The Prophecies of Daniel 8 and 9, The 70 Weeks Prophecy and the 2300 Days Prophecy Shall we pray. Father in Heaven, please be present with us in this sanctuary today, and help us to grasp these prophecies that we are about to study and their meaning. Lord, give me the words to say. Thank you. In Jesus name, Amen Following up with Allen s discussion of the sanctuary and the Day of Atonement, I ll be talking about the 70 week prophecy and the 2300 day prophecy found in the book of Daniel. Daniel was a captive in Babylon. In Daniel chapter 9, we see that Daniel prayed toward Jerusalem, for the Lord to show him when the Messiah would come, how long until God s people would get to go home again. And the angel answered, in Daniel 9:23,24 23 At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision. 24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Now 1 day = 1 year in Bible prophecy. We see that in Ezek 4:6, Numbers 14:23 - day for a yr. Even in the New Testament, Luke 13:32 Jesus said: today, tomorrow, and the 3 rd day Did Jesus preach 3 more days or 3 more years? So 70 weeks = 70 x 7 days (years) 1 st 7 wks = 7 x 7 days = 49 days (years) That was when the streets and walls would be rebuilt again Another 3 score and 2 weeks = 3 x 20 + 2 = 62 weeks 7 wks + 62 weeks = 69 weeks (Dan 9:25) 70 x 7 = 490 days (years) How often shall I forgive my brother? Jesus said, Not 7 times, but 70 x 7. He was going to forgive them not 490 days, but 490 years so the Jews could complete their mission. Why the Jews? Because through Abraham, all other nations would be blessed. They were to proclaim the Messiah s coming.

Now, when does this prophecy start? At the decree of Artixerxes to rebuild Jerusalem, 457 BC. This is one of the most established dates in the Bible. You read about it in Ezra 7:7 Dan 9:25 25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. 69 wks = 483 literal years later, the Messiah would be anointed or baptized. 69 wks What happened in 27 AD? Jesus was baptized and began his public ministry at age 30. He was baptized in 27 AD. I have heard that Jesus performed no miracles before His baptism. Acts 10:37,38 37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; 38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. Exactly 69 weeks after the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, Jesus carried out His ministry. This prophecy is to me one of the greatest proofs of the divinity of Jesus, and How? Because the time of Jesus baptism and crucifixion were predicted over 400 years before He came. This is no ordinary prophecy. And who does the prophecy point to as the Messiah? Jesus. It s no secret who the real Messiah is. By the way, you ve heard of the 7 yrs of tribulation? Where do they get that? They take the last week of this prophecy, and move it to the end of time. Not good Biblical scholarship. How can it be part of the 69 weeks? What was to happen in the final week of this prophecy? Dan 9:26,27 26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. 3 ½ years and the Messiah was to be cut off. 3 ½ years = 1260 days Have you ever noticed how many times 3 ½ is mentioned in the Bible? It s very interesting. In Revelation, a time, times and half a time a famine in the days of Elijah lasted 3 ½ years

Remember, 1 day = 1 year There were 360 days in the Jewish calendar 3 ½ years = 1260 days At prophecycode.com, you can read about the meaning of different numbers in the Bible. 3 ½ is an interruption of 7 which signifies perfection. 3 ½ years after Christ died, the 1 st martyr died, Stephen. The woman fled into the wilderness for 3 ½ years. Christ preached for 3 ½ years and was crucified. Dan 9:27 He was to confirm the covenant for 1 wk. Who? Many believe it is the Antichrist. (for example, Hal Lindsey in his book, Left Behind) But it s the Messiah, Jesus. v. 25 from the going forth of the command unto Messiah the Prince. Who is this talking about? Jesus. What is the subject of this great prophecy? When is the Messiah coming. Jesus was baptized in AD 27, and then cut off in the midst of the week. [CHART] 483 :baptism: 3 ½ :crucifixion: 3 ½ stoning of Stephen. They were getting ready to offer the sacrifice and what happened? The veil was rent at that same moment. There was a massive earthquake, and graves were opened. BEFORE THE SACRIFICIAL SYSTEM CEASED in 31 AD, the gospel went to the Jews: Mt 10:5,6 5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Later we read, in Mt 21:43: 43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. This would happen after Jesus was rejected by them. Mt 23:38 38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. Mt 24:1,2 1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. Destroy this body (Jesus body, the church body), and in three days I ll raise it up, Jesus said. Destroy a temple made with hands, and in 3 days I ll raise up one made without hands (one that really matters,my body)

What about the last 3 ½ years? Heb 2:3 3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him The gospel did not go out unto the Gentiles until the stoning of Stephen. The covenant was confirmed for another 3 ½ years. It says that they taught in the temple daily. At pentacost - 3000 were baptized The gospel went first to Jerusalem and Judea for 3 ½ years more, then to Samaria and the uttermost parts of the earth. Acts 5 5000 Jews were baptized When did the 70 wk prophecy conclude? Acts 7 Stephen was brought before the Sanhedren. By the way, did you know that the Jews are trying to reassemble the Sanhedren? That came out in an article on the internet. Acts 7:54-58 54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth. 55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, 56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. 57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, 58 And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul They stopped their ears. As a nation, they blew it. The Messiah came and they rejected Him and stoned Stephen. Peter said, You ve crucified the Lord of glory. Acts 7:59,60 59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he fell asleep. Do those words sound familiar? When Jesus was crucified, He said, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. 3 ½ years after Christ s crucifixion, Stephen confirms the covenant in AD 34. Saul was there, and was converted and was sent to the Gentiles. The Jews were not excluded from the gospel, but it was not exclusively for them anymore. Who are God s people? And where is His temple today? Christ s body, His church is the Temple today

He wants to live in our hearts. Gal 3:29 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Rom 9:7,8 7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. 8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. Rom 2:28,29 28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. 1 Pe 2:5 5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. The Temple was destroyed in 70 AD. The Jews no longer had a sacrificial system. Why? Because Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice, and caused the sacrificial system to cease. John 1:29 Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. Now, let s talk about the 2300 days prophecy. Remember 1 day = 1 year And the 70 wks were cut off from the 2300 days. So reckoning from the same starting point, 457 BC, the 2300 days (or years) brings us to the year 1844. What happened in 1844? Dan 8:14 14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed. Now those of us who have been in the Seventh-day Adventist church for a long time know that the first Adventists originally misinterpreted this prophecy to be the time of Christ s second coming. But after their Bitter Disappointment, those who followed in the light of the prophetic word saw that, instead of coming to the earth at the termination of the 2300 days in 1844, Christ then entered the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary to perform the closing work of atonement in preparation of His coming. And as the cleansing of the earthly sanctuary was accomplished by the removal of the sins which had polluted it, so the actual cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary is to be accomplished by the removal, or blotting out, of the sins which are recorded there. But before this can be done, there must be an examination of the books of record to determine who are entitled to the benefits of His atonement, through repentance of sin and faith in Christ. The cleansing of the sanctuary therefore involves a work of investigation--a work of judgment. This work must be

performed prior to the coming of Christ to redeem His people; because when He comes, His reward is with Him to give to every man according to his works. Revelation 22:12. Gc422 Allen pointed out a few weeks ago that the term sanctuary, as used in the Bible, refers, first, to the tabernacle built by Moses, as a pattern of heavenly things; and, secondly, to the "true tabernacle" in heaven, to which the earthly sanctuary pointed. At the death of Christ the sacrificial system ended. The "true tabernacle" in heaven is the sanctuary of the new covenant. And as the prophecy of Daniel 8:14 is fulfilled not 2000 years ago, but only about 160 years ago, the sanctuary to which it refers must be the sanctuary of the new covenant, the heavenly sanctuary. At the termination of the 2300 days, in 1844, there had been no sanctuary on earth for many centuries. Thus the prophecy, "Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed," unquestionably points to the sanctuary in heaven. But perhaps the most important question is: What is the cleansing of the sanctuary? Allen showed us that this service existed with the earthly sanctuary back in the Old Testament. But can there be anything in heaven to be cleansed? I must admit, I can t remember very well, but I believe that Allen discussed how this service takes place in the Heavenly Sanctuary as well. In Hebrews 9 the cleansing of both the earthly and the heavenly sanctuary is shown. Heb 9:11-28 11 When Christ came as high priest of the good things that are already here, [ b ] he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. (Jump to v.22) 22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. 23 It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices (that is, the blood of goats and bulls), but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. What was that better sacrifice? The precious blood of Christ. (v. 24) 24 For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God's presence. 25 Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. 26 Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people The close of the 2300 days, in 1844--began the work of investigation and blotting

out of sins, that is, the judgement. The lives of all who have ever taken upon themselves the name of Christ must be analyzed. Both the living and the dead are to be judged "out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works." Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. Friend, if you have sins that you have not repented of and forsaken, they will not be pardoned and they will still be on the record books in Heaven, bearing witness against you in the judgment. God will not forgive a sin that you have not repented of, but if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrightousness. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Whether sins are committed in the darkness of night, or in the light of day, whether they have been hidden and kept secret from father, mother, wife, children, or associates, they are open before the God of Heaven. He sees all. The darkness of the darkest night, the secrecy of all deceptive arts, is not sufficient to veil one thought from the knowledge of the Eternal. God has an exact record of every unjust account and every unfair dealing. He is not deceived by appearances of piety. He makes no mistakes in His estimation of character. Men may be deceived by those who are corrupt in heart, but God pierces all disguises and reads the inner life. Gc486 The law of God is the standard by which the characters and the lives of men will be tested in the judgment. The wise Solomon once wrote: "Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment." Ecclesiastes 12:13, 14. Gc482 We are now living in the great day of atonement. In that service, while the high priest was making the atonement for Israel, all were required to afflict their souls by repentance of sin and humiliation before the Lord, or they would be cut off from among the people. Similarly today, all who would have their names retained in the book of life should now, in the few remaining days of their probation, afflict their souls before God by sorrow for sin and true repentance. There must be deep, faithful searching of heart. Gc 489 "Watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is." Mark 13:33. "If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee." Revelation 3:3. When the work of the investigative judgment closes, the destiny of all will have been decided for life or death. Probation will end a short time befre Jesus comes appears the clouds. Christ in the Revelation, looking forward to that time, declares: "He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be." Revelation

22:11, 12. The righteous and the wicked will still be living upon the earth in their mortal state-- men will be planting and building, eating and drinking, all unconscious that the final, irrevocable decision has been pronounced in the sanctuary above. Before the Flood, after Noah entered the ark, God shut him in and shut the ungodly out; but for seven days the people, knowing not that their doom was fixed, continued their careless, pleasure-loving life and mocked the warnings of impending judgment. "So," says the Saviour, "shall also the coming of the Son of man be." Matthew 24:39. Silently, unnoticed as the midnight thief, will come the decisive hour which marks the fixing of every man's destiny, the final withdrawal of mercy's offer to guilty men. "Watch ye therefore:... lest coming suddenly He find you sleeping." Mark 13:35, 36. Perilous is the condition of those who, growing weary of their watch, turn to the attractions of the world. While the man of business is absorbed in the pursuit of gain, while the pleasure lover is seeking indulgence, while the daughter of fashion is arranging her adornments--it may be in that hour the Judge of all the earth will pronounce the sentence: "Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting." Daniel 5:27. Gc491 Esau was the firstborn son. But he traded his birthright for a bowl of porridge. We are children of the promise. Let us not trade our birthright for a bowl of earthly porridge. When we know God as it is our privilege to know Him, our life will be a life of continual obedience. Through an appreciation of the character of Christ, through communion with God, sin will become hateful to us. Da668 We can see the signs of the last days now like never before. Just in the last year, hundreds of thousands have perished in a tsunami, several hurricanes, war, and more recently, an earthquake that claimed over 40,000 lives. Luke 21:10 10 Then he said to them: "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. Luke 21:25 On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. 26 Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world Does that sound like what is happening in the world today? Luke 21:27 27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." We have been told that the final events would be rapid ones. Jesus came right on time the first time fulfilling the prophecy of Daniel 9. Will He come right on time the second time? He wants you to be ready. Do you want to be ready? Let us pray. Father in Heaven, Thank you for the truth. Make us temples of your spirit. Dwell in us and make us children of the promise because we want to be in your kingdom where your presence is. Help us to be ready when Jesus comes. Be with these people. Bless them in their families and in their spirits and help them to experience your forgiveness and eternal life. In Jesus name, Amen
