Have a Happy Death We re going to die anyway so why not die a Happy Death. No one wants to rush it but we all know that we have to die first Before we can go to Heaven, And isn t that what we were created for? We say that all s well that ends well. And if we die in the State of Grace we will meet God face to face. Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. 1 Cor 2:9 St. Paul also told us that Death is swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is thy victory? Where, O death, is thy sting? 1 Cor 15:55 However, we need to prepare ourselves for that great day NOW. If we do not accept it now, it would be much harder to accept at the hour of our death especially if we have to deal with pain and suffering. We have to be strong in our Faith and pray fervently; assuring ourselves that God values us so much that He died for us so that we might live with Him for ever. Our Lord never promised us that this life would be easy. It certainly wasn t easy for Him, but He spoke of our sharing Eternal Life with Him if we have faith and if we keep His Commandments. As Authentic Catholics, our first requirement is to Pray the Rosary. Our Blessed Mother promised that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death. When we pray the Rosary we ask repeatedly our Blessed Mother to pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen! We can also gain courage in reading the lives of the Saints and in how they accepted death. And most important, do not hesitate to call for a Catholic Priest for the Anointing of the Sick, or the Extreme Unction. That can make all the difference for one s Eternity! Some prayers to bring us strength at the time we need it most! Prayers for Those in Their Last Agony 1. O most merciful Jesus, Lover of souls, I pray Thee, by the agony of Thy most Sacred Heart, and by the sorrows of Thy Immaculate Mother, cleanse in Thine Own Blood the sinners of the whole world who are now in their agony and to die this day. 2. Everlasting Father, for the sake of the love which Thou didst bear to St. Joseph, whom Thou didst chose above all to occupy Thy place on earth, Have mercy on us and on those who are dying. Everlasting Son of God, for the sake of Thy love towards St. Joseph, who didst protect Thee so faithfully on earth, have mercy on us all and on those who are dying. Everlasting Divine Spirit, for the sake of Thy love toward St. Joseph, who so carefully protected Mary, Thy most holy and beloved spouse, have mercy on us and those who are dying.

Prayers for A Happy Death 1. O my Lord and Savior, support me in my last hour by the strong arms of Thy sacraments and the fragrance of thy consolations. Let Thy absolving words be said over me, and the holy oil sign and seal me; and let Thine own body be my food and Thy blood my sprinkling; and let Thy Mother Mary come to me, and my angel whisper peace to me, and Thy glorious saints and my own dear patrons smile on me, that in and through them all, I may die as I desire to live, in Thy Church, in Thy faith, and in Thy love. 2. O Dearest Lady, sweet Mother mine, watch the hour when my departing soul shall lose its hold on all earthly things, and stand unveiled in the presence of its Creator. Show thyself my tender Mother then, and offer to the Eternal Father the precious blood of thy Son Jesus for my poor soul, that it may, thus purified, by pleasing in His sight. Plead for thy poor child at the moment of his / her departure from this world, and say to the heavenly Father: Receive him / her this day into Thy kingdom! 3. Through your help I hope to die a happy death. O my Mother I beg you, by the love you bear my God, to help me at all times, but especially at the last moment of my life. Do not leave me, I beseech you, until you see me safe in Heaven, blessing you and singing your mercies for all eternity. Amen, so I hope, so may it be. 4. Grant unto us, Lord Jesus, ever to follow the example of Thy holy Family, that in the hour of our death Thy glorious Virgin Mother together with blessed Joseph may come to meet us and we may be worthily received by Thee into everlasting dwellings: Who livest and reignest world without end. Lord Jesus, pour into us the spirit of Thy love, that in the hour of our death we may be worthy to vanquish the enemy and attain unto the heavenly crown: Who livest and reignest, world without end. Grant, we beseech Thee, O Lord, that in the hour of our death we may be refreshed by Thy holy Sacraments and delivered from all guilt, and so deserve to be received with joy into the arms of Thy mercy. Through Christ our Lord. Three very beautiful prayers very useful to a dying person. There once was a Pope in Rome who was surrounded by many sins. The Lord God struck him with a fatal illness. When he saw that he was dying, he summoned Cardinals, Bishops and learned persons and said to them: My dear friends! What comfort can you give me now that I must die, and when I deserve eternal damnation for my sins? No one answered him. One of them, a pious curate named John, said: Father, why do you doubt the mercy of God? The Pope replied: What comfort can you give me now that I must die and fear that I ll be damned for my sins? John replied: I ll read three prayers over you; I hope you ll be comforted and that you ll obtain mercy from God. The Pope was unable to say more. The curate and all those present knelt and said an Our Father, then the following prayers: 1. Lord Jesus Christ! Thou Son of God and Son of the Virgin Mary, God and Man, thou who in fear sweated blood for us on the Mount of Olives in order to bring peace, and to offer Thy most holy Death to God Thy Heavenly Father for the salvation of this dying person If it be,

however, that by his sins he merits eternal damnation, then may it be deflected from him. This, O Eternal Father through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Dear Son, who liveth and reigneth in union with the Holy Spirit now and forever. 2. Lord Jesus Christ! Thou who meekly died on the trunk of the Cross for us, submitting Thy Will completely to Thy Heavenly Father in order to bring peace and to offer Thy most Holy Death to Thy Heavenly Father in order to free (this person) and to hide from him what he has earned with his sins; grant this O Eternal Father! Through Our Lord Jesus Christ Thy Son who liveth and reigneth with Thee in union with the Holy Spirit now and forever. 3. Lord Jesus Christ! Thou who remained silent to speak through the mouths of the Prophets: I have drawn Thee to me through Eternal Love, which Love drew Thee from Heaven into the body of The Virgin, which Love drew Thee from the body of The Virgin into the valley of this needful world, which Love kept Thee 33 years in this world, and as a sign of great Love, Thou hast given Thy Holy Body as True Food and Thy Holy Blood as True Drink, as a sign of Great Love, Thou hast consented to be a prisoner and to be led from one judge to another and as a sign of Great Love, Thou hast consented to be condemned to death, and hast consented to die and to be buried and to be truly risen, and appeared to Thy Holy Mother, and to all the Holy Apostles, and as a sign of Great Love, Thou hast Ascended, under Thy own Strength and Power, and sitteth at the Right Hand of God Thy Heavenly Father, and Thou hast sent Thy Holy Spirit into the hearts of Thy Apostles and the hearts of all who hope and believe in Thee. Through Thy Sign of Eternal Love, open Heaven today and take this dying person and all his sins into the realm of Thy Heavenly Father, that he may reign with Thee now and forever, Meanwhile the Pope died. The curate persevered to the third hour, then the Pope appeared to him in body and comforting him; his countenance as brilliant as the sun, his clothes as white as snow, and he said: My dear brother! Whereas I was supposed to be a child of damnation I ve become a child of happiness. As you recited the first prayer many of my sins fell from me as rain from Heaven, and as you recited the second prayer, I was purified as a goldsmith purifies gold in a hot fire. I was still further purified as you recited the third prayer. Then I saw Heaven open and The Lord Jesus standing on the right hand of God the Father Who said to me: Come, all thy sins are forgiven thee, you ll be and remain in the realm of My Father forever. Amen! With these words my soul separated from my body and the Angels of God led it to Eternal Joy. As the Curate heard this he said: O Holy Father, I can t tell these things to anyone, for they won t believe me. Then the Pope said: Truly I tell thee, the Angel of God stands with me and has written the prayers in letters of gold for the consolement of all sinners. If a person had committed all the sins in the world, but that the Three Prayers shall have been read (over him) at his end (death), all his sins will be forgiven him, even though his soul was supposed to suffer until the Last Judgment, it will be redeemed (freed). The person who hears them read, he won t die an unhappy death, also in whose house they will be read. Therefore take these prayers and carry them into St. Peter s Basilica and lay them in the Chapel named the Assumption of Mary, for certain consolation. The person who will be near death, who reads them or hears them read gains 400 years indulgence for the days he was supposed to suffer in Purgatory because of his guilt. Also who reads this Prayer or hears it read, the hour of his death shall be revealed to him. Amen!

Another Prayer for a Departing Soul Depart, O Christian soul, out of this sinful world, in the name of God, the Father Almighty, who created thee; in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, who suffered and died for thee; in the name of the Holy Ghost, who sanctified thee; in the name of the glorious and blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God; in the name of blessed Joseph, the renowned spouse of the same Virgin, in the name of the Angels and Archangels, Thrones and Dominations, Cherubim and Seraphim; in the name of the Patriarchs and Prophets, of the holy Apostles and Evangelists, of the Holy Martyrs and Confessors, of the Holy Monks and Hermits, of the Holy Virgins and of all the Saints of God; let peace come to thee this day, and let thy abode be in holy Sion; Through the same Christ our Lord. O Merciful God, O loving God, the same God, who, according to the multitude of Thy mercies, forgivest the sins of such as repent, and graciously remittest the guilt of their past offences, look with favor on thy servant N. and grant him / her full forgiveness of all sins, who, with his / her whole heart, begs it of Thee. Renew O most loving Father, whatsoever hath been corrupted by human frailty, by the deceits of the devil; make him / her a true member of the Church, and let him / her share in the fruits of Thy redemption. Have compassion, O Lord, on his / her sighs and tears, and admit him / her whose only hope is but in Thee, to the sacrament of Thy reconciliation; through Christ our Lord. I commend thee, dear brother / sister to the Almighty God, and consign thee to His mercy, whose creature thou art; that when thou shalt have paid the debt of all mankind by death, thou mayest return to thy Maker, who formed thee from the dust of the earth. When, therefore, thy soul shall depart from thy body, may the resplendent multitude of angels meet thee; may the court of the apostles receive thee; may the triumphant army of glorious martyrs welcome thee; may the splendid company of confessors clad in their white robes encompass thee; may the choir of joyful virgins receive thee; and mayest thou meet with a blessed repose in the bosom of the patriarchs. May Jesus Christ appear to thee with a mild and cheerful countenance, and give thee a place among those who are to stand before Him forever. Mayest thou be a stranger to all that are punished in darkness, chastised with flames and condemned to torments. May the most wicked enemy with all his evil spirits, be forced to give way; may he tremble at thy approach, encircled by Angels, and with confusion, fly away into the vast chaos of eternal night. Let God arise and His enemies be dispersed, and let them that hate Him, fly before His face; let them vanish like smoke; and as wax that melts before the fire, so let sinners perish in the sight of God; but may the just rejoice and be happy in His presence. May then, all the legions of hell be filled with confusion and shame; and may none of the monsters of Satan dare to stop thee in thy way. May Christ deliver thee from torments, Who was crucified for thee; may He deliver thee from eternal death, who vouchsafed to die for thee. May Christ Jesus, the Son of the living God, place thee in His garden of Paradise; and may He, the true Shepherd, acknowledge thee for one of His flock. May He absolve thee from all thy sins, and place thee at His right hand, in the midst of His elect. Mayest thou see thy Redeemer face to face and, standing always in His presence, behold the beatific vision of that Eternal Truth, and mayest thou be placed among the companies of the blessed and enjoy the sweetness of the contemplation of thy God forever. Receive, O Lord, thy servant into the place of salvation which he hopes to obtain through Thy mercy.

Deliver, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant from all danger of hell and from all pain and tribulation. Deliver, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant, as Thou didst deliver Enoch and Elias from the common death of the world. Deliver, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant, as Thou didst deliver Noe from the flood. Deliver, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant as Thou didst deliver Abraham from the Chaldeans. Deliver, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant, as Thou didst deliver Job from his afflictions. Deliver, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant, as Thou didst deliver Isaac from the sacrifice and from the hand of his father. Deliver, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant as Thou didst deliver Lot from Sodom and the flames of fire. Deliver, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant as Thou didst deliver Moses from the hands of Pharaoh, the King of the Egyptians. Deliver, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant as Thou didst deliver Daniel from the lions' den. Deliver, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant as Thou didst deliver the three children from the fiery furnace and from the power of the wicked king. Deliver, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant as Thou didst deliver Susanna from her false accusers. Deliver, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant as Thou didst deliver David from the hands of King Saul and Goliath. Deliver, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant as Thou didst deliver Peter and Paul from prison. Let Us Pray We commend to Thee, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant, N. and we beseech Thee, O Lord Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, that as in Thy love for him / her. Thou becamest man, so now Thou wouldst not refuse to admit him / her into the number of the patriarchs. Remember, O Lord, that he / she is Thy creature, not made by strange gods but by Thee, the only true and living God; for there is no other but Thee, and none that can equal Thy works. Let his / her soul find comfort in Thy sight, and remember not his / her former sins, nor any of those excesses into which he has fallen, through the violence of passion and corruption of nature. For although he / she has sinned, yet he / she still retains a true faith in Thee, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; he / she has had a zeal for Thy honor, and faithfully adored Thee, his / her God, and the Creator of all things. Remember not, O Lord, the sins of ignorance in his / her youth; but according to Thy tender mercy, be mindful of him / her in Thy eternal glory. Let the heavens be opened to him / her, and the Angels rejoice with him / her. May St. Michael, the Archangel, the chief of the heavenly host, conduct him / her; may blessed Peter the Apostle, to whom God gave the keys of the kingdom of heaven, receive him / her; may St. Paul the Apostle and chosen vessel of election, assist him / her; may St. John the beloved Disciple, to whom were revealed the secrets, intercede for him / her; may all the holy Apostles, to whom was given the power of binding and loosing, pray for him / her; may all the chosen Saints and Elect of God, who in this world suffered torments for the name of Christ, intercede for him / her; so that, being delivered from the corruptible body, he may be admitted into the kingdom of heaven; through the grace and merits of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, with Thee, and the Holy Ghost, liveth and reigneth world without end.
