The Christmas Choir Donation Concert is to spread cheer & celebrate what the season is all about. Write a small note in the book about why you chose it and what you love about it; wrap it up, but leave it unmarked. We will do a book exchange and everyone will go home with someone s favorite book! WEEKLY MUSIC EVENTS Wednesdays, Voice Community Choir Rehearsal The One Voice Community Choir aspires to expand, redefine, & perfect the choral arts through eclectic performances that honor & uplift the LGBT community & their allies & affirm the worth of all people in the eyes of God. The choir was formed to give people of faith within the LGBT community & allies a place where they can come together to share their talents. We are a non-audition & no-experience-required choir. All are welcome! If you would like to join our choir, we rehearse on Wednesdays at Christ UMC (2375 E 3300 S). CHILDREN S MINISTRIES Sundays at Church School Children in grades K-3 rd are invited to room 10 for a scripture-based lesson, games, and crafts, every Sunday during worship. Sundays, All are invited to be a part of a small group to study the book Welcoming the Stranger by Matthew Soerens & Jenny Yang. This book examines immigration policies & politics today & historically, as well as a Christian response to the immigration dilemma. Meeting in room 1. Tuesdays, 11:00am at You are invited to gather with others in a time of focused prayer; these gatherings last about 45 minutes. Meeting in the prayer room at CPC. Children in grades 4 or higher are invited to participate in a fun Route 66 class that takes us through all 66 books of the Bible, on the 3 rd and 4 th Sundays of the month. Sun 12/9, 7:00pm at All Saints: Taizé Vespers Vigil to End Gun Violence A meditative, music-filled evening liturgy with songs from Taizé, scripture, & time for silence & prayer. All are welcome! Second Sunday of each month. Our December Taizé vespers will be held in conjunction with Utah s Interfaith vigil to end gun violence. Meditative, musical service with music from Taizé, meditation, & readings. A brief reception will follow. The Gun Violence Prevention Center of Utah will be available to chat & have information.

M I N I S T R Y, A D V O C A C Y & A C T I O N MINISTRY & SERVICE IN ACTION Tue 12/4, 1:00pm-2:30pm at CPC Prayer Shawl Do you knit or crochet, or want to learn how? Bring yourself and your friends for needlework and friendship. Make prayer shawls for hospice patients and for distribution by our Deacons to members and friends of our congregation. Yarn is available for you to use. If you don t know how to knit or crochet, we will teach you! Please come and add to our group and our community service. Tue 12/11, 4:30pm-7:30pm: Laundry Love Free laundry with love from All Saints Episcopal Church; at Century Laundry (910 W North Temple) the second Tuesday of the month. FUNDRAISERS & DRIVES Sat 12/8, 9:00am-2:00pm: Blood Drive Held in the gym at First Congregational Church (2150 S Foothill Drive). Christmas Drive for Mothers & Children at Valley Phoenix Treatment Center This Christmas season, Cottonwood s Mission Committee will again sponsor Christmas for the mothers and children at Valley Phoenix Treatment Center. Buying opportunities will be available in Cottonwood s Fellowship room after Sunday services. Wrapped gifts can be brought to the church by the Sunday before Christmas (Sun 12/23). Mitten Tree Drive for South Valley Sanctuary & Road Home The Mitten Tree will once again be in the entrance of Cottonwood Presbyterian for you to hang your generous donations. Mittens are welcome, and we are also asking for socks to be donated. Women s and children s socks will go to the South Valley Sanctuary for victims of domestic violence, and men s socks will go to the Road Home. QUIET SERVICES & VIGILS Sun 12/9, 7:00pm at All Saints: Taizé Vespers Vigil to #endgunviolence Our December Taizé vespers will be held in conjunction with Utah s Interfaith vigil to end gun violence. Meditative, musical service with music from Taizé, meditation, & readings. A brief reception will follow. The Gun Violence Prevention Center of Utah will be available to chat & have information. Thu 12/20, 7:00pm at Christ UMC: Quiet Christmas Service Candle-lit, meditative worship service where we remember those whom we ve lost, pray for those who are ill or struggling, and light candles of hope. All are welcome. Christmas Gifts for Teens and Seniors Christmas gifts for teens and seniors, who are often forgotten for gift giving, can be left under the Christmas tree in the Sanctuary of Cottonwood Presbyterian Church for the Mission Committee to deliver. These will go to the Salvation Army or to Candy Cane Corner. They would appreciate new clothing items, toys, games, or household items. COMPASSIONATE FRIENDS GROUP Sun 12/9, 6:30pm at Zion: Compassionate Friends Candle Lighting & Potluck Supporting families who have lost children. Tue 12/11 7:00pm at Zion: Compassionate Friends Support A support group for parents who have lost children; meets monthly on the 2nd Tuesday.

We will be celebrating the sacrament of communion. NEW ART EXHIBIT Now through 1/5/19 at Come Holy Spirit Art Exhibit A new art exhibit graces the hallways of Cottonwood Presbyterian Church now through January 5. Participating artists were asked to think about the following: When, where, how, and why have you called on the Holy Spirit? What scripture about the Holy Spirit inspires you and your art? We hope these expressions by artists will stimulate your own thinking about how the Holy Spirit manifests in your life. WORSHIP SCHEDULE CHANGES Sun 12/30 at Christ UMC: one service at 10:00am We will have one worship service, and there will be no Sunday School for children and youth on this day. Regular programming will resume on Sunday, January 6. Sun 12/30 at Zion: one service at 10:30am All other Sundays in December will have two worship services as usual (8:15am & 10:30am). UPCOMING WORSHIP THEMES & TOPICS Cottonwood Presbyterian Church December worship: Through December, we will focus our attention on the traditional themes of the Advent Wreath candles: Hope, Love, Joy, Peace, and Christ/Savior. We will celebrate the sacrament of communion on 12/2 & on Christmas Day.
