July 5, 2018 Volume 5: Issue 13 Greetings! Making SHIFTs Toward Fruitful Ministry I'm very excited to let our congregation know that Orrville Trinity UMC will serve as the host site for a series of Saturday ministry training events put on by the East Ohio Conference during the coming year. Dr. Phil Maynard Dr. Phil Maynard, Director of the Coaching Network, Church Strategist for Path 1 (UMC), and Director of Excellence in Ministry Coaching, will be here in Ohio to lead six sessions. Phil says that there are 5 main SHIFTs that congregations need to make in order to be more effective. What are the 5 SHIFTs? From Fellowship to Hospitality From Worship as an Event to Worship as a Lifestyle From Membership to Discipleship From "Serve Us" to Service From "Survival Mentality" to Generosity Each of the above shifts in focus has the potential to challenge some of our long-held assumptions about what effective ministry looks like. These shifts also have the potential to breathe new life and hope into our congregations. Our paid Staff Team and Ministry Support Team have already been reading Phil's book, "SHIFT: Helping Congregations Back into the Game of Effective Ministry" and are planning to engage the process further by attending these sessions. However, we are inviting anyone from the congregation who would like to learn more about this to attend. If you have interest, please contact me, Pastor David, at trinitypastordavid@gmail.com or speak to me in person. Dates for the training sessions are (all Saturdays): August 4 September 29 November 10

January 12 March 9 May 18 Grace and Peace, Pastor David Rittgers Noteworthy News Welcome to Our Staff! Trinity UMC is pleased to announce the addition of John Turner and Drew and Jennifer Wolfe to our staff. John will be serving as the Kindling Worship Leader and Media/Tech. Director. Drew and Jennifer will be our new Youth and Family Coordinators. John has been a member of the praise band that plays during the Kindling service and has been regularly attending Kindling with his wife Elizabeth and three children Jack, Ellie and new baby Lucy. John Turner Jennifer and Drew are members of Trinity and serve in the choir during the 9:15 Traditional service, as well as perform in the praise band during Kindling. Drew & Jennifer Wolfe We are very happy to have John, Drew and Jennifer on board and are excited

to see how they use their gifts in their new positions. Pastor David on Vacation Pastor David will be on vacation with his family July 16-31. Please contact the church office for any urgent pastoral care needs. Opportunity to Serve After thoughtful consideration, Sue Corfman has decided to step down as leader of the Radical Hospitality team. Her last day will be August 19 th. Sue says, "I truly enjoy serving and talking with all of you. Our vision for Radical Hospitality is coming to life, but new leadership can take it to the next level. The timing seems right. Rich and I will be traveling at the end of August to celebrate 25 years of marriage, after which foot surgery will reduce my mobility for several months. I would be happy to lend support after that to a new leader." Leading this team is rewarding and there are several wonderful rotating volunteers, so you don't have to do it all. If you have a passion for welcoming people and feel a nudge in this direction, please contact Sue at (330) 683-4393 or Pastor David at trinitypastordavid@gmail.com about this opportunity to serve. Orrville Salvation Army Back-to-School Program Orrville Salvation Army is seeking assistance from the community to help with funds to purchase school supplies.
