Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Contemporary Rite p. 63 Hymn of Faith p. 13 vv. 1 & 3 Penitential Rite, p. 66 Entrance Hymn V. The breakers of death surged round about me; the menacing floods terrified me. The cords of Sheol tightened; the snares of death lay in wait for me. R. In my distress I called out: Lord! I cried out to my God. From His temple He heard my voice; my cry to Him reached His ears. V. Glory be R. As it was... A Reading from the First Book of Kings. 1 Kings 17:17-24 Elijah went to Zarephath of Sidon to the house of a widow. The son of the mistress of the house fell sick, and his sickness grew more severe until he stopped breathing. So she said to Elijah, Why have you done this to me, O man of God? Have you come to me to call attention to my guilt and to kill my son? Elijah said to her, Give me your son. Taking him from her lap, he carried the son to the upper room where he was staying, and put him on his bed. Elijah called out to the LORD: O LORD, my God, will you afflict even the widow with whom I am staying by killing her son? Then he stretched himself out upon the child three times and called out to the LORD: O LORD, my God, let the life breath return to the body of this child. The LORD heard the prayer of Elijah; the life breath returned to the child s body and he revived. Taking the child, Elijah brought him down into the house from the upper room and gave him to his mother. Elijah said to her, See! Your son is alive. The woman replied to Elijah, Now indeed I know that you are a man of God. The word of the LORD comes truly from your mouth. This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me. (Ps. 30) Cleric s Corner Subdeacon Richard Kasprzak It has been quite a little time period. We had Easter (Christmas first, of course. You can t be resurrected if you re not born). There was my elevation to a Sub Deacon, and a great brunch afterward (I think I m still digesting some of that great food [Sue s great Breakfast Casserole and Nan s superb French toast.] Even Bishop Stan got to chow down on his favorite, minus the potatoes. Our last dinner was really well received. The City Chicken was prepared just right, a bit crunchy on the outside, and soft and juicy on the inside. I was really proud of the redskin potatoes, all fifty pounds of them. They were perfectly sliced, blinded correctly (removed the eyes, ears, etc). I m trying to remember who peeled, cut up, and placed in the water these potatoes. Hmm And the desert (dessert?) table was a sight to be seen. People were coming in and getting their desserts before ordering up their dinners. Lemon pies ran out first, then the key lime, the cherry and apple. We had homemade bread pudding, with the sauce by Marsha which I was hoping would not sell out, but did. Maybe some of that at our dinner in September? I think that it will be a Polish theme, always a good feed. Spring is almost done, and time to switch our organists for the summer. Audrey has been at it for nine months, and done a good job. For the Hundredth Year Anniversary, Audrey did a truly awesome job. She had some of her fellow students come in, and they all performed beautifully. She is lucky to have these resources for her. Again, a great job. Elizabeth will be playing till September, when we start getting ready for Florida again. Let s take a look at her playing history. She started music, piano first, at the age of six with a private teacher in Windsor, Ontario, Canada (JUST ACROSS THE RIVER.) She began organ a few years later, and got really good. At the age of 17, she began playing at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic, the Polish Church in Windsor,(across the river), playing 8 Masses a week, 52 weeks a year, plus Holy Days, weddings, funerals, etc.{one heck of a long sentence, eh}. This she continued until she married (me, incidentally) at which time she came to America from Canada.(from Elizabeth... My future mother-in-law was aghast at Richard s choice of a wife. As she put it, all these nice Polish girls here in Detroit, and you are going to marry a foreigner? )Liz taught school (Parochial) in Windsor for 32 years, and during that time, she continued her playing at various times for many functions. She even provided the music at the Cathedral in Chicago for the Chrism Mass in 2015. She was asked to play here as the church organist regularly, but because we go to Florida, she could not accept. When Mr. Pavel was hired, she occasionally advised Pavel about organ playing, as he had had very little experience with the organ. Not a bad resume. I ll talk to Miss Audrey, and maybe spotlight her next (with her permission, of course). How about we do a congregation member. Any volunteers? June 5, 2016 2 June 5, 2016 11

A reading from the First Letter of St. Paul to the Galatians. Gal 1:11-19 I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel preached by me is not of human origin. For I did not receive it from a human being, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ. For you heard of my former way of life in Judaism, how I persecuted the Church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it, and progressed in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries among my race. But when God, who from my mother s womb had set me apart was pleased to reveal his Son to me, so that I might proclaim him to the Gentiles, I went into Arabia and then returned to Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to talk with Cephas and remained with him for fifteen days. But I did not see any other of the Apostles, only James the brother of the Lord. This is the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God Gospel Acclamation V. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia R. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia V. A great prophet has risen in our midst, God has visited his people. R. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia Homemade Fresh & Smoked Kielbasa Joyview Meat Market, Inc. Lk 7:11-17 Jesus journeyed to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd accompanied him. As he drew near to the gate of the city, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. A large crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, he was moved with pity for her and said to her, Do not weep. He stepped forward and touched the coffin; at this the bearers halted, and he said, Young man, I tell you, arise! The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, crying out A great prophet has arisen in our midst, and God has visited his people. This report about him spread through the whole of Judea and in all the surrounding region. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise be to You, Jesus Christ. June 5, 2016 10 June 5, 2016 3
