Worship Service September 3, 2017 THE WESTMINSTER CHIMES (Please use this time to prepare for worship.) WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS PRELUDE GATHERING TOGETHER CALL TO WORSHIP: based on Exodus 15:11 Leader: Who among the gods is like you, O LORD? Who is like you! People: You, O God, are majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders! * GATHERING SONG: #485 To God Be the Glory * CONFESSING OUR FAITH: The Heidelberg Catechism Day 17: Questions 44-45 Leader: Why does the Apostles Creed add, he descended to hell? All: To assure me in times of personal crisis and temptation that Christ my Lord, by suffering unspeakable anguish, pain and terror of soul, especially on the cross but also before, has delivered me from the anguish and torment of hell. Leader: How does Christ s resurrection benefit us? All: First, by his resurrection he has overcome death, so that he might make us share in the righteousness he won for us by his death. Second, by his power we too are already now resurrected to a new life. Third, Christ s resurrection is a guarantee of our glorious resurrection. * PRAYER OF CONFESSION: (based on Isaiah 48:11) O God, you declare, I will not surrender my glory to another. You made us to worship you only, because in worshipping you alone we experience and express who we truly are your creation. And yet, we worship and give priority to endless things in place of you: people, pleasure, possessions, status, identity, and so on. We confess our tendency to idolatry. Occupy once again the rightful place of Lord in our life. Lord, hear our prayer (silent confession) CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE: #579 Glory Be to the Father ANTHEM: If We Truly Believe RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS GROWING IN THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Romans 11:33-36 (pew Bible page 161) CHILDREN S MESSAGE SERMON: Perfection Made Public Don Besig Pastor Steve Pastor Steve OFFERING OUR TITHES AND GIFTS: (You are also invited to sign the friendship pad and pass along for others to do the same) OFFERTORY * DOXOLOGY Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. * CONFESSING OUR FAITH: The Apostles Creed (pg. 14 traditional) SHARING IN THE LORD S SUPPER: Song & Preparation: #599 Jesus, Remember Me (sing twice) COMMUNION PASTORAL PRAYER (Prayers of the People) GOING INTO THE WORLD * SENDING SONG: #420 God of Grace and God of Glory BENEDICTION * POSTLUDE Pastor Steve SILENT CONFESSION ASSURANCE OF PARDON * GREETING ONE ANOTHER: Leader: May the peace of Christ be with you.
