Thanks to Everett Alexander, Joe Ed Harrell and Charles Holley for all your hard work in keeping our church grounds so well groomed. As usual, Janice Kriegel has been caring for our beautiful garden. We are entering the fall season and I am looking forward to new and exciting projects. Don t forget that next Sunday, September 18, we will be having a Pot Luck Anniversary Lunch after church to kick off our Fall season. Fried Chicken will be provided and everyone else is asked to bring side dishes and deserts. Also, the Steering Board meeting has been moved to Tuesday, September 20 at 6:00pm in Fellowship Hall. All church members are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting. Linda Ferguson CDC HAPPENINGS We will officially start our Food Program on 9/19/2016. Brenda and I received our training on Tuesday with the Food Program Representative. I also met with our staff, as they will be required to do some daily reporting for this program. Our current menu meets all the requirements of the Food Program, so our children will continue to have nutritious foods as well as experience a variety of other foods. The CDC will be reimbursed for our food cost and this will financially benefit the CDC. These funds can be used to purchase food as well as updated materials & equipment for the CDC. Pam Huffstatler

The Assembly begins Saturday at 1 pm with a Mission First Con-versation and Closes with a Sunday afternoon Business Meeting and Final Words beginning at 3 pm. There will be an All Assembly at Northway Christian Church on Sunday morning or attendees may worship at a church of their choice. Sympathy Kimberly Ann (Kelso) Fairbanks, a former member of our Lakewood family, died on Saturday, September 10 in Cedar Park, TX. There will be a Memorial Service for Kimberly on Saturday, September 17 at the Hill Country Bible Church Leander, 11880 Old 2243 West, Suite 600, Leander, TX 78641. Let s remember Andrew, her husband; her three children; her sisters Karen Ermoian and Mary; and others in her family in our thoughts and prayers. Ralph H. Post, a former member of our Lakewood family, died on Sunday, September 11 and was preceded in death by his wife, Bess. A private family service is planned for October 21, on what would have been their 71st wedding anniversary. Please keep the family and friends in our prayers and thoughts.

Minister s Insights and Inspiration A huge Thank You to Sue Lowry and others who helped make our baptismal service on Sunday such an inspirational experience. Our special thanks to Thelma Matthews who helped get robes ready and to Central Christian Church for loaning us robes, along with the white robe and boots I wore. This coming Sunday we will present Baptismal Certificates and Bibles to each of these children and young people. This coming Sunday, September 18, we will also be reflecting on our history as members of the Lake-wood Christian Church and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). This will be another great Sunday to be in worship. Our church Bylaws call for at least one congregational meeting a year on the second Sunday of November to approve the budget and to elect the Steering Board Officers, Elders, Deacons, Trustees and Group Coordinators. This would be November 13 this year. The Nominating Team of five to seven members to present a slate of candidates is made up of the Moderator Elect, an Elder, a Deacon, and two to four at large members of the congregation. Phil and I are in the process of getting this Team together. Our Administrative Group is responsible for budget planning and our stewardship drive. These processes are also in the planning stage. Our budget projections are particularly important for 2017 as we anticipate the search for a new Senior Minister. We need to begin now to pray for God s guidance as the figures are put together and we consider our individual and family response to the challenge. At the appropriate time, a Ministerial Search and Call Team of four to eight persons will be chosen among whom are to be the Moderator Elect, an Elder, a Deacon and at least one member-at-large from the congregation. We need to be in prayer about this process also. Brandi is near the close of her maternity leave. She and her family will be going to South Carolina next week for the graduation of a nephew from boot camp. She will return to our office near the end of the week of September 26. There will be more later about the volunteer ladies who have helped us in the office during her leave. Thank you for your commitment to God and your support of the various groups and ministries of Lake-wood. Your involvement and gifts matter and make a difference. See you Sunday in worship. Richard
