3PK May 4-5, 2013 Timothy I and II Timothy Timothy learned about Jesus SCHEDULE for all sites: First 10 minutes of the service hour: Relationship-building time (kids get to know each other and the volunteers) Don t just supervise; get on the floor and play with the kids. They might want to pretend you re Batman or a unicorn, but that s okay. Meet them at their level. Next 25 minutes: Large group teaching and worship Last 30 minutes: Story review, snack and small groups, activities/crafts If you finish early, have kids engage group games as parents arrive. Check out the end of the activities section to find an idea for this week As kids leave, remind them to use Timothy (the puppet) to tell their parents what they learned in Kids Club today. Today kids are learning they are never too young to follow Jesus or teach others to follow him!

Goal: to equip kids to retell the story Why? Timothy told people about Jesus, even as a kid. Kids in your room can, too! Tip: Show the kids how to use Timothy to retell the story make up silly voices and make it fun! * REVIEW while the kids eat a snack. REVIEW 1. Who was the guy in today s story? (Timothy) 2. When did he start following Jesus? (as a kid) 3. How did he learn about Jesus? (read the Bible, asked Paul about Jesus, told people about Jesus) 4. What are some of your favorite stories in the Bible? (If kids don t know the Bible, they can always say, Timothy! ) 5. Who could you tell your favorite story to? ACTIVITY We re going to make our own Timothy puppets. Then kids can use the puppet to tell Bible stories to others. Remind them that they can use Timothy to share Bible stories with their parents, friends, babysitter, brothers and sisters, or whomever! Timothy, in the Bible, wasn t afraid to tell anybody about what he learned, and they don t have to be either! Give each kid: a paper bag construction paper clothes for them to glue on 2 eye stickers crayons to draw a nose and mouth, or decorate the puppet s clothing *Practice telling the story with Timothy! Then Pray with kids and ask God to help them follow Jesus and learn about him. CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE:

Extra time? Make following fun by playing Follow the Leader. You start leading, but let kids take turns too. Here are some ideas: jump stomp twirl around march swing your arms wave your puppet in the air take baby steps etc.!

1 Timothy started following God as a kid. He shows us we are never too young to follow God or teach others to follow Jesus! Make sure you smile--and smile a lot! Seriously, have fun and the kids will have fun. Be friendly and engage them with lots of smiles. Did we forget to mention to smile?? Presenter: Hi Friends! Welcome to Kid s Club. I'm and I'm really glad you're here today. Before we get started, I want you to meet my friend, HOPS. She s going to remind us of the kind of choices we can make today Kids Club. Video: HOPS 1 Have Fun! (About 1 minute) REVIEW Presenter: (Hold up the Bible for kids to see.) This is God s story. Out of all the stories in the world, this story is the most important. It s God s Rescue plan. Remember how God made the whole world and everything was good? The world was perfect! Give me a smile and a thumbs up! (Let kids respond. Then change your tone.) But THEN.something bad happened. Adam and Eve disobeyed God, and sadness and death came into the world Show me your sad face. (Let kids respond.) This was really sad. But even though Adam and Eve disobeyed God God loved them anyway! And God sent his own son, Jesus, to rescue us from all the wrong things in the world! We talked about how Jesus rescued us by dying on the cross! And then he came back to life and went to Heaven! TIMOTHY HEARD ABOUT JESUS Now, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can follow Jesus and tell other people about him! Today, we re going to learn about a guy who followed Jesus. His name was Timothy. Can you guys say, Timothy? (Let kids say: Timothy.)

(Show picture of Timothy with mom and grandma.) Timothy learned about Jesus from his mom and his grandma when he was young, maybe just a kid! Maybe some of you hear about Jesus from your grandma or mom or dad or babysitter or a friend here at Kids Club. TIMOTHY FOLLOWED JESUS Well, Timothy wanted to start following Jesus right away, even though he wasn t a grown up! We re going to watch a video about Timothy. As we watch, see if he started following Jesus right when his mom and grandma told him about Jesus, when he was not grown up yet! Video: God s Story / Timothy Wow, so did Timothy start following Jesus when he was young? (Let kids say, yes! ) He sure did! And he learned more and more about Jesus. (Hold up the Bible.) He learned about Jesus by reading the Bible. And he asked other people to help him learn how to follow Jesus. Even though he was young, he got to be part of God s Story by learning about Jesus, following Jesus, and telling other people about Jesus! WE CAN FOLLOW JESUS! And guess what? You guys can be part of God s Story, too! You can read the Bible (hold up the Bible) just like Timothy. And everybody point to an adult leader in the room (let kids point). You can ask a leader at Kids Club to help you learn how to follow Jesus, just like Timothy asked Paul to help him. Even though you re a kid, you can tell your family and friends about Jesus. Jesus LOVES it when kids follow him! Now let s pray together and thank Jesus that we can all follow him no matter how little or big we are. Pray together (break into small, repeatable phrases). Pray: Hi God! Thank you that Timothy followed you. Help us to learn about you, follow you, and tell our friends about you! We love you. Aaaaaa-MEN. Now let s worship Jesus by singing together! Music Video: Jesus Loves Me Song: Great Day Dismiss kids to small groups. (Be creative as you dismiss them. Ask them to come give you a high five first, or maybe tiptoe or hop--like Hops--to their groups.)
