THE APPARITIONS OF THE GUARDIAN ANGEL OF PORTUGAL 2016 marks the 100 th anniversary of the Apparitions of the Angel of Peace to the Three Shepherd Children of Fatima THE THIRD APPARITION Lucia is uncertain when the third apparition of the angel occurred, either in late September or in October 1916 is her recollection. Having gone to the south side of the Cabeco a er lunch with their flocks, and being more a entive to the words of the Angel, they immediately knelt down to pray the prayer taught them by the Angel: My God, I believe, I adore, etc Lucia reports: A er we had repeated this prayer I don t know how many times we saw a strange light shining over us. We li ed our heads to see what was happening. The Angel was holding in his le hand a chalice and over it, in the air, was a host from which drops of blood fell into the chalice. The Angel le the chalice suspended in mid-air, knelt near us and told us to repeat three times: O Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, I adore Thee profoundly, and I offer Thee the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which He is offended. And by the infinite merits of His most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg the conversion of poor sinners. A er that he rose and took again in his hand the chalice and the host. The host he gave to me and the contents of the chalice he gave to Jacinta and Francisco, saying at the same time: Eat and drink the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ terribly outraged by the ingratitude of men. Offer reparation for their sakes and console God. Once more he bowed to the ground repeating with us the same prayer thrice: O Most Holy Trinity, etc and disappeared. Overwhelmed by the supernatural atmosphere that enveloped us, we imitated the Angel in everything, kneeling prostrate as he did and repeating the prayers he said. It was in this way that being catechized in prayer, reparative suffering, and the doctrine of the Holy Eucharist, and strengthened by the Bread of Angels, the children of Fatima were prepared for the visitation of the Queen of Portugal, the Immaculate Virgin Mary. The Angel of Portugal at Fátima By Fr. William Wagner, ORC Of Opus Sanctorum Angelorum This little book retells the angel s lessons to the three shepherd children, and how they, following his guidance, grew in a short time to heroic sanctity. Thus, well prepared for the Blessed Virgin s coming at Fatima, they convincingly convey her message to those who have ears to hear. You, too, can enter this angelic school, gain new depths in your spiritual life and so find peace, joy and purpose by conforming your life to God s salvific plan. Available from the Parish Office for a donation of $3.00

Extraordinary Jubilee Holy Year of Mercy December 8, 2015 -- November 20, 2016 In his bull initiating the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis writes of his desire that all the faithful will experience the grace of the Jubilee by making brief pilgrimages to Holy Doors and that the Jubilee Indulgence may reach each one as a genuine experience of God s mercy, which comes to meet each person in the Face of the Father, Who welcomes and forgives, forgetting completely the sin committed. The Holy Father wants Holy Doors to be opened in every local church, at the Cathedral the mother church of the faithful in any particular area and at other churches of special significance designated by the Diocesan Bishop, for the duration of the Jubilee Year. He wants these Holy Doors to become a Door of Mercy through which anyone who enters will experience the love of God, Who consoles, pardons, and instills hope. HOLY DOORS OF MERCY IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF NEW YORK Saint Patrick s Cathedral (New York City) Basilica of Saint Patrick s Old Cathedral (New York City) Saint Frances Cabrini Shrine (Washington Heights) National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Middletown) National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians (Stony Point) All those who enter a Door of Mercy with the proper intention and disposition, and fulfill the conditions ordinarily attached to a plenary indulgence, can obtain the Jubilee Indulgence once daily for either themselves or for the souls of the faithful departed. CONDITIONS FOR GAINING A PLENARY INDULGENCE OF TEMPORAL PUNISHMENT DUE TO SINS ALREADY FORGIVEN Go to Confession within 8 days after performing the indulgenced work Receive Holy Communion Recite the Our Father and Creed Pray for the intentions of the Holy Father Be detached from sin, even venial sin ALL-NIGHT VIGIL The next All-Night Vigil will take place on First Friday, September 2 beginning with the 6:00 p.m. Mass and conclude with the celebration of Holy Mass according to the Tridentine Rite at 5:00 a.m. on First Saturday, September 3. BENEFACTORS NEEDED! Benefactors are needed to help pay for the cleaning and renovations to the Church Hall as well as the Rectory. If interested in helping, please contact Fr. Miara at the Rectory. Your generosity will be much appreciated! The Most Holy Rosary Whatever you ask through the Rosary will be granted. --The Blessed Mother to St. Dominic Join us for the recitation of the Holy Rosary every weekday at 11:55 a.m. and 5:20 p.m. and on Saturday at 12:35 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Our Lady revealed fi een promises to St. Dominic (the Saint to whom the Rosary was first given in the 12 th century) and later to Blessed Alan de la Roche (who reignited devotion to the Rosary in the 15 th century) for those who recite the Holy Rosary. We will print one each week as an inspiration to practice this most powerful devotion! Promise #3 The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin and defeat heresies.. This promise is simply a reminder of how fervent prayer will help us all to grow in holiness by avoiding sin, especially with a prayer as excellent as the Rosary. An increase in holiness necessarily requires a reduction in sin, vice, and doctrinal errors. If only the Modernists could be convinced to pray the Rosary! St. Louis de Monfort states: Since Mary alone crushed all heresies, as we are told by the Church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit (Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary) [True Devotion to Mary, #167] STATUE OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA Next year marks the Centennial of the Apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima. Beginning in October Holy Innocents will have devotions to Our Lady of Fatima on the 13 th of the month from May to October including a candlelight procession. A hand carved statue of Our Lady of Fatima with a crown has been ordered from Fatima, Portugal. If someone would like to donate this statue which will have a permanent place in the church, please contact the rectory for more information. A brass plate listing the name of the donor and their intention (e. g. in memory of ) will be placed at the base of the statue. Envelope System In order to maintain accurate records of your contributions, we are in the process of creating a new database and, thus, we request all parishioners to fill out a Parish Registration Form located in the vestibule and return to the Rectory Office or the Collection Basket as soon as possible. This will enable us to verify your donations should it be necessary for tax purposes. Thank you for your cooperation!

The Shrine to the Unborn Blessed by Cardinal O Connor on December 28, 1993 The Shrine is dedicated in Memory of the Children Who Have Died Unborn We invite you to name your child(ren) and provide the opportunity to have your babyʹs name inscribed in our Book of Lifeʺ. Often children who have died before birth have no grave or headstone, and sometimes not even a name. At The Church of The Holy Innocents, we invite you to name your child(ren) and to have the opportunity to have your baby's name inscribed in our "BOOK OF LIFE". Here, a candle is always lit in their memory. All day long people stop to pray. On the first Monday of every month, our 12:15pm Mass is celebrated in honor of these children and for the comfort of their families. We pray that you will find peace in knowing that your child(ren) will be remembered at the Shrine and honored by all who pray here. We will inscribe the names of babies who have died before and at birth in our Book of Life, and as always, we invite you to visit the Shrine if you are in New York City.
