Lutheran "The wind blows where it wills..." John 3:8 Church September 2017 N W 3705 Harwood Rd., Bedford, TX 76021 Sunday School: 10:00 a.m. Pastor: Rev Mark Lasch Office Phone: 817-283-3560 Sunday 9:00 a.m. & 11:00 a.m. www.concordialutheran.org Pt. 2 The 70 s represented a turbulent time in the history of American Lutheranism. Debates about the inspiration of Scripture, the nature and work of the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues, divine revelation raged from coast to coast. The pinnacle of the debate came in 1974 where at Seminary in St. Louis the president of the seminary was suspended due to a charge of false teaching. It was a tough time to be a Lutheran! was not exempt from the turbulent seas. Pastor Miller received and accepted a call to plant a mission congregation in Katy. Yet as the Lord does, the Lord provided. A retired pastor traveling to see his family asked if he could park his motor home in the church parking lot while visiting his kids. This pastor stayed a little longer than he expected, serving as her vacancy pastor until, by God s call, Rev. (now Dr.) Roger Grummer accepted the call to serve as s second pastor. Times being what they were, some wanted to be a progressive Lutheran Church. Other s wanted her to be a conservative Lutheran Church. Pastor Grummer wanted her to be a church that loved Jesus and one another well. While some stayed and others left, continued teaching the glorious Gospel of the Kingdom of God. The Rev. Dr. Roger Grummer faithfully proclaimed and taught the Word of God at for 27 years! Throughout his ministry he was especially known to be a fantastic teacher, creative in his preaching, and a gifted author. was cold forged in times of struggle and joy to depend upon the faithfulness of God. This remains an integral part of our D.N.A.! As we celebrate our 50 th year of ministry and consider the monumental challenges that are upon us as we seek solutions for our lack of space it is helpful to remember where we ve been. We worshiped in a farm house where the residents once raised pigs, but God was faithful in moving us forward from there. We built a facility that would facilitate our ministry for the next 43 years, and God was faithful in providing for all of our needs. Through the ups and the downs of life in this fallen world God provided a faithful pastor to serve his flock with His gifts of Word and Sacrament, and though With sheep like these it s hard to be a shepherd, God continually blessed with His presence among us. May our God who is faithful and just continue to bless us today as we ve been blessed in the past. God is good, all the time! E S

Update from the Future Needs Committee. The Future Needs Committee (FNC) met on Aug 19 to review the remaining actions to complete Vision Path Compass and discuss the additional available modules. The decision was made to not pursue additional Vision Path modules at this time. In addition, Leadership has not had a chance to review, evaluate and internalize the final results of Compass. The Vision Path - Compass wrap-up call with Billy Brath has been scheduled for Thursday September 14, 7:00 pm at the church. Below is a brief summary from Billy covering the call topics: 1. Pray! 2. Agree on Vision Statement 3. Define words that are chosen 4. Send statement and definition to facilitator for reference. 5. Choose one person (or more) to sit with Pastor to reveal statement and definitions (if pastor isn't part of process.) From the Board of Christian Education... Gen. 28:16 surely the Lord is in this place We hope everyone had a great summer; now it s time to start the new school year! Mark your calendars! Rally Day takes place Sunday, September 10 at 10am. There will be lots of excitement you don t want to miss this special day! Confirmation starts Wednesday, September 13, 6:30 7:30 pm. As always, we want to thank everyone for your support! t - A proposal from a surveying service has been received from Simpco Surveying, Inc. out of Fort Worth and will be presented to Church Council for discussion in August. The cost to survey the church property which includes Boundary Survey, Topographic Utilities/Survey, Tree Survey, Adjoining Buildings, Easements and Building Lines is $6,500.00. This is something that will need to be done no matter in which direction we continue to move. The committee is also looking at architects based on recommendations from Texas District and others. The FNC has been reviewing options for our funding plan. We are in the process of qualifying an architectural firm for professional assessment services with the intent of developing high-level costs for our build options. This information will be one determinant in the decision for what we ultimately build. It will also serve to clarify the need for and scope of a capital campaign. At this point in our process, we believe it is a bit premature to start focused discussions and/or planning for a Capital Campaign.
