ST. MARY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION Dear Parishioners: Here is an update on St. Mary Parish Pastoral Council. Four of our current members Jesse Feldpausch, Russ Long, Loren Kirchner, and Diane Welshhans will conclude their terms this month. Since Jesse and his family recently have been in transition geographically, Bill Studenic (who was on the ballot last year) graciously stepped in to fulfill Jesse s cycle. Several weeks ago, we announced the opening of nominations for council representatives. Originally, five names were received, which includes Mr. Studenic. However, one individual from among those five declined. Therefore, since the number of nominees matches the number of openings, a ballot is unnecessary. Nevertheless, we do not want to function on anonymity; therefore, in this issue, please find brief bios and photos of our four new council representatives. Thank you to parishioners for your input! Thank you to our new representatives for accepting the call: Marjean Kearney, Dave Siciliana, Jocelyn Stefancin, and Bill Studenic. Again, please read their biographical sketches in this issue, and please hold the council regularly in your prayers, We have received very constructive feedback, related to our recent parish mission. We are grateful to Deacon Robin Adair, from St. Augustine in Barberton and Guardian Angels in Copley, for his insights. The Taize prayer service, which comprised the first night of the mission, was exceptionally well-received. It is my hope that we will be able to offer this kind of prayer service several times throughout the course of a year. People truly valued the opportunity for stillness and meditation. Thank you to Mrs. Kathy Gorman, our Kindergarten teacher, and the St. Mary School Social Justice Club, for hosting a beautiful prayer service this past Wednesday, for Peace in Our Schools and in Our World. It provided a wonderful framework for forming the voices and hearts of our young people. We are quickly approaching Holy Week. Therefore, I want to refresh awareness of some pertinent events and times, even while these have appeared in other sources. On Holy Thursday, we once again will host a potluck meal in the Activity Center (gym) as a prelude to the Mass of the Lord s Supper [details in this issue]. We welcome parishioners who have been participating in the CRS Ricebowl almsgiving project to begin to bring them in next weekend, Palm Sunday of the Lord s Passion. Those who are attending the Mass on Holy Thursday are encouraged to bring their rice-bowls with them on that evening. Please make note of the additional opportunities for Confession, in Holy Week. ST. MARY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION WOOSTER, OH ST. MARY PARISH COUNCIL NEW MEMBERS! Please meet and welcome our newest members to our St. Mary Parish Council: Marjean Kearney I was born in Wooster to Marcelline Grassman, long-time parishioner at St. Mary s. I am one of seven girls and have been a life long member of St. Mary church. I attended St. Mary School through the eighth grade, then graduated from Wooster High School. I am now the proud mother of seven children (6 boys and 1 girl) who also attended St. Mary School and I am blessed to have 9 grandchildren. I have been a registered nurse for 38 years and I am currently employed at the main campus of Cleveland Clinic and have been with the Clinic for the past 30 years. In addition to being a Eucharist Adoration participant for the past 4 years, I enjoy bicycle riding, camping, hiking, gardening, canning, cooking, baking, hanging clothes outside and doing laundry. But most of all, I love spending time with family and playing with the grandchildren. Jocelyn Stefancin I moved to Ohio in 1987 to continue my education after graduating from Washington & Jefferson College. I received my Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve School of Law in May, 1990. I have one daughter, Tricia who was born in 1993 and baptized at St. Michael s Church in Akron. We joined St. Mary s Church after my divorce in 1998. Tricia attended St. Mary s School from Kindergarten through 8th grade and she was an active participant at Teen Mass on Sunday evenings and served as a Cantor during Mass. I was raised in the Catholic faith. My family (grandparents, aunts and uncles) attended Mass together every Sunday in my hometown of Uniontown, PA. I am a member of a Small Church group that has allowed me to grow in my faith and has been a wonderful experience. Dave Siciliano I have been a member of St. Mary s parish for five years and I am currently employed at the J. M. Smucker Co. as a Senior Scientist in Technical Services. In addition, I retired from the Air Force Reserves in 2013 with 23 years of service. I am married to my wife, Tammy and we have two children: Nick (21 years old) and Madelyn (11 years old) and a rescued cat named Mitchell. Bill Studenic Our family became parishioners at St. Mary's 30 years ago and my love for this active and vibrant parish community has led me to believe I am well suited to join the Parish Council. I recently retired from Bogner Construction, was a PSR teacher for 17 years, and served as a Pre-Cana mentor couple (along with my wife Kathy) for 25 years. As a member of the Knights of Columbus I was the Faithful Navigator for our local Msgr. Hannon Assembly #843 and Fourth Degree Master for Ohio District One (Cleveland and Youngstown Dioceses). My wife, Kathy and I currently participate in Eucharistic Adoration, a devotion that has strengthened my relationship with our Almighty Father immensely. I am filling a vacancy left by Jesse Feldpausch on Parish Council. I'm extremely grateful for this opportunity and I look forward to continuing to serving St. Mary's Parish as a member of the Parish Council. 6
