We invite everyone to sign the Record of Fellowship in each pew. Our guests are also invited to sign the guest book on the Welcome Table in the entryway. TODAY WE CELEBRATE THE LORD S SUPPER At St. Matthew we believe that the Lord s Supper (Holy Communion) is a ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and an expression of our unity in belief and teaching. Therefore, in Christian love we extend this ministry to baptized Christians who Have been properly instructed and confess the teachings of the Bible as taught in The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS); Acknowledge their sins and repent of their sins; Confess Jesus Christ alone as Savior from all sin; Believe with us that Christ s body and blood are truly present in, with, and under the bread and wine; Intend, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to amend their sinful lives and forgive others as Christ has forgiven them. Guests who do not hold membership in a congregation of the LCMS are respectfully asked to visit with the pastor before or after the worship service regarding their desire to commune. Martin Luther s Christian Questions with Their Answers on pages 329-330 in Lutheran Service Book is a good resource to use to prepare oneself to receive the Lord s Supper. NOTES FOR COMMUNION DISTRIBUTION Receive the bread the body of Christ in your hand. You may receive the wine the blood of Christ with either the individual cup or the common cup. Please assist with the common cup. The individual cups in the center of the tray contain reduced alcohol wine for those that need to receive Christ s blood this way. Those not receiving the Sacrament but wish to receive a blessing (including non-confirmed children) are asked to take a wooden cross from the basket next to the baptismal font. Hold the cross in front of you as the communion elements are distributed. As you then return to your pew, please place the cross in the basket next to the collection tray for individual cups.

Serve the Lord with Gladness Psalms 110:2 is the motto of the LWML. What a blessing to be part of a congregation that lives this Psalm! The Annual Spring Salad Committee for 2018 wish to thank all the volunteers and attendees who made this year s luncheon a success. This annual event would not have been possible without the many hands that; set up the tables, stage and displays, donated salads and other food, decorated tables, donated door prizes, worked in the kitchen before and after, acted as hostesses and servers, and shared their messages and musical talents with us. Thanks to all who attended and for all the generous donations to the Love Like Lorraine mission. There were 122 purses, 6 drawstring bags for boys, and boxes and boxes of personal items that will be used to fill the bags and purses to be given to the homeless. A Big Thanks to all who helped make this a fun and memorable day! LIFE THOUGHT FROM THIS WEEK S READINGS Almighty God calls us, even us, His own children (1 John 3:1). He accepts us, adopts us, and adores us as helplessly dependent little ones. Indeed, He made Himself just such a child to show us how special this is! Can we also look upon helpless and dependent persons like embryos or incapacitated patients not in pity or competition but with Father-like appreciation? If we see Him as He is, we shall become like Him (3:2)! Omnipotent and gentle God, let no one deceive us about the value Your love gives all humankind. Amen. LIFE QUOTE FOR THIS WEEK When people question the value of a life lived with disability, I share God s Word concerning the body of Christ in 1 Corinthians 12:22 (NIV): On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable. Note it does not say those that are weaker, but those that seem to be weaker are indispensable! Mona Fuerstenau, director of Lutheran Ministry Partnerships, Bethesda Lutheran Communities A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life www.lutheransforlife.org OUR CHRISTIAN CALLING John 20:19 Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, Peace be with you. The peace we have in Jesus is what makes a life of good works possible. Since we know that it is Jesus who saved us, and not our works, we are now free to do good works not out of self-interest, but for the right reasons: out of thanksgiving toward God and love for our neighbors.
