David, in his continued wanderings, applied to the well-to-do farmer, Nabal, for some public assistance. The appeal was suitably timed, courteously worded, and based upon a weighty consideration - they were starving! Nabal was a fellow Israelite, of the house of Caleb (25:3), surely their brother would consider seriously their present need. Upon presenting David s request, the young men were rebuked, Who is David? (25:10). Nabal knew him well enough to know that he was the son of Jesse. He also knew a little about David s present situation, for he accused David of being an insolent, rebellious, runaway slave boy (25:10)! Nabal s retort was filled with the language of a four year old. Note in verse 11,...my...my... my...my...i...i... The mark of a selfish, immature, childish individual is his constant preoccupation with self. The response of David s young messengers was commendable. They could have become righteously indignant. Yet, the men left peaceably and returned to David with Nabal s response - get lost! Instead of exercising grace, David was moved by the spirit of revenge. No man stands a moment longer than divine grace upholds him. The eminent saint is not the one who has learned to walk alone, but he who most feels his need of leaning harder upon the everlasting arms of his Lord. The irony of this matter is the great patience and grace David has exercised in his relationship with Saul, a man bent on murder, and now how quickly David was to pass the death sentence on the selfish Nabal.

Beal Update January 2015 About six weeks ago, Cassia was getting ready to make her piano audition CD for the colleges where she planned on applying. Just a few days before she was scheduled to play, her right arm began to hurt. What was then a localized pain in her elbow very quickly spread to her wrist, shoulder and all the muscles in her arm. We tried our massage therapist in L viv but after several treatments she experienced no relief. Our doctor in the USA told us she needed nerve conduction studies right away or she would possibly be at risk for permanent nerve damage. On December 13, Cassia and I found ourselves on a plane headed for America, and Jessie and Alexandria found themselves alone in Ukraine not the way we had hoped to spend our holidays! Just a few days after our arrival in Rochester, Cassia saw a neurologist and praise God, no nerve damage. She then saw our family doctor and was sent for x-rays and physical therapy. Cassia has been diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome," a malady found most commonly in musicians. We are so thankful for all that the Lord has provided for her: a wonderful chiropractor, great physical therapists and even time at a local YMCA. Of course we were in hopes that this would be a quick fix but unfortunately, this is going to be a long recovery. It s difficult to understand, but we have seen God s hand working in so many ways that it s impossible to doubt He has allowed this to accomplish His will in her life, and also our family s. We have been staying with my very gracious sister and brother-in-law but out of the blue, the Lord has provided an apartment for us. It came so suddenly, I was undecided whether or not to move on it. (I m not one to do things hastily unless I know it s the Lord!) I decided to call the company that handles our storage unit to see about getting a few things out to furnish the apartment if necessary. Amazingly, the man that previously owned the company had died! When I talked with his widow she told me I needed to have everything moved by January 22 and preferably this week! So apparently, the Lord wants us to move now! Please pray for Cassia and I, we need a truck and movers on short notice. (And warmer weather wouldn t hurt either!) As for ministry, you ve probably seen in the news that Russia has not withdrawn their troops from Ukraine and continues to send support to the so called separatists. (A better word would be mercenaries hired by the Russian government.) As much as we grieve for the overall situation and the many families in Ukraine that have lost their husbands and sons, how evident it has become that during trials, people turn to God. Over the course of the past two months, we have been inundated with appeals for the Bible story book, Good and Evil. Usually, we only receive this volume of requests during the summer, when the team is putting out tracts by the thousands that promote Good and Evil. Most of these requests have come in via our website, and very interestingly, they are predominantly from central and eastern Ukraine; L viv is in the far west, hence our ministry primarily reaches the western side of Ukraine. The correspondence course is also signing up well over the average number of students, 13 in just two weeks and I m sure those numbers are already out of date. This is nothing short of amazing, praise the Lord! We now have 50 Ukrainians that have completed all 20 lessons and graduated from the correspondence course! We thank you so much for your faithful financial support and for your prayers, especially during times like these. Please keep our family in prayer as we are away from each other. Please pray for Cassia s healing and God s direction in her life and our family s. May the Lord bless your new year, and may this be the year He comes for us! Your Missionaries in Ukraine, Jessie, Teresa Cassia and Alexandria
