-2-2018 Rosary Rallies Come join the 7th Annual Rosary Rallies for Religious Freedom at the Christ the King Marian Garden, on Tuesdays beginning June 19 through October 30, 7:00-8:00 pm before Labor Day and 6:30-7:30 pm after Labor Day. This year s theme is Serving Others in God s Love. In order to do this, we must be free to practice our religion and live out our faith in all we do. The purpose of the Rosary Rallies is to combat the challenges to our Religious Freedom, with the most powerful weapon, the Holy Rosary. Each Rally will begin with a brief meditation from the 2018 Rosary Rally Booklet, compiled by Mary s Rosary Assemblers of CTK, followed by praying the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries. Rosaries and prayer guides will be available and a volunteer will lead the Rosary. Please plan to join us for as many Rallies as your schedule and circumstances permit. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. If possible bring a chair. Dress appropriately for the weather. For inclement weather, the Rosary will be prayed in the Christ the King Chapel. For questions, more information, or to receive a free 2018 Rosary Rally booklet, contact Julie Allington, 715-862-2523 or julieallington@gmail.com. Pastor s Blog John the Baptist stirred the thoughts and prayers of the people of his time. Many believed that he, and not Jesus, was the Messiah. John was a very colorful person who proclaimed a baptism of repentance, but also promised eternal damnation to those who did not follow the path of the ancient prophets. The Feast of the Nativity of John the Baptist takes precedence over the 12 th Sunday of Ordinary Time. This is quite unique during the Church s liturgical year. Generally, when a saint dies, that day becomes the saint s feast day. Only three persons in the Church s liturgical calendar have feast days that are both for the birth and death of that person Jesus, Mary and John the Baptist. St. Luke s Gospel tells of Mary s visit to her relative Elizabeth who is pregnant with John. When you read the Gospel, it tells how John leaped in the womb in the presence of Mary. Many believe this was John s baptism. We hear too of Zachariah and the choice of John s name. It is projected that John s parents were older and likely died before John became an adult. Like many orphans he would have been taken in by the Qumran community who lived in caves near the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea scrolls record their practices. When John first appears as an adult, he dresses and eats unlike normal people. His message is to shake people out of their complacency. He tells them to reform their lives or face damnation. None of this goes well with King Herod who was enthralled by John yet feared John as one who could turn the people against him. Salome s dance enticed Herod so much that he granted her wish for the head of John the Baptist. Mormons say that John the Baptist appeared on May 15, 1829 to Joseph Smith at a secluded place near Harmon, PA. John the Baptist, they say, put his hands on Smith s head and conferred on him the priesthood of Aaron. Remember that Mormons believe that there were native horses in North America. It was Europeans who brought horses. And the Book of Mormon mentions that there was steel in what is now the United States centuries before there was steel in the USA. I mention what the Mormons believe to show the impact of St. John the Baptist outside of Christianity. John is truly an unforgettable person. -Fr. Steve
