Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end! Want a pastoral visit while in the hospital? When being interviewed by the hospital admissions staff, it is not enough to say you re Catholic. In order to be visited by clergy or lay minister, you need to identify yourself by your parish. So, make sure that you tell admissions that you belong to St. Clare Parish. (They may not ask.) Do this whenever you register for anything at the hospital, as this will be on your permanent record until you tell them to change. St. Clare Church Men s Prayer Group Tuesday, November 6, from 7 PM to 8:30 PM The Men s Prayer Group follows a process that is prayerful and relaxing, but one that can lead to a deeper appreciation of the scripture. No special training or biblical knowledge is needed, only the openness to understand better what God is revealing through his scripture. The group meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month in the classroom of the St. Clare Parish Center. The Respect Life Ministry seeks to promote and protect the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death. The ministry meets the Third Wednesday of every month at 8:30 AM from April through September, in the Parish Center. Rosary is said before the 8 AM Mass on the first Friday of every month year-round. All are welcome. The Hospitality Ministry provides a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere for members of the St. Clare community and visitors, as well as new parishioners, to meet and interact with one another in a positive way. This ministry provides opportunities to promote parish fellowship and, when necessary, to assist the Pastor with special events. Meetings take place the first Thursday of every month at 8:30 AM in the Parish Center. The next meeting will be on December 6. All are welcome. The Helping Hands Ministry reaches out to those who are needy, elderly, sick or in need of bereavement consolation. This ministry meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 4 PM in the Parish Center. Enter through the door in the rear parking area. Please feel free to come to these meetings; new faces are always welcome. The next meeting will be on November 6. AA meets every Thursday night from 6 to 7 PM in the St. Clare Parish Center.

Contact Chris Magowan, Director of Faith Formation and Evangelization St. Pius X Parish 401-596-2535 ext. 105 E-mail chrismagowan@verizon.net To love God with all your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices Mark 12:28b-34 TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Just two years ago, we engaged in one of the core activities of our democratic system: a presidential election. Actually, the institution of election can be traced to traditions in the Church, and although bishops are no longer chosen in this way, abbots and abbesses (heads of monastic communities) have almost always been elected by full voting members of their communities. The lifetime appointment begins when the monks or nuns are gathered in chapter at the death or resignation of the abbot, and fortunately for all involved, campaigning is not allowed! The members of the community discern, with prayer to the Holy Spirit, who among them is the best suited for leadership. Once chosen, the new leader requests the blessing of the local bishop, who usually presides at a ceremony of consecration or investiture. The ballots are always secret, and a simple majority must be achieved. In our American system the Electoral College is the determining voice in the presidential election, not the popular election on a November Tuesday, just as the monastic chapter is the electorate. Today, most religious orders elect general superiors in chapter by delegates of the professed members, and usually for a term of six years. A few, like the Jesuits, elect for life. At least we don t have that weight on our shoulders when we choose a president. Four years at a time will do!
