Hymn Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me Anthem I Heard Him Once Taylor Davis Jesus, Savior, pilot me Over life's tempestuous sea; Chart and compass came from thee; Jesus, Savior, pilot me Unknown waves before me roll, Hiding rock and treach'rous shoal, Chart and compass came from thee; Jesus, Savior, pilot me. As a mother stills her child, Thou canst hush the ocean wild; Wondrous Sov'reign of the sea, Jesus, Savior, pilot me Boist'rous waves obey thy will When thou say'st to them, "Be still!" Wondrous Sov'reign of the sea, Jesus, Savior, pilot me. When at last I near the shore, And the fearful breakers roar May I hear thee say to me, "Fear not; I will pilot thee." Twixt me and the peaceful rest, Then, while leaning on thy breast, May I hear thee say to me "Fear not; I will pilot thee." Scripture Reading Luke 5:1-11 Rev. Kadeisha Bonsu We affirm the reading of Scripture with the following response: Reader: The word of God for us, the people of God. People: Thanks be to God. Sermon Hymn 476 Benediction Postlude Please stand as you are able. I heard him once, the risen Christ, And as he did so long ago, To those who walked beside the sea, He turned and said, "Come follow me." "But who am I?" I whispered back, And as he did so long ago, To those who sat upon a hill, He turned and said, "You are the light." I froze, unable to respond, And as he did so long ago, To one who sat beside a pool, He turned and said, "Is healing what you want?" And then, confronted by the One, Who knew my name, and sensed my aimlessness, I drew a fitful breath, "Yes Lord, make me whole, And I will come and follow you." Rev. BWIM Month of Preaching 2019 Since 2007, Baptist Women in Ministry (BWIM) has invited Baptist churches to feature women preachers during the month of February. By observing the BWIM Month of Preaching, we publicly voice our support of women in ministry, to be counted with other Baptist churches in celebrating the gifts and calling of women. This year s featured preacher is Rev. Melissa Florer-Bixler. Melissa is pastor of Raleigh Mennonite Church and author of the upcoming book, Fire by Night: Finding God in the Pages of the Old Testament. Her formal education occurred at Gordon College, Duke University, and Princeton Theological Seminary. Melissa is a convinced Mennonite. As an adult, she found herself drawn to Anabaptism s emphasis on consensus decision-making, the priesthood of all believers, peacebuilding, and potlucks. She is a sucker for four-part harmony. She is a board member of L Arche North Carolina. She expends the most time, energy, tears, laughter, fear and patience co-parenting her three children with her spouse, Jacob. We are thrilled to have Rev. Florer-Bixler with us today as we celebrate women in ministry at GFBC!
