D e c e m b e r 2 0 1 8 THE JOURNEY WHAT CHA HOPIN FOR? W hat do YOU hope for? We all hope for many things, don t we? We hope our children do well in school, in basketball, in piano, and with their personal walk with Christ. We hope to get a new job, or get promoted, or get that new contract. We hope to buy our first house; we hope to be healed from a terrible disease; we hope to stop drinking or doing drugs; we hope to get married and have children one day; we hope we can pay the light bill or the rent this month; and of course we all hope to go to Heaven. Without hope we re sunk. Hope gives us the will to continue even during very difficult circumstances. One of the great things about having a personal relationship with Almighty God, is that you always have hope. And I mean ALWAYS! Not only will God comfort us in our troubled times, but He has all the power needed to deliver us from bondages and also bring our dreams to pass. One thing Betty and I say to people who have such struggles in life, yet still won t yield to God and let Him have control is, You are missing out on a great life! The peace and hope we have that the Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which will be to all people. Luke 2:10

POBC NEWSLETTER CONTINUED... One who created the universe actually will listen to us is an amazing reality. Of course that takes faith because we can t see Him face to face. We can t set a 2:15 appointment, walk in and shake hands with the great Counselor. It s actually better than that. Why? Because if we truly have a relationship with Him, we can talk to Him anytime we want. God is not bound by a busy schedule because He s so popular. As humans, we are pretty good at talking to God when a crisis hits, but what about the rest of the time? The good news is that Almighty God is the God of hope at all times; 24/7/365, and is waiting to hear from us. Were you aware that God actually wants to give you the very desires that are in your heart? Psalm 37:4 says, Delight yourself also in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Now that is some seriously Good News. Of course we must remember that God is not the great Santa Claus in the sky. We must understand that there are qualifiers. Our part is to delight ourselves in the Lord THEN He will give us our hearts desires. This means when we truly have a good relationship with Him and walk in His ways, our dreams will come to pass. It also means our motives will be pure because we are first delighting in Him. As we re entering this crazy, busy Christmas season, rather than getting stressed to the max, try leaning on the God of all hope. Don t wait until the New Year to fully commit your life to Christ. Do it now! I guarantee you will be more than satisfied. Let God s peace reign over you rather than allowing the expectations that others place on you to get you bent out of shape. God wants to hear your concerns. You will find hope and answers in Him. The Bible says, Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. (Heb. 10:23) He s telling us to be a solid rock by refusing to allow anything into our minds or spirits that will cause our hope to diminish. Then He hits us with the big one He who promised is faithful. That tells me that this great God who promised me what I need in His Word, is going to come through for me as long as I keep the faith and don t waver. So let s transition into a deeper walk with our God by going from, I m hopin & prayin and make the change to I m Praying & Believing. Watch what a difference it will make. So keep holding as tight as you can to those things you re hoping will come to pass in your life. But now add The God Who s More than Enough to the mix. Add faith to your hope. Stay tight with God on a daily basis. If you don t, well,, you re missing out on a great life. Merry Christmas to you and may God give you the desires of your heart. God gave us Jesus for Christmas, let s give Him ourselves! Pastor Jim

DECEMBER 2018 Your Generosity is the gateway to the grace of God. EVERY CHILD COUNTS! Thank you for changing a child s life. S ometimes the smallest things make the biggest impact. Jesus fed 5,000 + people with just 5 loves and 2 fish. David killed the giant Goliath with one little rock, and the Babe in the manger grew up to defeat Satan, destroy sin, take the keys to death, hell and the grave, and give every human the opportunity for eternal life. Every year we stuff about 110 large Christmas Stockings to give to kids, many who get little if anything for Christmas. It s another way for us to let the kids and their families see in a tangible way that we truly care and love them. There s still time to bring in some items like: Essentials: socks, gloves, beanie/hats, toothbrush & toothpaste, candy. Small Gift Ideas: bouncy balls, card games, nail polish, matchbox cars, hair things army men, bubbles. If time is pressing in on you this holiday season, you can also give a check to POBC designated 180 Christmas Stockings, and we can buy some gifts to stuff the stockings. This isn t just some red cloth sewn together with little toys and beanies. They re stockings that represent our kindness and compassion to kids that some have never known. Thank you for your graciousness and giving! It is not the will of your Father who is in Heaven that one of these little ones should perish. Matthew 18:14

POBC NEWSLETTER P lease RIP CITY YOUTH GRADES 6-12 EVERY WEDNESDAY FROM 6:00PM TO 8:00PM Teenagers today need much more than a temporary escape from the ugliness of the world on Wednesday nights. Rip City Youth is committed to sharing the love of God with the teens; a weekly challenging message; a place to belong and serve. Many youth are restless, insecure, jaded, and desperately searching for meaning to explain all the hurt and suffering they see around them. Jesus is the One in whom the fullness of God is found. Not the countless distractions they re offered outside of the church. Whether they know it or not, teenagers are desperately seeking answers in a world where so many adults and political leaders are acting like children. At POBC, we endeavor to set a godly example before these young people, and give them the hope they need in a crooked world. DECEMBER 2018 M RIP CITY KIDS GRADES 1 ST - 5 TH oving into the Christmas season, it is important that we are constantly teaching, and reminding, our children what the true meaning of Christmas is. It can become so easy for adults and children alike to remain wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of the season. However, this truth remains out of Isaiah; For unto us a child is born; unto us a son is given! Without Jesus, we would have no reason to celebrate. Let s work together to teach our children how to always keep Him first. GOAL... 1) To partner with parents in the teaching and training of children in Biblical principles. 2) To teach children how to live by God s Word and motivvate them to choose the ways of God. 3) To capture the children s imagination and teach in exciting, relevant ways, where the children can understand God s message to them. 4) That God will be real to the children, where they will grow up knowing the Bible is truly God s Word to live by, and not just KIDS SUNDAY TEACHINGS FOR DECEMBER December 2 Moses: Trusting God s Plan December 9 Samson: Never Compromise December 16 David: All Things Are Possible December 23 Christmas Service All Kids Invited to Join December 30 Job: Stay Loyal to God

By now you have gotten what you needed from the Black Friday sales and even Cyber Monday. I pray you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family, and now it s full steam ahead towards Christmas. As of mid October, the pantry had served over 2,750 families this year. During the same time period the pantry served 1,814 children. Many of those families are very similar to yours and mine as they decide how to provide the best Christmas on the very limited income they have. Most all of those children, like yours and mine, will be hoping for a special gift, whether in the quietness of their heart or vocally to whoever will listen. In order to support the families that visit our pantry this Christmas season, we would like you to join with us in providing some of the essential, non-food items these families need. Over the last year, through the help of the Oregon Community Foundation, we have been able to supply families with essential toiletries. Things like bathing soap, toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants and shampoos. We are grateful that the Oregon Soap Company is partnering with us every week to supply bathing soap to all of the individuals who visit our pantry. We are in the process of securing other companies that will supply some of the other essentials. For the month of December, we would like to enlist your support to provide two specific items for the individuals who visit our pantry: toilet paper and toothpaste. These items are in high demand by the families we serve. If you could please bring these items to the church and place them in the brown bin outside of the adult classroom in the lobby, it would be an easy way for you to help the families who live in our community, many of which visit our pantry every two weeks. Thanks for all of your help, and may the Lord give you and your family a wonderful Christmas this year.
