Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary HOLY MASS GESU CATHOLIC CHURCH ARCHDIOCESE OF MIAMI

PROCESSION Stand PRAYERS AT THE FOOT OF THE ALTAR Kneel As the priest prays at the foot of the altar, the introit is chanted. INTROIT Signum magnum apparuit in cœlo: mulier amicta sole, et luna sub pedibus ejus, et in capite ejus corona stellarum duodecim. Cantate Domino canticum novum: quoniam mirabilia fecit. Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto, sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in sæcula sæculorum. Amen. Signum magnum apparuit in cœlo: mulier amicta sole, et luna sub pedibus ejus, et in capite ejus corona stellarum duodecim. A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. Sing to our Lord a new song: for he has done marvellous things. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, be both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen. A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. Then all together sing the Kyrie. KYRIE Lord, have mercy. (thrice) Christ, have mercy. (thrice) Lord, have mercy. (thrice) Again all sing the great hymn of praise, the doxology.

DOXOLOGY Stand Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

The priest then calls the people to pray. COLLECT. The Lord be with you.. And with your spirit.. Per eundem Dominum nostrum Jesum Christum Filium tuum, qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitate Spiritus Sancti Deus Almighty evereternal God, who took up the Immaculate Virgin Mary, the bearer of your Son, body and soul into heavenly glory: grant, we humbly ask; that, ever reaching to things above, we should merit to be sharers of her glory. Through this same our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you, O God, in the oneness of the Holy Spirit Through all the ages of ages.. Amen.

After the collect, the lesson is chanted. LESSON Sit A reading from the book of Judith. Our Lord has blessed you in his power, for by you he has brought our enemies to nothing. Blessed are you daughter of our Lord the high God, above all women upon the earth. Blessed be our Lord, who made heaven and earth, who has directed you unto the wounds of the head of the prince of our enemies. For this day he has so magnified your name, that your praise shall not depart out of the mouth of men, who shall be mindful of the power of our Lord for ever, for you have not spared your life for the distresses and tribulations of your kindred, but have holpen the ruin before the presence of our God. You are the glory of Jerusalem, the joy of Israel, the honour of our people. Between the lesson and gospel are chanted the gradual and alleluia, psalms of meditation and praise. GRADUAL Audi, filia, et vide, et inclina aurem tuam, et concupiscit rex decorem tuum. Omnis gloria ejus filiæ Regis ab intus, in fimbriis aureis circumamicta varietatibus. Hear, daughter, and see, and incline your ear, and the King will covet your beauty. All the glory of that daughter of the King is within, in borders of gold, clothed round about with varieties. ALLELUIA Assumpta est Maria in cœlum: gaudet exercitus Angelorum. Mary has been taken up into heaven: the choirs of Angels rejoice.

GOSPEL Stand. The Lord be with you.. And with your spirit.. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.. Glory to you, O Lord. At that time: lisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit: and she cried out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And from where is this to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? For behold as the voice of your salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb leapt for joy. And blessed is she that believed, for those things shall be accomplished that were spoken to her by our Lord. And Mary said, My soul magnifies our Lord. And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he has regarded the humility of his handmaid: for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty has done great things to me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him. A homily follows. Afterwards the faithful profess the Symbol of Faith.

SYMBOL OF FAITH Stand I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Again the priest calls the people to pray; the prayer is chanted. OFFERTORY Sit. The Lord be with you.. And with your spirit.. Let us pray Inimicitias ponam inter te et mulierem, et semen tuum et semen illius. I will put enmities between you and the woman, and your seed and her seed.

As the offertory is chanted, the priest offers the bread and wine and prepares himself for the sacrifice by prayer, incense, and the washing of his hands. Before he ends, he turns and says Orate, fratres ( Pray, brethren ). He ends his prayer aloud. PREFACE Stand Through all the ages of ages.. Amen.. The Lord be with you.. And with your spirit.. Lift up your hearts.. We lift them up to the Lord.. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.. It is right and just. Per quem majestatem tuam laudant Angeli, adorant Dominationes, tremunt Potestates. Cœli cælorumque Virtutes ac beata Seraphim socia exsultatione concelebrant. Cum quibus et nostras voces ut admitti jubeas, deprecamur, supplici confessione dicentes: It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God: and to praise you, bless you and preach you on the Assumption of blessed Mary ever Virgin. Who conceived your Only Begotten by the overshadowing of the Holy Spirit: and, keeping the glory of her virginity, gave the world the eternal light, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Through whom your majesty the Angels praise; the Dominations worship; the Powers tremble before. The heavens and Virtues of heaven join the blessed Seraphim to celebrate with great exultation. We pray you bid our voices be admitted also, together with them, while we say with lowly praise: Then all together sing the Sanctus.

SANCTUS Kneel Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. As the Sanctus is sung, the priest begins to pray the canon, which he says in a soft voice. In silence the faithful prepare themselves for holy communion. The priest lifts his voice only to say Nobis quoque peccatoribus ( And to us sinners ). He ends his prayer aloud. OUR FATHER Stand Through all the ages of ages.. Amen.. Let us pray Præceptis salutaribus moniti, et divina institutione formati, audemus dicere: Pater noster, qui es in cœlis: sanctificetur nomen tuum: adveniat regnum tuum: fiat voluntas tua, sicut in cœlo, et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie: et dimitte nobis debita nostra, sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem: At the Saviour s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation:. But deliver us from evil.

The priest continues the prayer quietly and ends aloud. KISS OF PEACE Through all the ages of ages.. Amen.. The peace of the Lord be with you always.. And with your spirit. Then all together sing the Agnus Dei. AGNUS DEI Kneel Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace. Before the people s communion, the priest shows the sacrament and says Ecce Agnus Dei, ecce, qui tollit peccata mundi. Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Then he thrice says Domine, non sum dignus, ut intres sub tectum meum: sed tantum dic verbo, et sanabitur anima mea. Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

Whereupon the people may come to the altar to communicate; to each communicant the priest says Corpus Domini nostri Jesu Christi custodiat animam tuam in vitam æternam. Amen. The body of our Lord Jesus Christ guard your soul unto eternal life. Amen. As the people communicate, the communion is chanted. COMMUNION Beatam me dicent omnes generationes, quia fecit mihi magna qui potens est. Magnificat anima mea Dominum, et exsultavit spiritus meus in Deo salutari meo. Beatam Et misericordia ejus a progenie in progenies timentibus eum. Beatam Fecit potentiam in brachio suo, dispersit superbos mente cordis sui. Amen. Beatam All generations shall call me blessed, for he that is mighty has done great things to me. My soul magnifies our Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saviour. All generations And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him. All generations He has hewed might in his arm: he has dispersed the proud in the conceit of their heart. All generations He has deposed the mighty from their seat, and has exalted the humble. All generations The hungry he has filled with good things: and the rich he has sent away empty. All generations He has received Israel his child, being mindful of his mercy. All generations As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his seed for ever. All generations Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, be both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen. All generations

The priest calls the people to follow their communion with prayer. POSTCOMMUNION Stand. The Lord be with you.. And with your spirit.. Let us pray Sumptis, Domine, salutaribus sacramentis: da, quæsumus; ut, meritis et intercessione beatæ Virginis Mariæ in cœlum assumptæ, ad resurrectionis gloriam perducamur. Per Dominum nostrum Jesum Christum Filium tuum, qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitate Spiritus Sancti Deus Having taken, O Lord, the saving sacrament: grant, we humbly ask; that, through the merits and intercession of the blessed Virgin Mary taken up into heaven, we should be led to the glory of resurrection. Through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you, O God, in the oneness of the Holy Spirit Through all the ages of ages.. Amen. At the end of the liturgy, the priest sends the people forth. SENDING. The Lord be with you.. And with your spirit.. Go, it has been sent.. Thanks be to God.

Before they go, the people are given a blessing. BLESSING. Benedicat vos omnipotens Deus, Pater, et Filius, et Spiritus Sanctus.. Amen. Kneel. May almighty God bless you, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.. Amen. After the blessing, the priest reads the beginning of the holy Gospel according to John. All kneel at the words Et Verbum caro factum est ( And the Word became flesh ). RECESSION Stand HYMN: Salve Regina H a i l, O Q u e e n, Mother of mercy. Our life, our sweetness and our hope, hail! We cry to you, the banished, the children of Eve. We sigh to you, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Ah then, our advocate, turn those merciful eyes of yours towards us. And, after this exile, show us Jesus, the blessed fruit of your womb. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
