Letters TO: young leaders 2 TIMOTHY 3:1-13 A L E A D E R I S G E N U I N E

We are called to be leaders who are genuine in our living for Jesus. 1. A leader has a genuine understanding of the times. 2. A leader seeks to be a genuine reflection of Jesus Christ. 3. A leader has a genuine understanding of God s truth.

I. A leader has a good understanding of the times in which we live. But mark this: there will be terrible times in the last days. (v1) Paul is not speaking of a small slice of time before Christ returns. He is talking about the times in which we now live.

I. A leader has a good understanding of the times in which we live. In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. ~ Acts 2:17 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son ~ Hebrews 1:1-2

I. A leader has a good understanding of the times in which we live. It s important that we have a genuine understanding of the times so that we don t fall into the false teaching that says the world is progressing. Our calling to live for Christ is urgent.

JULY, 2017 OCTOBER, 2018

I. A leader has a good understanding of the times in which we live. Everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and imposters will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. ~ 2 Timothy 3:12

II. A leader seeks to be a genuine reflection of Jesus Christ. Terrible times are characterized by: A. Spiritual emptiness B. Deceit C. Opposition to the truth

II. A leader seeks to be a genuine reflection of Jesus Christ. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it Love your neighbour as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments. ~ Matthew 22:37-40

II. A leader seeks to be a genuine reflection of Jesus Christ. To stand against this false teaching/being we leaders need to be genuine in our reflection of Jesus Christ. We do this through honest confession and humble obedience.

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.

II. A leader seeks to be a genuine reflection of Jesus Christ. Terrible times are characterized by: B. Deceit They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. (v 6-7)

III. A leader is genuine in their understanding of God s truth. But they will not get very far because as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone. (v9) Know the nature of God s truth: God s truth stands falsehood falls The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever. ~ Isaiah 40:8

III. A leader is genuine in their understanding of God s truth. But they will not get very far because as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone. (v9) Know the nature of God s truth: God s truth stands falsehood falls My word that goes out from my mouth: will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. ~ Isaiah 55:11

III. A leader is genuine in their understanding of God s truth. Know the nature of God s truth: God s truth enables us to stand in the face of difficulties, trials. Christ died for sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried and that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. ~ 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

We are called to be leaders who are genuine in our living for Jesus. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life. ~ John 14:6
