New Sermon Series Listen to Him On the Road to Resurrec on Jesus gathered on a high mountain where He was transfigured right before the eyes of Peter, James and John. The voice of God spoke three thunderously piercing words into the minds and hearts of these disciples. The words? LISTEN TO HIM. Those words are for us today! The forty days of Lent take us from the top of the Mountain of Transfigura on to the bo om of the Valley of the Cross and ul mately to the Resurrec on. During this season, we will lean in and listen deeply to Jesus. Listening to Jesus...it s our highest calling to the lowest place where we discover lives transformed and our worst days breaking forth into our best life. This Lenten series of messages takes us through the Gospel of Luke. Join us on this necessary journey as we listen to Jesus! Medical Ministry CARE OF YOUR INSIDES Care of the insides can mean a multitude of our God given anatomy, but we want to focus in on March s topic of the month which is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colon cancer is the third most common cancer in the USA and affects people in all age and ethnic groups with more commonality in ages over 50 years. Prevention of problems with this malignancy is of utmost important with screenings and awareness. Yes, younger folks can acquire this and that can be a familial tendency, so knowledge of abnormal digestion symptoms is essential. Please let your doctor know if you are having any continued changes in bowel habits with diarrhea, weight loss, and/or abdominal pain etc. Many of us are fully aware of the need for colonoscopy testing after the age of 50 and your physician should be mentioning this to you if you are heading toward this decade of life. The colonoscopy is a diagnostic test that uses a flexible scope to view the large intestines. It also is an outpatient procedure that has a day s worth of preparing the intestines to empty out the colon for good views of the walls and structure of the colon. Yes, the prep always gets a bad review but overall the testing results could prove to be a lifesaver for us. Not only can it diagnose some cancer areas, but colonoscopy screens can also visualize polyps. Polyps are an accumulation of cells that form on the lining of the colon and can have the potential to grow in to a cancerous state. Risks of having polyps include a sedentary lifestyle, ages over 50, a previous diagnosis of Chron s or ulcerative colitis, diabetes, alcohol and/or smoking use, hereditary disorders and family history. Colonoscopy screens can also diagnose other colon disorders such as finding reasons for bleeding, abdominal pain, diverticulosis which can then possibly lead to an infection of the colon lining areas called diverticulitis. But be advised that the diagnosis of diverticulosis is very common in people over 60 years of age. There are many other digestive disorders and they include heartburn/ GERD, irritable bowel disease, gastroenteritis, gallbladder and pancreas issues and the list goes on. The best thing we can do is to take wholesome care of our insides to balance our lifestyles in the right amounts and proportions of our elements including what we consume, exercise frequency, rest, spiritual care, stress reduction, and getting positive social exposure. It is a challenge, but we are solely in charge of taking care of our health and well being to be able to enjoy the world and love that God has given us. Their Call to Ac on raised funds to send a doctor and teacher to assist. The March me ng led to the forma on of the Women s Foreign Mission Society, the first of many Methodist women s missions organiza ons to address the injus ces imposed on women and girls in the l9th century. United Methodist Women is the successor.

Dear MUMC Family, We haven t been with you since June of 2017, but last month, when Mom went to be with Jesus, you made us feel as though we hadn t retired and moved to Kentucky, but were still there in Morton, gathered up in your collective loving arms. The flowers would have been enough [They were beautiful and treasured!, but your cards and calls were many and greatly appreciated! That, too, would have been enough, but a number of you blessed us and honored Mom with your presence at her graveside service in Braidwood [An hour and a half away!] or her memorial service in Barrington [Nearly twice that distance!] or both! We were utterly humbled and gloriously comforted by all of you! I know that if we lived close by, this old retired pastor and his wife could count on excellent pastoral care from Alan, Gabe, Amy and Gary the Third, for look what we received long distance!!! In Jesus love and gratitude, Gary (II) and Becky Motta We would like to thank-you our church family so very much for all the prayers and concern you have shown us following David s recent surgery. From the pastor visits, Amy and Kerry visits, to the beautiful afghan knitted by the Skeins of Love group, to WATCH meals, cards, and most of especially for all your prayers. We have been blessed beyond words. David & Marilyn Formhals Many thanks for the prayers, cards and pastoral visits during my recent illness. MUMC is an awesome, caring church. In Christ, Joyce Kovalcik I appreciate all the thoughts, prayers and cards I have received form my friends at MUMC. God is Good! Margi Weygand-Charter Member

MUMCYouth Jr. High Retreat March 1-2 About 10 of us will be heading to Springfield, IL for the Believe Conference. This will be our third time in four years. The worship is terrific, the teaching is challenging, and there is a lot of fun to be had. All of it is geared to spark a hunger in Jr. high students for God, His Word, and living for Him in all our ways. We re looking forward to it being another great year. Fat Tuesday Fun March 5 For the second year in a row, the church will have a fun night on Fat Tuesday. This will include a delicious meal and, also, games to play and trivia to answer. Prizes will be available to win. The meal will start at 5pm and, by 5:45pm, we will start the games and trivia. We should be finished up by 6:30pm with full bellies and plenty of laughs. There will be a suggested donation for the meal and any money that we make that goes above the cost of the food will go towards the summer trips for the Youth. We really hope to see you there. Adults Night Out March 16 Our big fancy meal night is coming soon! Reservation forms are now available. Please make your reservation soon and make sure you invite plenty of friends! This is a beautiful evening where we make the gym look as pretty as a gym can look, cook up a delicious menu of Italian food and desserts, and give you a chance to be served on every level by the youth of the church. Childcare is available, live music is playing, and it is all for nothing more than a donation (all donations support the summer youth mission trips of MUMC). Reservations are available every 15 minutes, beginning at 5:00 pm and ending at 7:15 pm. Come and enjoy a night out! Joint Confirmation Retreat March 30-31 For the first time (at least in a long time), the 7th and 8th grade confirmation classes will be teaming up for a joint overnight retreat. Our fantastic confirmation leaders have come together to plan this in hopes of building bonds between students who might not otherwise know each other well or spend time together. The retreat will include time to serve others, time to learn from the Word of God together, and plenty of time for fun and food. May God bless the whole event and everyone taking part in it! Insomnia Fest On the night of February 15, and into the morning of February 16, about 40 teenagers came together to have fun while attempting to stay awake for the whole night. We started the night off enjoying Elevate trampoline park in East Peoria. Many got to test their ninja potential on courses that highlight strength and agility (Jared Walters and Caleb Alt probably have the most potential as ninjas, just in case you are a ninja and are looking for a promising apprentice to bring under your wing). Everyone got to have fun and get out lots of energy before eating pizza and catching their breath. Then, it was back to the church for card games, 9-square, gaga ball, movies, video games, snacks, soda, dancing, racing, dodgeball, sardines, and, eventually, breakfast and cleanup. We had a terrific group of teens that didn t cause an ounce of drama (or property damage, for that matter). We had amazing adult helpers who came to drive, chaperone, set up snacks and oversee the kitchen, oversee sections of the building, connect with our teens, and clean up. Specifically, Matt Milby, Andy Sullivan, Liz Alt, Lori Walters, Dan Bohling, Marci Tewksbury, Mike Wefer (midnight to 8am!), Heather Berger, Michelle Hajny, Deb Morrison, Carol Buffington, Lynn Trovillion, and Shelly Van Etten were hugely helpful. Thank you sooooo much for making it easier than it should ve been!
