PAGE 2 Pastors Corner Hello everyone! Well we're heading toward fall, our revival meeting is just weeks away. Our new building is coming along, they'll be putting a primer on the walls today. It's been a slow process, but the end may be in sight! As we head toward a new season of 2018, I hope that it finds you spiritually where you were hoping to be. If not, God hasn't moved, it's still possible to be closer to Him than you were. As we head toward the end of the year, let me encourage you to continue reading the Word of God. It will be a help to you when nothing else can be, it is how you find out what God's heart is. About God's love for you and me, for a lost and dying world. That we need to reach with the precious gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As I am now, personally, in the fourth quarter of my life. I can look back and see how fast time truly goes. If were not careful will waste one day at a time, which then will be a week at a time, a month at a time, and before we know it years will have gone by. And we still will not have accomplished what we would like to accomplish for the Lord. The book of Psalms is an excellent read for any believer. It gives us encouragement, it gives us hope that helps us in our day-to-day living. That word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee. Also, read the book of Proverbs, it's full of wisdom. We can find, if were not careful, that we overlook the one book that give us direction for this life. So, let me encourage you, read your Bible! Well, I'm looking forward to the first baptisms in the new building, who they'll be, how many? It's an exciting time here at South Valley Baptist Church! Who will be the first one to walk the aisle to accept Christ as Savior? How will this year's revival meeting go? As I said, it is an exciting time, as we reach people with the precious gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Well that's it for this month's letter, have a great month, continue to serve God, with all your heart mind soul and spirit. By Pastor John I. Morris
PAGE 3 Pastors Corner Continued-- Life s Interruptions It is late August and we are getting closer to the end of another hot summer in the desert southwest. School is starting up for all of those that need to attend, days are getting shorter, and cool evenings are coming soon. We are all busy people and it seems like the pace of life picks up with so many things to get done. And then it happens, full blown interruption to our already tight schedules. Life is full of interruptions. Car problems, a sick child, financial surprises, a job issue can interrupt our regular routine. We start to stress out as it can seem we are losing control. My friends this is the time to seek Jesus. Psalms 34:17(The righteous cry and the Lord heareth and delivereth them out of all their troubles.) We can seek Jesus in prayer, reading the Bible, attending a church where the Bible is being taught as the infallible Word of God. These are some of the things we should do but many times we get so consumed with the issue we edge God out. The Bible gives us an account of the various ways God deals with His people. It helps us understand ourselves better. Scripture is constant source of encouragement, instructing us to have hope in hopeless situations. When we read the Bible it is God speaking truth into our lives. When we attend Church the Pastor Helps build a solid foundation for equipping you to apply Biblical truths into your life. We should all be involved in a systematic study of the Bible and that takes place in Sunday School at Church. People need to be instructed in Biblical truths; this helps us grow in character and inspires us into action. Hebrews 10:24-25(And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.) This scripture tells us to encourage one another and not to neglect meeting together. We need to go to church and Sunday school according these Biblical truths. Every Sunday Morning at 9:30, we have here at South Valley Baptist Church, Sunday School being taught to all ages. We have wonderful teachers and I would encourage you to come to a class to renew your mind. Romans( 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God. If you are not attending Church and Sunday School on a regular basis where we study God s word then you are not applying these Biblical truths. It is essential to read your Bible, pray and attend church. If life is to busy, cut something else out, not these essential truths. By Pastor John M. Dodge

PAGE 5 REVIVAL IS COMING! Good Day South Valley! REVIVAL is coming very soon (Sept. 23-28). Your Praise Team is busy working on all the songs we ll sing throughout the Revival. There will be several new songs as well as some of the favorite old songs and of course numerous hymns. I Love Revival! Even though it s a great deal of work to prepare and implement, Revival is such a Joyous time! So, what is Revival? Revival refers to a spiritual reawakening from a state of dormancy or stagnation in the life of a believer. It encompasses the resurfacing of a love for God, an appreciation of God s Holiness, a passion for His Word and His church, a convicting awareness of personal and corporate sin, a spirit of humility, and a desire for repentance and growth in righteousness. It s a fanning of the embers in our hearts that brings forth a burning flame of love for our God! We at South Valley are praying and striving to spread the word of God to our neighbors and community, in hopes of igniting a REVIVAL that spreads across our nation and throughout the world. To do that, we must first revive ourselves! So how do we do that? We ask God to come down. To come reign supreme in our lives. We surrender to Him and His will. So, I ask that each of you start praying! Start praying for revival in yourself, a renewing of joy in your heart; pray for your Praise Team, that they stay healthy and committed to serving God; pray for our pastors and their families, pray for brother Steve Foster and his family; pray for the Revival, that God would fill the church with those that need to come to know Him! REVIVAL! Be JOYOUS! SING HIS PRAISES! Sing Glory!; Sing Hallelujah!; You are redeemed! You are forgiven! Lift up your voices to God Almighty! Know that HE REIGNS. Let all the powers of darkness tremble at the sound of our voices raised in worship to GOD! We look forward to joining our voices with yours as we all sing praises to JESUS, the Lamb of God! Spread the news! REVIVAL IS COMING! By Brian Musick-Music Director

PAGE 7 EDITORIAL PAGE Summer is over and Fall begins! It s time for one last round with those shorts, bathing suits and that outdoor barbecue atmosphere. Before society as a whole, embraces the fall climate of football and pumpkin everything, summer makes its final stand on Labor Day. We often look forward to this long weekend for last-second vacations or gatherings with friends and family. As a Christian, I know that the word labor means, manual work is physical work done by people. Genesis 2:2(KJV) we read, 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. Sometimes we forget the seventh day to rest and to reflect on what God has done for us. Our labor is to provide for our families and to service for Him. Labor is also important to teach children. Parents often times clean their children s bedrooms without getting them to help or doing chores the children could have done. Instead they watch TV or visit their friends. I know I was one of those parents. Over the years, as my two boys got older, they had to learn how to clean, cook, do laundry and other things. I look back and I should have spent time teaching and giving them responsibilities so as they went out on their own, they would have known how to do these jobs. In today s society children are less likely to help with any chores. Technology is part of almost every household which children can be distracted to video games, computers, and even cell phones. I m not saying take away everything, I m saying limit the amount of time to these things and teach them how to work and prepare them for this world. Here are a few suggestions; if you can bring them to work and have them empty garbage cans or clean bookshelves. I have heard of bring you child to work day. Get them involves with serving in your church. One Sunday at my church, a sixth-grade boy, went forward with his grandfather and they collected the offering. How special was that! Remember life goes by quickly. Word of advice, spend as much time with your children. Take time to reward them for their labor and serving. God blesses us for serving Him!
