Second Sunday of Lent Many icons depicting Jesus transfiguration bear the Greek title Metamorphosis, a technical term also for nature s springtime transformation. Fittingly, this Jubilee of Mercy coincides with Lectionary s Year of Luke, for only Luke specifies Moses and Elijah speaking about Jesus exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem (Luke 9:31). Israel s exodus liberated from slavery; Jesus exodus liberates from sin s living death of selfishness. Pope Francis suggests that Lent s prayer, fasting, and works of charity can transfigure the world, if Christians translate Isaiah s challenge into our daily lived experience of Jesus lifegiving exodus by releasing those bound unjustly, setting free the oppressed, sharing your bread with the hungry, bringing the afflicted and homeless into your house, clothing the naked, not turning your back on your own. If you remove from your midst oppression, and malicious speech...then light shall rise for you in the darkness...you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring whose water never fails (Isaiah 58:9, 10, 11). During this 40-day period each year, the Church unites itself to the mystery of Jesus in the desert. To prepare to celebrate the Easter Mysteries, we devote time during this special season to pray, to perform works of charity, and to deny ourselves by fulfilling obligations more faithfully. Here is a Lenten schedule for this week: *Adoration: Mondays 7pm - 8:30pm *Daily Mass: Tues. - Friday at 8am *Morning Prayer: Mon. - Friday at 8:30am *Reconciliation/Confession:Wed.6:30pm, Sat. 3:30pm *Stations of the Cross: Friday 12Noon & 7pm *Return the Baby Bottles with monetary donations to help Birthright. Life is a precious gift from God. Friday, February 26th, Knights of Columbus will be hosting Lenten Fish Fry Friday s from 5:00:pm to 6:30 pm in the Parish Hall. Followed by Stations of the Cross at 7:00 pm in the church.

In 1972 Pope Paul VI revised several ministries and minor clerical orders. One ministry that was preserved was the ministry of the instituted acolyte. While the term acolyte is at times used when referring to young men and women who assist at the altar (altar servers), the ministry of acolyte is a permanent institution. Because the ministry has its roots in the formation of ordained clergy, the ministry is reserved to men. The instituted acolyte is appointed to assist the deacon and serve the priest in the celebration of the liturgy. He is an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion serving only when sufficient ordinary ministers are not available. Men must be at least 21 years of age, fully initiated and living an exemplary Christian way of life, with no impediments to sacramental reception, (e.g. if married, one must be in valid marital union recognized by the Church). For more information please contact Deacon Ray in the parish office.
