ADORATION General Announcements Bring Our Gifts of Prayer for the Unborn to Adoration In 1857, a gentleman by the name of John Henry Hopkins, Jr. composed the music and lyrics of the now familiar Christmas carol recalling the journey of the Magi as they came to worship Christ, the babe born in a stable in Bethlehem. The first verse of this beloved hymn is: We three kings of Orient are; Bearing gifts we traverse afar, Field and fountain, moor and mountain, Following yonder star. Mr. Hopkins captured the essence of those wondrous gifts borne to the king of heaven and earth in a way that provokes contemplation and reflection. Simply put, we who journey toward a time when babies are once again welcomed, adored and nurtured by their parents are also journeying toward Christ. Christ seeks our hearts, our lives and our wills. Let us give to Him the gold of our hearts burning with love of Him; let us offer Him the frankincense of our holy lives; and finally let us offer Him the sweet myrrh of our tears of contrition, our tears of sorrow over the sin of the world. We seek Him in every person we encounter, and we bring to those who are confused, suffering or alone the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Remember the Day of Prayer for the Unborn while praying in Adoration. That same Jesus is present in the sacrament of your marriage, ready to elevate the ordinary into the extraordinary!
