Sermon Outline Tough Choices Who Will You Serve part 2 A Defining Moment Mark 8:27-33 (NLT), Jesus and his disciples left Galilee and went up to the villages near Caesarea Philippi. As they were walking along, he asked them, Who do people say I am? Well, they replied, some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say you are one of the other prophets. Then he asked them, But who do you say I am? Peter replied, You are the Messiah, the Christ. But Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him. Then Jesus began to tell them that the Son of Man must suffer many terrible things and be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but three days later he would rise from the dead. As he talked about this openly with his disciples, Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. Jesus turned around and looked at his disciples, then reprimanded Peter. Get away from me, Satan! he said. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God s. " We are all sinners Isaiah 53:6 (NLT), All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all. 1 John 1:8 (NCV), If we say we have no sin, we are fooling ourselves, and the truth is not in us. Romans 3:23 (NLT), For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God s glorious standard. Our sin separates us from our God; in fact, the penalty for sin is spiritual death or separation from God for all eternity.
Sermon Outline Romans 6:23 (NLT), For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Ephesians 2:1-3 (NCV), In the past you were spiritually dead because of your sins and the things you did against God. Yes, in the past you lived the way the world lives, following the ruler of the evil powers that are above the earth. That same spirit is now working in those who refuse to obey God. In the past all of us lived like them, trying to please our sinful selves and doing all the things our bodies and minds wanted. We should have suffered God s anger because we were sinful by nature. We were the same as all other people. But God, in His awesome love for you and me, sent Jesus, His Son, to be the sacrificial lamb; to take the hit for us and to pay the price for our sin and because of his death burial and resurrection; you and I can have new life. John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Romans 5:8 (NLT), But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Ephesians 2:4-5 (NLT), But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. It is only by God s grace that you have been saved! 1 Timothy 2:5 (NLT), For, there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity the man Christ Jesus. It begins by believing/having faith in what He has already done for us. Hebrews 11:6 (NLT), And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT), God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. Acts 4:12 (NCV), Jesus is the only One who can save people. No one else in the world is able to save us.
Sermon Outline Then it continues as we admit that we are sinners in need of a Savior and we repent of our sin and accept Him into our hearts as the Lord and Savior of our lives. Acts 2:37-38 (NLT), Peter s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, Brothers, what should we do? Peter replied, Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Romans 6:1-5(NIV), What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. Once we have completely surrendered our life to Him, then we can begin the process of allowing the transforming power of His Holy Spirit to change us from the inside out because anyone who truly comes in contact with the resurrected Christ is never the same again. 2 Corinthians 5:21, God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
