Pedone after 11:30 Mass June 16 - Kick-Off Dinner for our Italian Festival Saint Benedict Institute The Monks of Saint Benedict Abbey, Still River, MA are excited to announce that, with the assistance of a generous donor, we have initiated our First Annual Saint Benedict Institute, a week-long intensive study program for men pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies. It will take place August 19-25 at Saint Benedict Abbey, Still River, MA and is totally free of charge. The Institute will begin with focus on Masters of the Monastic Tradition, this year commencing with the thought and writings of Saint Augustine. The purpose of the Saint Benedict Institute is to share the wealth of our Catholic Tradition within an environment of a living monastic community whose life is centered on prayer, lectio and work according to the Rule of Saint Benedict. See Deacon Paul if you would like a brochure that gives more information about the Institute. The Faith of Easter and Pentecost The times, not just ours, but all times, tempt us to despair, to shriek, Things are finally going over a cliff! But, with half an ear open, we can hear God proclaim, Nonsense! We are on the brink of the best of times! If we even catch the faintest glimpse what God has in store for humanity, we will scoff at despair and begin anew, joyfully every day. No matter our faith or lack thereof, we can be filled with Easter confidence that death never has the final word. Don t Miss These Symbolisms at Your Next Mass By Joby Provido As Catholics who have gone to countless Masses, we know the order of the different parts of the Mass, and the responses to the priest s prompts come quite instinctively. But most Catholics might miss the symbolisms built in the liturgy because, well, we never knew they were there. Listed here are come of those symbols in words, objects, and gestures. 1st in a Series The Nave The nave is the large space in front of the altar where the congregations stays. The word nave comes from the Latin navis that means ship. The Church uses this word to describe itself metaphorically because she is like a ship that brings us safely from this world to the next just as the Ark did for Noah and his family. If you are in a gothic church, look at the ceiling because its exposed beams look like the keel of a wooden ship for the same reason. How about making a Cursillo weekend? Cursillo or short course in Christianity is an uplifting and educational experience. Weekends are held at the Immaculate Conception Spiritual Renewal Center in Putnam, CT.
