Rev. Mike Winters Pastor Leigh Clark Minister of Music & Youth Dr. Ray Jones, Jr. Pastor Emeritus WISE BAPTIST NEWS A PUBLICATION FOR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF WISE BAPTIST CHURCH A place for faith and fellowship with family and friends. Dear church family and friends, What is the church? It is more than a building or place. It is more than the pastor or any leader(s). The church is the people of God. We saw that in our own church recently. While Terry and I visited our daughter and son-in-law in San Francisco, a dear church member, Don Farmer died. Also, Marty Kennedy s father, was in Intensive Care in Johnson City Memorial Hospital. Special thanks and appreciation to Leigh for her ministry to the Farmer and Kennedy families. It was all the more difficult because Don was there every Wednesday for choir practice and also each Sunday to sing in the choir. Thanks also to Mike Osborne, for preaching on May 1. It is not easy to preach in one s home church, but God used him. Thanks also to Jim Collie for conducting the funeral service for Don Farmer. This is just one example of his faithful and consistent ministry over many years. I also appreciate countless others serving behind the scenes. We are very blessed at Wise Baptist Church. It takes all of us to be the church! You are invited to be an active part of our church fellowship. From Leigh May 11 Ron Swindall It was an emotional week for me personally and professionally. I lost a dear friend. Even more difficult than that was knowing that Donna lost her dad, Bobbie lost her husband of 62 years and Elora and Jayda lost their grandfather. It always hurts to see those we love hurting. Grief is a process and it looks different for all of us. Part of my grief process was planning the choir anthems, choosing a scripture, writing my comments and prayer for the service. I definitely felt God s presence and guidance all along the way. Graduation is also an emotional time for me because I have invested a lot of time, energy, and love in all of these young people. I have watched them grow physically and spiritually even leading some of them to a salvation decision and Baptism. I am Mama Leigh to a lot of kids especially those who grew up with Aaron and Anna. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing our youth being encouraged and affirmed by our WBC family. I hope you enjoyed getting to meet via video on Sunday, Bishop Dixon, Deacon Fred, and Ms. Dee from the Greater Faith Baptist Fellowship. They are wonderful people. This congregation is so excited about our mission team coming to help them with some much needed renovations for their building. Our group is getting excited as well! Thank you to everyone who donated, bought or sold treasures at the Yard Sale. Over $4000 was raised to help offset our costs for the mission trip. There are not enough words to thank Sherlene Hall for the countless hours she spent pricing, moving and cleaning all of the donations. She had some great helpers! Thank you! I would also like to especially thank Debbie Collins and Jessica Crutchfield for their leadership with the Bake Sale. Everything looked beautiful and I am sure it was all delicious! So many people donated baked goods thank you! I am praying for you this week; pray for each other, too. Blessings, Leigh MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR JUNE 19!
