Invocations of Ansari of Herat Adapted for dedication to Sant Kirpal Singh

-1- In the name of Kirpal, most Gracious, most Merciful Who is the bestower of all bounties, O Wise One, Who is beyond our comprehension, O Omnipotent One Who has no equal in Power and Greatness, Who is without a second: O Merciful One Who guides stray souls to the right Path, You are truly the Son of God.

-2- Give Purity to my mind, Aspiration to my heart, Light to my eyes. Out of Your Grace and Bounty give me that Which You know is best. O Master, out of Your Grace Give Faith and Light to my heart, And with the medicine of Your Light and Sound Cure the ills of my life.

-3- I know not what to ask of You. You are the knower of all; Give what You know is best. O Master, may my brain reel with thoughts of You, May my heart thrill with the mysteries of Your Grace, May my tongue move only to utter Your Praise.

-4- I live only to do Your Will; My lips move only in praise of You. O Master, whoever becomes aware of You, Casts out all else other than You. O Master, give me that right discrimination That the lure of the world may cheat me no more.

-5- O Master, give me Understanding That I stray not from the Path. Give me Light to avoid pitfalls. O Master, keep watch over me That I stray not. Keep me on the path of righteousness That I escape from the pangs of repentance. O Master, judge me not by my actions. Out of Your Mercy, save me, And make my humble efforts fruitful.

-6- O Master, give me a heart Free from the flames of desire. Give me a mind Free from the waves of egoism. O Master, give me eyes Which see nothing but Your Glory. Give me a mind That finds delight in Your Service. Give me a soul Drunk in the wine of Your Love.

-7- O Master, to find You is my desire, But to comprehend You is beyond my strength. Remembering You is solace to my sorrowing heart; Thoughts of You are my constant companions. I call upon You night and day. The flame of Your Love glows In the darkness of my night. O Master, everyone desires to behold You. I desire that You may cast a glance at me.

-8- O Master, prayer at Your gate Is a mere formality: You know what Your slave desires. You know all my good and evil. Nothing is hidden from You. You know what is the best medicine To cure the pain and to rescue the fallen.

-9- O Master, other men are afraid of You But I I am afraid of myself. From You flows good alone, From me flows evil. Others fear what tomorrow may bring; I am afraid of what happened yesterday. O Master, if You hold me responsible for my sins I will cling to You for Your Grace. I with my sin am an insignificant atom. Your Grace is resplendent as the sun.

-10- O Master, Please listen to my cry, For You alone can redeem me. O Master, intoxicate me with the wine of Your Love. Place the chains of Your slavery on my feet; Make me empty of all but Your Love, And in it destroy me and bring me back to life. The hunger You have awakened Culminates in fulfillment.

-11- Please grant me a vision of Your beautiful form. The spark You have kindled, make it everlasting. I think of no other, And in Your Love care for none else. None has a place in my heart but You. My heart has become Your abode; It has no place for another.

-12- O Master, You cherish the helpless, And I am helpless. Apply Your balm to my bleeding heart, For You are the Divine Physician. O Master, I, a beggar, ask of You More than what a thousand kings may ask of You. Each one has something he needs to ask of You; I have come to ask You to give me Yourself.

-13- If words can establish a claim, I claim a crown. But if deeds are wanted, I am as helpless as the ant. Urged by desire, I wandered In the streets of good and evil. I gained nothing except feeding the fire of desire. As long as in me remains the breath of life, Help me, for You alone can hear my prayer.

-14- On this Path, be one With a heart full of compassion. Engage not in vain doing; Make not your home in the street of lust and desire. If you would become a pilgrim on the path of Love, The first condition is that you become As humble as dust and ashes.

-15- Know that when you learn to lose your self You will reach the Beloved. There is no other secret to be revealed, And more than this is not known to me. Be humble and cultivate silence. If you have received, rejoice, And fill yourself with ecstasy. And if not, continue the demand.

-16- What is worship? To realize reality. What is the sacred law? To do no evil. What is reality? Selflessness. The heart inquired of the soul, What is the beginning of this business? What its end, and what its fruit? The soul answered: The beginning of it is the annihilation of self, Its end faithfulness, And its fruit immortality.

-17- The heart asked, what is annihilation? What is faithfulness? What is immortality? The soul answered: Freedom from self is annihilation. Faithfulness is fulfillment of love. Immortality is the union of immortal with mortal. In this path the eye must cease to see And the ear to hear, Save unto Him and about Him. Be as dust on His path; Even the kings of this earth Make the dust of His Feet The balm of their eyes.

May your soul be happy; journey joyfully. (Rumi) Kirpalct@yahoo.com HOME: http://kirpalsingh.org/index.html
