Grant that all who believe in your Son may proclaim the Gospel of life with honesty and love to the people of our time. Biennial Meeting of Virginia District Purpose of the Color Corps When knighthood was in flower, knights carried the sword to defend their God, their Church, their country and their fellow man according to the code of chivalry. Today, Sir Knights wear regalia and carry the sword to honor C h r i s t a n d H i s a p o s t l e s, especially on religious and civic occasions specified in the Color Corps Drill Manual. Hence, the primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to encourage active Catholic citizenship and foster the spirit of patriotism in members and the community at large. The public appearance of Fourth Degree Knights as a Color Corps at religious and civic functions is an important activity of each a s s e m b l y. B y t h e s e p u b l i c demonstrations their loyalties bring credit to themselves and to the Knights of Columbus. Color Corps Commander SK Terry M. Fairman ccmd@kofcassembly2184.org 757-344-2768 The Virginia District conducts a district-wide meeting on a biennial basis. The 2018 biennial meeting will be held on March 10, 2018 at the home of Fr. Kelley Council in Woodbridge, VA. One of the functions of this meeting is for the District to consolidate motions for presentation to the Supreme Master. Another function of this meeting is for the District to determine the names of the Sir Knight(s) who will be nominated to be the District Master and to submit those name(s) to the Supreme Master for the final selection. The District Master is appointed for a two year term that expires on September 1st in even-numbered years. The Supreme By-Laws concerning the Fourth Degree define the number of delegates as the Faithful Navigator and one delegate for every major fraction of 100 members. The membership is based upon Supreme Council Membership records as of January 1, 2018. As of January 1, 2018 our Assembly has 231 members which translates to the Navigator plus two additional delegates for a total of three. Nominations for delegates and alternate delegates to the Biennial Meeting will be made at the January 17, 2018 business meeting and elections for delegates and alternate delegates will be held at the February 21, 2018 business meeting. We must elect the same number of alternate delegates as we have regular delegates. We will need nominations for the two additional delegates as well as for three alternate delegates. All Sir Knights are encouraged to carefully consider who will be nominated as delegates and to be prepared to present those nominations at the January 17, 2018 business meeting. This is an important function as these delegates will be charged with review of proposed motions for presentation to the Supreme Master and, importantly, or determining the nominee(s) for the next District Master. If you will be unable to be present at the January 17 business meeting, you may send your nominations for delegates to the Faithful Navigator at fnasy2184@gmail.com not later than 3:00 PM on January 17, 2018. www.kofcassembly2184.org 2

Driving the chase vehicle was Lynda Fairman, who also provided some photographs for us. Many thanks to Lynda and Cindy for their help in decorating the truck. The weather was beautiful for marching, and enthusiastic crowds lined the entire parade route. After the parade event, all participants were cordially invited to the home of our Worthy District Master, SK Tom Trudeau, who along with his wife, Jeri, opened their home to us for light snacks and Christmas spirit. We wish to thank Tom and Jeri for once again graciously allowing the Color Corps to come into their home to share fellowship and help all of us get the Christmas season off to a great start. The Master announced a new District Marshal at the State Meeting, Dave Todd. www.kofcassembly2184.org 4
Renewal of Obligations SK Jimmy K. Trentham, Faithful Navigator On January 2, 2018 Officers and Sir Knights of the Assembly attended the annual Renewal of Obligations Ceremonial. Again this year the ceremonial was hosted by Fr. Bader Assembly at the Columbian Center in Newport News, VA. The purpose of the occasion was the Renewal of Obligations. This is a mandatory event for each Assembly to remind us of our promises and pledges that we made as we took each of our steps from the 1st Degree through our 4th Degree. The Order of the Knights of Columbus is dedicated to the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. And since each Sir Knight promised to be faithful and live up to his commitment in each of his Degrees, the Renewal of Obligations Ceremony is to recall what we pledged to do in each Degree and to solemnly repeat what was promised as a sign of our continued commitment. These commitments are known only to our Brother Knights. In the 1st Degree we were sworn to share them only with qualified Brothers in Good Standing. In our 2nd Degree we made a commitment of Unity to each other and in our 3rd Degree we pledged our Fraternity to our Brother Knights. In the 4th Degree we pledged our duty to our Country as a Catholic Citizen. My thanks to all Sir Knights who attended. Prayer Requests SK Frank Komornik, PFN SK Randy Vis SK Thomas Trudeau, District Master SK Al Jury, PFN SK Vinnie & Lorraine Elia SK Bob Hinger Please remember these Sir Knights and their families in your prayers.
