Welcome! Shine Where You Are is this month s sermon series about living out God s calling in our lives. During November s fleeing sunlight, you are invited to explore the light of the world. How does your life, your love, and your work shine with God s grace? Shine Where You Are: You are the Light of the World Today is All Saints Sunday, a special time when we remember those who have gone before us and who still encourage us to shine God s light while we have life and breath. Parents, you can find canvas activity bags for your children in the back of the sanctuary. For infants up through age three, the nursery is available. Thank you for joining us today. We welcome you! You are also invited to take an Announcements sheet here at Easter, or visit easter.org for events & activities (Announcement sheets are posted weekly under Events & News). Shine Where You Are All Saints Weekend November 5, 2017 8:30 & 10 a.m. Easter Lutheran Church to grow in faith and carry on the work of Jesus Christ Prelude: I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light - arr. Floeter Ben Kornelis, piano Greetings and Announcements Video: Thank you to our volunteers Gathering Thanksgiving for Baptism Pastor: Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God, the fountain of living water, the rock who gave us birth, our light and our salvation. Congregation: Amen. P: Joined to Christ in the waters of baptism, we are clothed with God s mercy and forgiveness. Let us give thanks for the gift of baptism. C: We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters and by your Word you created the world, calling forth life in which you took delight. As Jesus did, we welcome children of all ages as integral members of the body of Christ, and we welcome the sounds and activity that accompany them! Thank you Parents/Grandparents for bringing your children to worship! Through the waters of the flood you delivered Noah and his family. Through the sea you led your people Israel from slavery into freedom. At the river your Son was baptized by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit. By water and your Word you claim us as daughters and sons, making us heirs of your promise and servants of all. We praise you for the gift of water that sustains life, and above all we praise you for the gift of new life in Jesus Christ. Shower us with your Spirit, and renew our lives with your forgiveness, grace and love. To you be given honor and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

The Sharing of the Peace is a way of demonstrating hospitality and grace with others. Please understand if some people choose not to shake hands while sharing the Peace for health reasons, but simply greet you with a smile. Sharing of the Peace Pastor: The peace of the Lord be with you always. Congregation: And also with you. Gathering Hymn: For All The Saints Hymnal #422 The Holy Spirit gathers us in unity on the first day of the week, the day of Christ s resurrection Remembrance for All Saints P: Let us remember all the saints before God. We praise and bless you, O holy Trinity. You have taught your church that it is an ageless communion of saints. We thank you for gathering those who faithfully waited in hope for the redemption you promised. Prepare a place for us among those who are already with you. Help us remember them as an encouragement to saintly living, exciting us to love, in anticipation of an eternal reunion. C: Amen. P: Christ says, Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, C: and you will find rest for your souls. P: For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. C: And you will find rest for your souls. At this time, the names will be read of those Easter members who have died in the past five years. After the names are read, worshipers are invited to name aloud those saints whom you remember today. As we speak the names, we are reminded of the "Great Cloud of Witnesses" that surrounds us, and we take comfort in the promise that one day we will join together again with the glorious company of the saints in light. 2 All Saints Roll Call

Prayer of the Day God of the shining stars, remind us that we too are your light. Uncover us when we hide our light away. Stand beside us when we find ourselves afraid and in the dark. Children s Message Word JAM Kids! You can go to the Fellowship Hall now to join your Small Group. Have fun learning about Jesus! God speaks to us in scripture reading, preaching, and song Lesson: Psalm 36: 5-9 (NRSV) Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your judgments are like the great deep; you save humans and animals alike, O Lord. How precious is your steadfast love, O God! All people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. L: The word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. 3

Lesson: Revelation 21: 1-6 (NRSV) Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away. And the one who was seated on the throne said, See, I am making all things new. Also he said, Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true. Then he said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life. L: The word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. Gospel Acclamation: Holy Communion, Setting Three 1978, 2006: Richard W. Hillert, b. 1923. Gospel: Matthew 5: 1-16 (NRSV) When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. 4 You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. L: The gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ.

Sermon: Pastor Kristen Capel Hymn of the Day: I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light Hymnal #815 5

Father is a specific and accessible image of God that Jesus gave us. Jesus did not limit God to this image. References to God as Creator, Parent, Mother, Counselor can be equally as helpful and valid. Another translation of catholic church is church universal Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Baptism (8:30) Marguerite Sophia Wallenberg, daughter of Kevin & Maren Wallenberg. Her sponsors are Mick & Michelle Semantel. P: Let us speak together words of welcome to our new sister in Christ. C: We welcome you into the body of Christ and into the mission we share: to grow in faith and carry on the work of Jesus Christ! Prayers of Intercession The offering is an act of worship. We give ourselves, our time and resources as a symbol of our love and appreciation for God s grace, and our investment in God s work through this church. Communion today is at the table. Grape juice is available in the tray and gluten-free wafers are at the back of the sanctuary near the sound booth. Holy Communion, Setting Three 1978, 2006: Richard W. Hillert, b. 1923. P: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus Christ; who on this day overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. And so, with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: Holy, Holy, Holy Holy Communion, Setting Three 1978, 2006: Richard W.
