Page 2 TABERNACLE NEWS Farewells in 2011 Caption describing Ms. Gladys Brooks Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to some of our most beloved members in 2011, including Ms. Loretta V. Morris, Ms. Gladys Hanna Brooks, Ms. Lena Burke and Ms. Patricia Carlton. These women of faith made tremendous contributions to the Tabernacle family and will be sorely missed for their indomitable spirit, their love for their church, and their willingness to speak the truth in love. Although our hearts are grieved at their loss, we rejoice in the knowledge that they are now resting comfortably in a better place, in a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.. For we believe by faith that death is not the end for a Christian. We understand that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Therefore, instead of saying good bye,we say farewell and we ll see you again one day, on the other side! Ms. Loretta Morris Min. Williena Owes. Welcome New Ministry Partners Tabernacle welcomed two new ministry partners who made a significant difference in the life of our congregation during the past year. Seminarian Megan Fryling served as our Vicar. Vicar Megan produced our monthly newsletter, helped produce our weekly worship bulletins, and taught the adult bible school class on Sunday mornings. In recent months, Minister Williena Owes has joined our fellowship and has become a member of the choir and has successfully organized our growing Friday night youth ministry. Vicar Megan Fryling Lay Preaching Opportunities We are developing our Lay preaching schedule for 2012, and we would like to know how many people are interested in participating. Greetings Friends, I believe that we have been blessed with the opportunity to do great things in 2012. I recognize that we are living in difficult times, but I know that we serve a God who is bigger than any problem that we will face. I am extremely grateful to those members of our congregation who continue to walk by faith and not by sight. I am extremely appreciative of those persons who took the time to be with me during the mission planning event that was held at the church on Sunday, November 6 th Your presence and participation has helped me to understand how much you care for this church. Realizing that planning is necessary for any successful organization, I remain committed to the synod s Transformational Ministry process. Although I am somewhat biased, I am convinced that the TM process, if used properly, can be an effective tool for mission planning and implementation. It is my hope that this process will help our members discern where and how God is calling us to do ministry in the future. Most importantly, during the follow-up mission planning meeting that was held on Saturday, November 19, 2011, those who attended reviewed the input that was gathered during the mission planning event and suggested that we concentrate our efforts in the following areas in 2012 Youth Ministry Children s Sunday School Adult Sunday school Sunday Morning worship I wholeheartedly agree and pledge to do all that I can to ensure that these key areas of ministry are addressed. I know that with the Lord s help, all of these things and more are possible if we believe. Keep the faith! In His Service, Pastor Rodgers
