The Lenten Luncheon was a big success. We had about 40 people-- the most ever! Several said the message from Rev. Roland was the best they'd heard! Thanks, ladies, for setting up the drinks, chips, and cookies! And thanks to Nancy Delaney for the cookies!! Prayer Group will meet April 18 at 10 a.m. at the church. Priscilla Group will meet at 6:15 April 25 in the Fellowship Hall. Betty Dungan and Sheila Sparks are the hostesses. They will provide a light supper--finger foods and punch. All women are invited! Join us!! MAY 16--OUR END-OF-YEAR CELEBRATION! It will probably be at the church this year. Tickets and more information will be available soon. Please save that date!! We always have a good time. ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*LOAF^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ LOAF will meet on May 4, for our last get together until September. Laurie Thurston and Pat Rash are hostesses. We look forward to seeing you all at this pot luck luncheon!! Had a great visit with Katie, the Development Coordinator for the Family Abuse Center. I inquired as to the critical needs of the center. She indicated to me that they have an average of 50 abuse victims at the center on a daily basis. I did learn that the Center can accept non-perishable food items. The Center is not allowed to participate in the Caritas program to purchase food so if we want to include food items in our contributions I know that would be appreciated. You can go online and see the list but I have determined the most needed items that we can provide for the Center are powdered laundry detergent, Windex, Lysol, SOS Pads, multi-purpose cleaner, vinegar, Clorox wipes, bathroom tissue, paper towels, trash bags (13 gallon, 33 gallon and 39 gallon sizes). They also need old used cell phones. The phones will be used only for 911 calls. I hope we can all participate in helping the Family Abuse Center. Thanks for your participation Linda Ferguson

Minister s Insights and Inspiration Our Steering Board met this past Tuesday evening, April 11, 2017 and made three major decisions. They approved a Ministerial Search and Call Team of seven persons to begin the search for a full time Senior Minister. Members of the Team and their serving capacity are Thad Barker, Moderator-Elect, Co-Chair; Phil Roach, Moderator, Co-Chair; Rick Cross, Child Development Center Group Leader; Valetha Ermoian, Secretary for the Team; Charles Holley, Trustee; Jennifer Scott, Youth Leader and Jim Young, Newer Member. The next step is for the Team to meet with Fred Banda, the Search and Call Advisor for the Trinity-Brazos Area, for an orientation session. They approved formulating a plan to raise the additional funds needed to call a full time Senior Minister. Our 2017 General Program Budget of $303,974 included $50,080 in Non-Pledged Income. This Non-Pledged figure is based on anticipated income of $25,777 from persons who have given consistently in the past without pledging and an additional $24,303 to be raised during the year. This unfunded amount relates directly to the budgeted amount for a full time Senior Minister. The Board approved formulating a plan to raise these funds by paying off our current indebtedness of $115,030 which would free up about $2,210 a month, $26,520 a year, to provide the additional funding needed for a full time Senior Minister. Phil Roach, Thad Barker, Linda Ferguson and I are charged with formulating this plan for presentation to the Board. The third decision was to request a General Church Consultation from the Board of Church Extension of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Disciples Church Extension Fund in Indianapolis, Indiana. This Consultation is designed to help congregations assess their current situation and plan for the future. The Consultation is done with no cost to the congregation. A General Consultation serves as an opportunity for congregational leadership to share its ministry hopes and dreams and its understanding of God s calling in the congregation s history. It also helps identify the financial capacity of the congregation along with evaluating church facilities for current and future ministry. The persons involved in the Consultation are representative leaders of the congregation, including those with responsibility for property, finances, and ministry, and a Disciples Church Extension advisor. I will be in contact with Richard Morse, one of the Disciple Consultants, to set up our Consultation to be held as soon as possible. You have a vital role in helping these things happen. Pray that God will guide all of the persons in leadership in these efforts. Read the information that will be forth coming about all that is being done. Ask questions if you need a better understanding of what is happening. Complete and return the Membership Information survey that was sent so we will have the most accurate, up to date information about our congregation. Be in worship and participate in other church activities so that Lakewood will continue to be a strong, vibrant family of God. May God bless us as we move forward doing his work. Richard
