Green Initiatives In past year, VCDC has changed how inmate supplies are distributed: Change to reusable containers (linen or plastic) instead of paper bags. With approximately 20 housing areas and the supplies that accompany each meal, the three-times daily change in distribution procedures is significant. Change to low-use paper towel dispenser in staff restrooms. Chemicals used in the building are green. In past several years, working with FPL, installed low flush valves in all toilets, showers, and sinks in both institutions. In past several years also installed more energy-efficient lights in all housing, program, and office areas. 27 NEW TECHNOLOGIES Corrections, as part in the ICJIS project, has recently installed a new stateof-the art Jail Management System. The new system integrate functions such as booking, case management, mugshot and fingerprints, incident reporting, inmate banking, visitation scheduling and reports. Major technological advancements include electronic inmate tracking using bar-coded wristbands, remote electronic tracking using hand-held PDAs, and inmate kiosks.
