FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY Dave Ramsey is a Christian finance counselor that you may be heard on the radio or seen on TV. This weekend you will see a preview of a possible new class we would like to offer here at Redeemer that would begin in January. Watch the preview before the service and if you would like to know more, talk to Kris Dicke. While there is a financial investment to take this class, many people have found that by applying some of the principles Dave teaches, they can get out of debt and back on a path of financial peace. We will only start this class if there is enough interest, so please talk to Kris Dicke (250-0467) or Michael Harvey (289-5147) today about this opportunity. FINANCIAL UPDATE - AMAZING! WHAT CAUSES HOLIDAY STRESS? Doing too much: All things in moderation, the saying goes...too many activities, even if they re usually fun activities, can culminate in too much stress, leaving us feeling frazzled rather than fulfilled. Eating, drinking and spending too much: too many parties, too much gift-giving, and indulging in rich foods or alcohol to excess can add to many peoples stress of dealing with consequences (debt, weight gain, embarrassing behavior) that linger long after the season is over. Too much togetherness: While gatherings can be fun, even close-knit families and friends can overdose on togetherness, making it hard to maintain a balance between healthy bonding and alone time. Sometimes, falling into old roles (gossipy Aunt Gertrude or the baby of the family ) can bring more dread than love to these gatherings. Not enough togetherness: Loneliness can be just as much a problem as the world around you seems to be gathering with loved ones, those who rely on absent friends for support may feel deserted. These feelings are particularly pronounced for those whose family or circle of friends has been fractured by recent death or divorce. (Maria Lichtsinn, RN, MPA, CIC, FCN, Parish Nurse) Not done with your Christmas shopping? The SCRIP program can solve that problem. SCRIP is gift cards sold to RCLS at a decreased price. These same gift cards are then purchased by you at card value. The profit is divided by RCLS and Redeemer. Math example: $20.00 Panera card purchased by RCLS for $18.20. That $20.00 card is purchased by you for $20.00. The $1.80 difference is shared by RCLS and Redeemer. How can SCRIP solve your shopping dilemma? Please visit a SCRIP salesperson between services to purchase gift cards (at value price) for a variety of stores that will cover all of your gift-buying needs. A few of the stores included are Bath & Body Works, Best Buy, Cabelas, Gap/Old Navy, JC Penney, Kohls, Menards, Shopko, and Walmart. A sample of restaurants included are Applebees, Outback, Victorias, Starbucks, and numerous fast food and pizza places. Gas cards for Kwik Trip and Super America are available, as well as cards for HyVee and Cub. SCRIP also offers prepaid VISA cards which are accepted anywhere that VISA is accepted. These also make great gifts. SCRIP is sold at Redeemer weekly by Lonnie Strohschein and Lynn Schoppers, and can also be purchased at RCLS. 4 Week of 12-13-2009
