Contact OLPH Director of Music Ministry, Debbie Fagnano, for further information. Kate Balestra s Road to Confirmation Looking back God strategically placed people in my life that had no idea they were guiding me on this very long road to Confirmation. I attended Catholic school and was raising my two boys Catholic, but never felt the need to do more. In my mind I was already a part of the Church and in my heart, I was Catholic. The boys and I were attending Mass regularly and the more I went, the more I felt Father Kyle speaking directly to me. When my oldest son made his First Communion, he asked me why I didn t take the Eucharist. Honestly, I was embarrassed to answer this 8 year old boy. What was holding me back from participating in the beautiful sacrament with my family? Who would be a better example to my children than me? It wasn t until Danae Burt, my sponsor, about 2 years before my baptism really began to push me in my spiritual life; along with Father Kyle periodically asking me about it (who can tell their boss/priest NO?). Through the RCIA program, I truly enjoyed showing off my knowledge of the Catholic Church and Holy Sacraments to my life long Catholic friends who didn t know as much as me. I don t think I really expected that much to change after my Baptism, but it definitely has. The moment I stood up from the Baptismal font, I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I am a better testament of faith to others who are struggling, I m stronger. I have a whole posse of Saints, angels, and Church family interceding for me. I will forever be grateful to those who have made an impact on my Catholic faith; the Devillier s, Carpenter s, and Burt family, and the entire OLPH Church community. Rosary: The Joyful Mysteries On Mondays and Saturdays, and on Sundays during the Advent and Christmas seasons, we meditate on the Joyful mysteries of the Rosary. These mysteries call to mind moments of great joy in the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary, up to, including and after the birth of Christ Jesus. Saint Pope John Paul II, in his Apostolic Letter The Rosary of the Virgin Mary says this: The Joyful Mysteries are marked by the joy radiating from the event of the Incarnation. To mediate upon the joyful mysteries is to enter into the ultimate causes and the deepest meaning of Christian joy. It is to focus on the realism of the mystery of the saving Passion. Mary leads us to discover the secret of Christian joy, reminding us that Christianity is, first and foremost, evangelization, good news, which has at its heart and its whole content the person of Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, the one Savior of the world. The five Joyful Mysteries are: The Annunciation, where the angel Gabriel tells the Virgin Mary that she has been chosen to bring the Son of God into the world. (See Luke 1:26-38) The Visitation, which recalls Mary s visit to Elizabeth and John the Baptist leaping in his mother s womb. (See Luke 1:39-45) The Nativity, recounting the events surrounding the birth of Christ Jesus. (See Luke 2:1-14) The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, where Simeon, as told to him by the Holy Spirit, was able to hold the Messiah in his arms and blessed the Holy Family. (See Luke 2:22-38) And The Finding of Jesus in the Temple, when twelve year old Jesus, after being lost by his family for three days, was found in the temple teaching. (See Luke 2:41-52) A Minute in the Church: Life in Christ, Gus Lloyd. Voca ons Crucifix The Voca ons Crucifix is a special crucifix that travels from family to family to inspire prayer for voca ons. It is to intercede for voca ons and encourage families to discuss priestly or other religious voca ons. The Crucifix, prayer brochure, and sign up sheets are on the voca ons table in the library. Thank you for your commitment to praying for voca ons.
