THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME! SPIRITUAL READING & REFLECTION You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 5:6 THE SIGHT WE ALL NEED Magnificat, October 2015 O my Lord, when I think of the many ways you suffered and how you deserved none of these sufferings, I don t know what to say about myself, nor do I know where my common sense was when I didn t want to suffer, nor where I am when I excuse myself. You already know, my Good, that if I have some good it is a gift from no one else s hands but yours. Now, Lord, what costs you more, to give much or little? If it is true that I have not merited this good, neither have I merited the favors you have granted me. Is it possible that I have wanted anyone to feel good about a thing as bad as I after so many evil things have been said about you who are the Good above all goods? Don t allow, don t allow, my God nor would I ever want you to allow that there be anything in your servant that is displeasing in your eyes. Observe, Lord, that mine are blind and satisfied with very little. Give me light and grant that I may truly desire to be abhorred by all since I have so often failed you who have loved me so faithfully. SAINT TERESA OF AVILA Saint Teresa of Avila (+1582), Doctor of the Church, reformed the Carmelite Order. THAT IN ALL THINGS GOD MAY BE GLORIFIED! PAGE 2

JOHN THE BAPTIST Parish Picnic This Sunday October 25 th Harmon Field 1:00-4:00 pm CIRCLE OF MARY SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7 TH PILGRIMAGE OF MERCY THE TOUR OF THE MAJOR RELICS OF ST. MARIA GORETTI From September to November of this year, the major relics of St. Maria Goretti will make a pilgrimage to the United States in preparation for the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy that begins December 8, 2015. While St. Maria Goretti is universally known as the Patroness of Purity, her greatest virtue was her unyielding forgiveness of her attacker even in the midst of horrendous physical suffering, a forgiveness that would completely convert him and set him on a path to personal holiness. The visit of the major relics of St. Maria Goretti is an effort on the part of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and Treasures of the Church (www.treasuresofthechurch.com) to prepare and catechize the U.S. for this great celebration of mercy in the life of the Church. ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH! O N AT N E W SI O N FA IFTA I THH FFO ROM ART IM OCTOBER: A MONTH OF ROSARIES AND MISSIONS FAITH FORMATION CLASSES Parents and youth of Faith Formation, the rosary and missions are two primary characteristics of the month of October. I invite you to reflect on the following words of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI and Saint Pope John Paul 11: Meet Wednesday evenings 6pm to 7:15pm. Classes go down to the church at 7:00pm for prayer, adoration and benediction. Parents are invited to join the youth for prayer, adoration and benediction. Parents are responsible for picking up their children directly from the catechist following benediction in front of the church. and it is as if every year, on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Virgin invites us to rediscover the beauty of this prayer (Rosary), so simple and so deep. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI "The Rosary is a contemplative and Christo-centric prayer, inseparable from the Holy Scriptures. It is the prayer of the Christian advancing in his pilgrimage of faith, in the following of Jesus, preceded by Mary". Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI Parents, we all are invited every day and especially in the month of October, to pray this prayer in our families, in our communities, and in our parishes to pray for the Pope s intentions, the mission of the Church and for world peace. Homework folders: will go home with students each week. Parents are asked to review their folders with their children as well as read and discuss what they are learning in class. Parents are also asked to seek out their children s catechist and introduce themselves! Note: Mixed Sacramental prep classes to be announced no classes at this time for those children who are past second grade and are seeking preparation for the sacraments of Penance and First Holy Communion. Sunday, Nov. 8 Sunday, Nov. 22 R C I A Youth Breakfast w/ Fr. Arnsparger Youth Group at 5:30pm Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults meets on Monday evenings 7:00 to 8:30pm in the Parish Center. The Rite of Acceptance will be on Sunday, November 29th at the 11:00am Mass. The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God. WOMEN S GROUP Our Women's Group's fall session has concluded and we extend our deepest appreciation to Patricia Skadow for her always enlightening and enriching commentary, throughout the series, on Bishop Robert Barron's presentation. We had a wonderful number of ladies attending each week and welcome you to join us when next we gather. A warm thank to all who helped to assist Patricia in the preparation of snacks and the cleaning up each week. Our ultimate path to holiness is full of untold blessing and until we meet again, may God bless you and your families! UT IN OMNIBUS GLORIFICETUR DEUS! --CCC, no.27 ATTENTION ALL MEN OF THE PARISH The next meeting of Brothers in Christ will be on Thursday, November 5 at 7:00pm in the Church.
