Page 739 PRAYERS FOR THIS WEEK On this first Sunday of Lent, we pray for the Anglican Communion and for all who profess the Christian faith; for all church leaders, priests, pastors and lay ministers, let us use this time wisely for selfexamination, prayers and penance to bring us closer to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We pray for the Chaplaincy of St. Helena s, with an average congregation of around 50-60 in the working Greek Cypriot town of Larnaca; for the Venerable Dr John Holdsworth and his wife Sue, the Rev d Geoff Graham and his wife Deborah, and all who worship there. Rejoicing, with them, in the establishment and growth of the weekly knit and natter group which provides a soft 1

place to explore faith and build relationships; for the hope to strengthen and develop their pastoral outreach through a renewed geographical strategy of care for church members, swallows, migrant workers, and those encountered though hospital visiting and those recently bereaved. In our Parish of Paphos we pray for our Associate Priest Andrew, our two newly appointed priests; the Rev d Andrew Burtt as Senior Priest designate, and the Rev d Canon Anthony Stidolph as House-for-Duty Associate Priest; our Readers Ann and Trev, our Trainee Reader Ray and the supporting members of the worship team. Please remember in your prayers Canon Peter & Lynne Hutchinson on the death, last Thursday, of their son Matthew, also the rest of Matthew s family and friends. May he rest in peace after 7+ years of illness. We thank God, with Peter and Lynne for Matthew s life. For further prayers during the week please go to our Diocesan Prayer Guide Booklet and also the Anglican Communion website: www.anglicancommunion.org/acp WHAT S GOING ON TODAY & THIS WEEK Sunday 14th February - Lent 1 8.15am 9.30am Communion by Extension (Reader Trev Sait) - St. Luke s 6.00pm Tuesday 16th February Morning Worship (Reader Ann Bailey) - St. Stephen s 10.30am Lent Course on the Beatitudes - St. Stephen s 7.00pm Shrove Tuesday Pancakes and Beetle Drive - see page 9 Wednesday 17th February 9.00am 10.00am Church Council Meeting - St. Stephen s Thursday 18th February 10.00am Ecumenical Bible Study. THIS PARISH OF OURS Duty Wardens for this week Ayia Kyriaki - 8.15 a.m. - Jacquie Hammond + week Ayia Kyriaki - 6.00 p.m. - Jacquie Hammond St. Stephen s - Bob Cross St. Luke s - David Gisborne Gift Aid can boost Church finances: If you pay UK income or capital gains tax please help the Church by using the blue Gift Aid envelopes for your Open Plate donations. This will add approximately 25% to any donations you make, as the Church can reclaim the basic rate of tax from your donations. If you are or intend to donate via the Pledge Giving Scheme, you can complete a one-off Gift Aid declaration. To make a Gift Aid declaration you will need to pay UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in any tax year greater than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your Gift Aid donations in that year, or you will be responsible for any difference. Income tax includes tax credits on UK dividend income. Boosting the Church income in this way will be a very welcome additional contribution to finances. GENERAL NOTICES Please Note: The Anglican Church of Paphos is delighted to announce that the Licensing of Canon Anthony Stidolph, as Associate Priest (House for Duty), will take place at Ayia Kyriaki Church at 6pm on Friday 4th March. Following the Licensing by Bishop Michael Lewis with Archdeacon John Holdsworth, light refreshments will be available. For catering purposes please let your Warden know if you are attending. People who do not drive at night please contact their Warden who will organise transport. Continuation of the 101 Club: It has been decided to continue with the 101 Club for 2016. However it will run for 48 weeks (not 52) from 7th February 2016 until 1st January 2017. The February winners for weeks 1 to 4 inclusive will be announced in the WNS on 6th March (1st Sunday after the end of the month) with weekly prize money of 101, 51 and 21 which is based on a weekly donation of 10 per number. As last year in the random matrix all numbers will be drawn at least once and 43 of the 101 numbers will be drawn twice. Tim Sabben-Clare will again be the Registrar and if you have not already done so, please contact him to register your number (26 653088 or sclare@cytanet.com.cy). He will accept registrations up to 28th February and if you wish to remain anonymous in the winners list please can you indicate this. Bryn Jones will again act as Treasurer so please ensure that both Tim and Bryn know how you will be paying - monthly, quarterly, 6 monthly or annually and PLEASE make sure that when you pay your money you place it in an envelope clearly marked 101 Club for the attention of Bryn Jones, St. Stephen s, together with your name and number - DO NOT put it in the offertory plate or pay it into the Church Office as it will be thought of as a donation and will not necessarily be credited to your name in the 101 list. This money will really help to balance the ACP s books given that we have the one-off payments for the Parish Priest s House (title deeds, property tax, alterations, replacement furniture etc.). Thank you to all those who have agreed to continue contributing and to the new people who have joined. 3

Although we do have the bare minimum of people required we really could do with some more people joining so if you have not done so already, please can you consider it and if you have any questions please contact me: Roger Bailey, 26 622948 or 99 175785. Café Direct: This month's round of sales at AK and St Stephen's resulted in 21 items being sold with a profit to the Church, including change that was not taken, of 20.91.
