لم يدع قول الزور والعمل به فليس ل ل حاجة في إن يدع طعامه وشرابه" If you cannot stop or control your tongue & heart, Allah is not in need of you to abstain from food & drinks This is similar to the previous Hadith about controlling your tongue from unkind words/speech Fasting does not only mean to abstain from food & drinks 9 P a g e

WHAT ARE THE CHANGES IN RAMADAN FOR YOU? Fasting is like an exam So Allah prepares the environment for you those who are fasting In order that they focus on their worship and come closer to Allah There are changes in the Universe Hadith: كان رسول للا ي ب ش ر أصحابه بقدوم رمضان يقول : قد جاءكم شهر رمضان شهر مبارك كتب للا عليكم صيامه فيه تفتح أبواب الجنة وتغلق فيه أبواب الجحيم وتغل فيه الشياطين فيه ليل ة خي ر من ألف شهر من ح ر م خيرها فقد ح ر م The gates of Paradise will be open as though to welcome the fasting person o It has affect on the people o 8 gates of Paradise The gates of Hell will be closed o 7 gates of Hell These opportunities never come except for in Ramadan so it definitely has some effect The Shayateen will be chained o Less evil in the world during this month o The shayateen give the ideas to do evil/sin o So you can easily detect your soul that tells you to do bad In this month, there is one night that is better than a 1000 months o This is Laylatul Qadr Night of Decree o This automatically makes you happy o All of Ramadan, you need to work hard to attain this night The one who is deprived of this night is really deprived because this one night is equal to 1000 months of worship to Allah 10 P a g e

This Hadith is very similar to the previous one (just little difference) The Shayateen are chained The gates of Hell are closed The gates of Paradise are opened And a Caller calls O Doer of good! Come forward and O Doer of Evil stop Allah frees people from the Hell Fire every night Every night (time of Maghrib), Allah relieves people from Hell Fire o Imagine this happens every night! o So you have a chance every night of Ramadan If you do sin after that, Allah will change the situation so that you don t sin right away, or He will allow you to repent straight away By knowing all of this automatically you feel happy You are so small but look at how much Allah does for you So many changes in the universe only for your ease & comfort 11 P a g e

WHAT ARE THE OTHER VIRTUES OF RAMADAN THAT WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY? Ramadan is the month of the Quran The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion Quran descended in 2 ways o Around the 24 th of Ramadan, it came as a whole to the lowest Heaven o Then during the month of Ramadan, Jibreel عليه السالم brought the messages of the Quran (in the form of verses at specific situations) Do everything with the Quran in this month! o Listen to the Quran o Read the Quran o Study the Quran Allah connected the heavens and the earth in the month of Ramadan with the Quran o Of course, you feel happy with the month of the Ramadan 12 P a g e

Ramadan is the month of Repentance There are 3 hadith that look similar, with the same reward but different beginnings There are 2 conditions mentioned in this Hadith: o Faith (with intention in the heart) o Expectation for result/reward There is a pre-dawn meal to eat before Fajr o You make the intention to have Suhoor (pre-dawn meal) in your heart o There is no intention by words o You can either make one intention at the start of Ramadan to wake up and eat Suhoor every morning before keeping your fast o Or, you have one intention every morning o For women, when they miss a few days in Ramadan, they need to renew their intention when they are fasting again You need to expect the reward from Allah I FEEL HAPPY BECAUSE THIS IS THE MONTH OF FORGIVENESS & REPENTANCE If you fulfill these 2 conditions, what will Allah give you? o Allah will expiate your past sins o Cleanse you of your sins we all need cleaning Don t let anything distract you in the month of Ramadan This as though this is your last Ramadan Don t let your focus go away! 13 P a g e

The one who establishes the night prayer According to the Hadith, the prayer for the woman is better at home Check your heart before you go to the Masjid are you going to meet everyone? Are you going because everyone is going? Or are you going for the 2 conditions mentioned in the Hadith You are fighting your desire to eat & drink during the day, so at night, control your desires (to socialize, etc) at night Prophet Muhammad صلى للا عليه و سلم did not forbid the women to go to the Masjid, but he said that the prayer of the woman is better at home o Imagine, you get more reward by following the Sunnah o You have your kids, you have your maids, make a group in your own home o Don t say that your recitation is not good! That means you are going for the recitation of the Imam o At least at home, you are comfortable, no pushing no shoving o You need to be extra careful about your heart in the Masjid there s more challenge o Ladies fight in the Masjid the lights / the AC o Allah appreciates even little that you do even if you read only Surah Ikhlas, for Qiyaam, Allah will accept it o You cannot feel proud in your heart you cannot forcefully cry you cannot say in your heart why she brought her kids.) Worship is for Allah not for your desires Allah will reward your Quality not Quantity Recite even little bit but with pondering o Even Surah Ikhlaas is good who said you have to recite long surahs in Qiyaam most important is your heart to be present and alert while in prayer Qiyaam is to be prayed after Isha till before Fajr Those who go to the Masjid you need to finish with the Imam o It s better that you follow the Imam o Those who pray with the Imam complete, it s as if they prayed the whole night o Encourage the men in your house because its obligatory for them o Don t leave the Masjid till the Imam has not completed 14 P a g e

The one who establishes the night of Decree. o The nights of the odd fasts o But you try and pray Qiyaam all the 10 nights because you never know, the dates could have been incorrect for the month o It s better to pray during the last 10 nights of Ramadan Check your intention you are praying with faith o For the sake of Allah o With the intention Along with the expectation of getting the reward Even if a woman is not praying during that time, you can get the reward by being submissive to the Decree of Allah o Don t feel angry or upset o Be patient and feel happy o Allah gave you an excuse because Allah knows the best for you o Don t think of it is as a big problem o You can do so many other good deeds o So don t think you will miss anything o Make lots of Dua! Dua will be accepted Feel happy because you have 3 opportunities for repentance! 15 P a g e

What makes you happy for Ramadan? Man came to Prophet Muhammad He asked: o If I say the Shahadah o If I pray 5 times a day o If I give the obligatory charity (Zakah) o If I fast Ramadan and establish the night prayers What group will I be titled in? Prophet Muhammad صلى للا عليه وسلم replied: you will be among the Truthful ones and the Martyrs The Truthful ones are right after the Prophets and Messengers You just need truthfulness in your heart o Your heart & tongue should be the same o Allah will see your heart and that has value You don t get the reward or something unless you don t think about it! o People are different in their rewards even if their actions are the same o Because of the knowledge o A person who has this knowledge will get more reward than the one who only does the actions without the knowledge of the reward! 16 P a g e

Every fasting person has a guaranteed acceptable invocation The fasting person s invocation at the time of breaking the fast will not be rejected As soon as you hear the Adhaan break your fast o That is submission o Iftar time = break your fast with fresh dates o Suhoor time = have dry dates Even for the types of food follow the Sunnah to submit to Allah o Allah knows what is the best in nutrition for you Gather your thoughts and your heart at that time to make dua Don t waste that precious time in talking to people, mingling, discussing and planning the day or what to do after Iftar o Utilize the blessed time wisely o Be happy for this opportunity from Allah بالشفاعة أفرح

Quran + Fast = month of Ramadan Your Fasting and Your Quran will intercede for you on the Day of Judgment o They will be your lawyers on that day o Everything will be tangible on that day Your fast will speak: My Lord, I stopped him from eating & drinking in the morning so allow me to intercede for him Your Quran will speak: My Lord, I stopped him from sleeping in the night (reciting in prayer or reading), allow me to intercede for this servant Allah will allow them to intercede for the servant o Intercession of the morning o Intercession of the night بالشفاعة أفرح Intercession in Ramadan a reason for Happiness Hadith:

This is Hadith Qudsi it will make you very happy for Ramadan Every deed of a human is for him (pray, read Quran, charity, etc.) except for fating o Unique reward for fasting o Fasting is only for Allah o Every other deed has a calculated reward of 10 to 700 times (reward mentioned) The reward for fasting is not mentioned at all! It s as if the reward is a surprise Fasting is for Allah and Allah will reward it what does it mean? o When you fast, only Allah knows who is really fasting and who is not! o On the outside, you may see everyone is fasting o Fasting has to be sincere! o Sincerity is difficult to determine when you are fasting o In other worship, it s easy to hope for praise from someone else but fasting you cannot do for anyone else o Shirk can come in other worship except fasting o No one fasts for a grave! o You can sacrifice for other people or things which is shirk but it is evident so one can know that the sacrifice was shirk and not for the sake of Allah As for fasting, it is only recorded as the actions of the limbs o Angels do not know the actions of your heart o Behind the scenes only Allah knows! [اخالص] Your sincerity [توكل] Your reliance Only Allah knows! In the day of Judgment, there is a bridge called Qantara to settle the scores between people o If you are unjust to anyone, you will have to give from your bank of good deeds to settle with them o Your reward for fasting will not be given to settle the scores with people because fasting is only for Allah o It will be saved for you only Prophet Muhammad swore by Allah, the smell from the mouth of the fasting person is sweeter(more beloved) to Allah than the smell of musk o Although it s something that people don t appreciate, its something that Allah appreciates o The smell comes from the stomach not from the teeth The Fasting person has 2 joys: o In the time of iftaar, he has that joy Because of what was discussed earlier The reward 19 P a g e

Forgiveness of the sins Acceptance of dua Allah has mercy on you Allah gave you a favor In addition to all the food & the drinks because now its allowed to eat & drink This shows submission! Ramadan is an opportunity to magnify Allah o When he will meet his Lord When you will really see the favors, rewards, mercy from Allah with your own eyes You will meet Allah with joy & happiness In life you cannot see the rewards Your happiness in life is by knowing Allah & trusting Him In the Hereafter, you will see the reward with your eyes that is the real happiness Welcome the month of Ramadan with Joy 20 P a g e

WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THOSE THAT ARE NOT HAPPY WITH RAMADAN? Your concern will be to prepare yourself to meet Allah Not ready / not prepared to meet Allah 21 P a g e

They are pleased and content with the Duniya Happiness and satisfaction is connected to what you have in the Duniya Test yourself when you have something or see something in Duniya do you think this is it and the best or you think about the Hereafter (which is better and everlasting) Test yourself: o If you miss some worship today how do you feel? o You feel regret and sad then your heart is alive and your happiness is not attached to the Duniya o If you feel that the work for the aakhirah can be done tomorrow - that shows that you are very much attached to the Duniya!!! It is not a good sign! o If you missed some opportunity of the Duniya how do you feel? o Maybe you missed some promotion, some deal, something then you feel ok with it and you will get it later that is a good sign! o If you feel very sad and upset when you missed something in life then it means your heart, your joy & happiness is attached to the Duniya that is not good! Feeling content with the Duniya This is connected to the first 2 points The aakhirah will not be of concern to this person For example: you are scared of someone being jealous of you, taking your money away from you.but you don t fear your religion or your good deeds being taken away from you although your faith is more valuable than anything else This person feels relaxed and at ease with more accumulation of wealth and worldly desires And these people are heedless about the signs of Allah Everything around you are signs from Allah In the Quran, in the universe. Allah brings the signs in front of them, but they choose to ignore The verses in the Quran are signs The Hadith are signs pushing you to do good and get closer to Allah You need to look at situations and signs of Allah with happiness Aspire to be close to Allah Even the sunrise & the sunset are signs from Allah o What are they signs of? o Sunrise = birth o At its peak = youth o Sunset = death Think about everything that reminds you of the Hereafter Your sleep is even a sign! 22 P a g e
