Craig Dear Parishioners, Today is the beginning of Advent. Advent has a two-fold character: as a season to prepare for Christmas when Christ s first coming to us is remembered; as a season when that remembrance directs our mind and heart to await Christ s second coming at the end of time. Advent thus is a period of devout and joyful expectation. I hope we all can make this season special with prayer time and reflection. Saturday is a Holy Day of Obligation. It is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. We will have Mass Friday night at 5:30 and Mass Saturday at 8:00 & 10:00am. The Immaculate Conception is our Patron Feast day of the United States. The Immaculate Conception is when Mary was preserved from original sin from the very first instant of her conception in the womb of her mother, St. Anne. This feast day is not found in Sacred Scripture. It has been passed onto us through Tradition. Our Catechism says the following, To become the mother of the Savior, Mary was enriched by God with gifts appropriate to such a role. The angel Gabriel at the moment of the annunciation salutes her as full of grace. Through the centuries the Church has become ever more aware that Mary, full of grace through God, was redeemed from the moment of her conception. (#490). I hope you all are able to come to church to celebrate this great feast day. Saturday night we will have a Night of Prayer to pray for all life. Every parish is asked to pray until midnight. You are welcome to come between 8-midnight. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed. Next Sunday is Confirmation. Let us pray for all those preparing to receive this special sacrament. A reminder that our Advent Parish Penance services are December 10 at 1:30pm & December 11 at 7:00pm. Have a great week. Fr Craig Come sing Christmas with the Children's Choir! Sign up permission slips are at the Celebrate and Serve table near the kitchen, or at the office or at stleo.net/childrens-choir. 02 l St. Leo Catholic Church

The Remembrance Tree Beginning this weekend and continuing throughout the Advent and the Christmas Season, there will be a Remembrance Tree in the back of the Church. The St. Leo Bereavement Committee invites you to bring an ornament to place on the tree in honor of a loved one who has died. You may pick up the ornament in January. 28th Annual National Night of Prayer for Life, Saturday, Dec. 8th 8:00pm - Midnight It was on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception that Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas and the unborn, first appeared to St. Juan Diego. The National Night of Prayer for Life honors Our Blessed Mother and prays through Her intercession for the establishment of a Culture of Life, protection for the Church from persecution, and asks our Lord to Revive Our Land. St. Leo will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Adoration from 8:00pm to Midnight, Saturday the 8th in the main church. Host couples will be present for each hour of the vigil. Pick an hour or just stop in for a few minutes. You may want to come especially during the Hour of Unity, from 11:00pm - 12 Midnight, when we will be united in prayer with churches across our country s 4 time zones for the protection of all life from conception to natural death. The National Night of Prayer for Life is a wonderful way to start your Advent season and help you and your family put the holidays in the proper perspective. A set of mysteries of the Rosary will be prayed at the beginning of each hour followed by silent prayer. Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School "St. Pius X / St. Leo School is a diverse community forming students in the Catholic faith to excel in academics and service to others." Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, I pray everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and has had a very blessed start to the Advent season and our celebration of our savior, Jesus Christ s birth. December is a very busy month at St. Pius X / St. Leo school and we hope to communicate with you all about all the happenings and on-goings here in your school community. We are excited to share that the 5th grade students will have two presentations for the Wax Museum this year. The Wax Museum is six-week project where the students spend weeks researching in the library, typing their speeches in the technology lab and memorizing their speeches about their historical figures, which include scientists, mathematicians and religious figures. The final project includes dressing as their chosen historical figures and presenting their speeches to the visitors. Visitors will use quarters to activate each presentation. Last year, the 5th graders raised over a thousand dollars in quarters and they broke the old record for donations brought in! We hope to continue our tradition of breaking records this year especially in the spirit of Christmas and having two opportunities to give back to our parish communities. We are inviting all community members to come and see our talented students creations and to please bring quarters to "activate" these talented scientists! For the first presentation, the 5th grade will present its Wax Museum on Friday morning, December 14 starting at 8:30 am in the St. Pius X parish center. For the money brought in on December 14th, the 5th graders will donate the quarters to school adopt a family program. The schedule for the wax museum at St. Pius X is as follows: 8:30-9:30 a.m. - 5C Homeroom; 9:30-10:30 a.m. - 5D Homeroom; 10:30-11:30 a.m. - 5A Homeroom This year, we are so excited that for the first time, we are having the 5th graders also present their Wax Museum at St. Leo s on Sunday, December 16th at 9 am and 11 am in the St. Leo s parish center. The students have been working so hard and it s a wonderful tradition that helps raise money for some very deserving causes. Please bring quarters to "activate" the scientists. The 5th grade students continue to work very hard to prepare for these two days. We look forward to seeing you at the 5th grade Wax Museum presentations at both of our wonderful parishes! Lastly, right before Thanksgiving Break, our wonderful Student Council students, under the wonderful leadership of 5th grade teacher, Miss Mary McGuire, helped organize a large food drive for the Stephen Center. The people at the Stephen Center were so grateful and wanted to share with everyone in our school community how helpful our donations were and how impressed they were by how much our school community was able to raise. The food drive ended with our Thanksgiving masses at school as well as a very fun and raucous Pep Rally at the end of the day with many alumni joining us in playing volleyball against our 8th grade girls as well as playing music for our entire school. It was a very fun event and thank you to everyone involved! Cory Sepich, Principal St. Pius X/St. Leo School If you have children in grades Pre-Kindergarten (3-year-old and 4-year-old programs) to Grade 8 that you are thinking about sending to our school for this school year, please call our school office at 402-551-6667 to set up a time to come and visit, and, then enroll your child/ ren when you decide to come to our school. We are blessed that our grades are filling up, but would love for you and your family to join our school family this year! Director of Building and Grounds Needed! The theme for 2019 is immigration. The Social Justice Team will present programs and information that increase understanding of immigration. Each first Sunday we will provide a short written message in the bulletin which explains some aspects of immigration and invite you to programs and gatherings that further that knowledge. In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman Every year I am amazed how the retail stores start putting out the Christmas stuff so early. The stuff for Christmas comes out before back to school rush is over. Thanksgiving has become another day of shopping day. What is wrong with this picture? Have we totally lost our perspective on what is important? We try to fill our lives with STUFF, instead of sharing ourselves with each other. Our gospel today in the first week of Advent, should be a wakeup call to all of us. Jesus said to his disciples: There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on earth nations will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Before we put the lights up, before we buy any gift, before we bake anything, we need to stop the insanity and prepare our hearts and minds to allow our Lord into our busy lives. If we believe Jesus Christ is our Savior and Lord, if we want God to take charge of our life, then we need to take the next four weeks to prepare our soul for the greatest gift of all. Pray for His grace to strengthen your heart and mind, so that you may be blameless and holy at the coming of our Lord Jesus. Let us keep in perspective what this wonderful season of Advent is all about. Let us anticipate the coming of greatest gift of all, and stand erect with our heads raised, as we anticipate God s gift of love, and redemption.
