To humiliate someone means to injure their self-respect or to make them feel ashamed. Humility, on the other hand, is simply regarding ourselves honestly, and it is necessary for a happy marriage! When we lack humility, we tend to cut ourselves down or puff ourselves up, or both. We become defensive, argumentative and unforgiving. In this weekend s readings, both John and Jesus show great humility. They know exactly who they are, and therefore they can accomplish their missions. Put humility to work in your mission, too! Ask forgiveness Recognize that you and your spouse both have valuable opinions Ask God for an honest view of your own strengths and weaknesses Focus on your spouse s strengths, entrusting his/ her weaknesses to the Holy Spirit To grow together in this virtue, attend the Valentine s Date Night on February 9th.
