MAY 2010 Published Monthly MINI ACOUSTE Metropolis of Boston Federation of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians KEY Official Communication MBFGOCM YEARS OF SERVICE RECOGNITION AWARDS - Last year the Metropolis of Boston Federation of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians instituted a new Years of Service Award for its members. In the first year, more than 125 church musicians were recognized, including 20 individuals with more than 50 years of service, for the dedicated service they have offered to preserve, perpetuate and promote the sacred hymnology of our Holy Orthodox Church. This year s awards will once again be given out in November at the 2010 annual MBFGOCM Conference in Arlington, MA. Please send your complete roster listing all choir members, including organists and directors, showing the total number of years of service for each person, beginning in youth choir (if applicable) through June 2010 to Meri Kassanos by e-mail to merimkassanos@comcast.net. Rachmaninoff Concert - Resounding Success - Almost 200 people, not including the seventyfive singers, gathered together on Sunday, April 11, at the Annunciation Church of Dover, NH to listen to the masterful rendition of Rachmaninoff s All-Night Vigil by the Rachmaninoff Choir under the direction of Dr. Antoni Antolini. Rachmaninoff Choir under the direction of Dr. Antoni Antolini Annunciation Church, Dover, New Hampshire The choir spent a lovely afternoon at the church and was deeply appreciative both of the warm hospitality of the volunteers and the outstanding acoustics of the church. The reception after the concert was also outstanding, combining the efforts of many generous parishioners. Deep gratitude goes to the many volunteers that contributed to this success, to Siroun Braun who chaired the event and the members of the Annunciation choir, to Zoe Polychronopoulos and the Annunciation Outreach group as well to the Council members who assisted. Half of the amount of the proceeds from the concert will be presented to My Friends s Place, who also had a few representatives at the concert. The other half will be used to create a music ministry fund for the church. MBFGOCM Scholarship - The Executive Board of the Metropolis of Boston Federation of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians will again this year be offering the Metropolis of Boston Federation of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians Scholarship to students who are pursuing undergraduate collegiate or post graduate degrees in music or an associated field. Applications are attached to this publication and are available on our Web site. The 2010 deadline for the submission of the application is July 15, 2010. Any questions should be directed to the Scholarship Committee: Manny Mihailides, Chairman, at mannym5@cox.net (401-524-8999), Sophia Argeros at sargeros@comcast.net (781-586-1286) and James Maheras at jgmplm@earthlink.net (603-431-8893). The MBFGOCM Scholarship relies on your donations to raise the funds given to these deserving recipients. Last year the Federation was able to award two scholarships. Without your continued support the scholarship fund will have to be scaled down or discontinued. Please use the attached form below to send in your donation today for this very worthwhile cause!
