Dotting the i Saturday, November 1 st, a Brethren alumnus will be featured in The Ohio State University world renowned marching band. Johnny Kilbane ( 08) will dot the i in Ohio during the pregame show with his sousaphone! The Big Ten matchup with Illinois is scheduled to be on ABC and ESPN3 at 5:00 Pacific Time. Speaking of Football. What about those mighty Warriors? Aren t they great!! October 30 th was the final regular season game for the Warriors. It was an exciting seesaw ride of a game, in which the Warriors won 35-29 in the last 44 seconds of the game!!! From the desk of Principal Rick Niswonger : Brethren Christian High School quarterback Conner Miller now holds the Orange County alltime record for touchdown passes in a season. He has thrown 42 touchdown passes in 10 games. The old record was 41 thrown in 14 games (playoffs count). Last night s win puts BC in the playoffs, so Conner has a chance to extend the record. Orange County has produced several NFL Quarterbacks over the years. Mark Sanchez, Matt Barkley and Matt Leinart come to mind, so this is no trivial accomplishment! Of course you have to have quality receivers to catch all those passes and BCHS has several. Guy Demazeliere is Conner s primary target. Guy is currently tied for career touchdown receptions in the OC with 39. One more in the playoffs will make him the all-time leader. That one more touchdown reception would also tie him for the all-time record for a single season. Perhaps even more significant is that Guy is 7 th in career touchdown receptions in all of the CIF- Southern Section. Before you let that statistic fall out of your consciousness consider the magnitude of the CIF Southern Section: It serves over 800,000 students in nearly 600 schools. The average CIF-SS high school has about 1300 students. BCHS 9-12 enrollment is 236 The CIF Southern Section began in... 1913 (Woodrow Wilson was in the first year of his presidency, World War 1 was still four years away!) And finally... it ain t over! Go WARRIORS! Watch for the playoff schedule at BCHS.net. Come out and cheer on your team!! I guarantee that you will see someone you know at the game. 2014 Eyeglass Collection Drive Some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him Jesus put His hands on the man s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly." Mark 8:22-25 NIV Again this year, BC students collected pairs of eyeglasses to be recycled to underprivileged individuals by the local HB Lions Club. The total number collected were 1,354!!!

Two representatives from the Lions Club were at Chapel this week. They shared with our students how many of last year s glasses were distributed at an orphanage in Thailand. As a result of our collaboration with the Lions Club, they came out to last month s Pancake Breakfast & Book Sale fundraiser for our band programs, with all their pancake grills and did the pancake flippin. They are a great group and we appreciate their support and friendship! Alumni Veterans If you are an Alumni of Brethren and have served in the military, we would like to invite you to our Veterans Day Appreciation Breakfast & Chapel. This is a great morning of fellowship, followed by a special time of worship, planned by the Brethren students, to honor your service. It will be Wednesday, November 12, 2014 from 8:45am 10:15am If you cannot attend, we would ask you to send a photo of yourself (in uniform, if possible) with your name, years attended Brethren, branch of service and rank and name of any war/conflict that you participated in. Please submit this as soon as possible, no later than November 4 th, to allow time for the video presentation to be compiled. Send to: BCHSsaltandlight@gmail.com. RSVP for breakfast and Chapel to: Jransom@bchs.net if you plan to attend or have questions. Family and friends are welcome to join you! Tutors (still) Needed The school is looking for tutors to assist current students. This is an ideal job for Brethren graduates, who are attending college in the local area or retired folks. The pay is $20 per hour. Help is needed during Homework club hours, from 2:45 until 4:45pm weekdays. Some private, in-home opportunities may also be available. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity please contact JMartes@bchs.net. Read Through The Bible Won t you join in with the Bible reading program!! We read a chapter from God's Word each week day. Principal Rick Niswonger has developed a wonderful reading schedule for us to follow. We are almost all of the way through this year s program. By December 31st, we will have read about 25% of the Bible. He has selected sections of scripture that relate to holidays and other observances, as they occur on our calendar. We are reading through many of the major stories and key doctrinal passages. I hope you will consider joining us. It will be fun to have a common point of discussion, as we grow in our knowledge of God this year! November brings us to the book of Ephesians. Here is the web page link with a printable checklist: http://www.bchs.net/ourpages/auto/2013/12/13/45913746/bcbiblereadingplan2014-03-18update.pdf. You definitely need this to follow the Planned Route. Spread the Good News

A friend of mine recently wrote to me something I thought was worthwhile to pass on to you, my friends. I was talking to a man in church this Sunday and he told me that he had trouble talking to people about Christ and when he does is often met with hostility. I told him that I witness all of the time, and it has been extremely rare that I m ever met with ANY hostility from anyone. Most welcome the conversation. I recommended that he never condemn or judge, and instead be inquisitive. I suggested that the next time that he softly, and ask the person what their spiritual beliefs are. If they respond that they are an atheist, agnostic, a Muslim, Buddhist or whatever, he should ask them, If you were wrong, would you want to know? My experience is that few people will refuse to engage you in further conversation when asked that question. Of course they would want to know if they were wrong when something affects their eternal future. I use it all of the time to break the ice. After that opening, it does take knowledge of some Scripture and perhaps some training, but it is readily available. The best system that I ve ever seen used is that of evangelist Bill Fay. It takes little time to learn and is very effective. You can access it here and Bill has tons of books, and tracts available on the web --- just Google him. http://web001.rbc.org/pdf/discovery-series/how-can-i-share-my-faith-without-an-argument.pdf When you die and go to heaven, it will be great to see all of those folks that you led to Jesus. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to see all of those who you led to Christ surrounded by all of those that they led to Christ, surrounded by all of those that they led to Christ and... Isaiah reveals how God looks at those of us who share our faith in the verse below. Don t miss out on your blessing. Witnessing to others is one sure sign that your salvation is secure... Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns! Simply visit www.smile.amazon.com to select Brethren Christian Junior & Senior High School to receive a donation every time you make a purchase via Amazon. Thanks for your support! Target Red Card For all you Target shoppers, you can select Brethren Christian Junior & Senior High School to benefit from a donation from Target and save 5% on your Target purchases, when you make your

purchase with either the Target debit card or credit card. Our ID # is 18680. We received a check for $1,375 recently from the Red Card program. Go Green and Recycle for Brethren Christian If you live locally, you may be interested to know that BCHS has an account at the Orange Coast College Recycling Center. All you need to do is take all your CRV cans and bottles to the OCC Recycling Center. When you go to the cashier to cash out, tell them to put the money on the "Brethren Christian Baseball Team Account". It's already all set up. The Center is located on Adams Ave. in Costa Mesa, between Harbor Blvd. and Fairview Rd. It faces Adams Ave. on the OCC campus. It s only about 5 minutes from the school. This is a very easy way to raise money for the school, while being a good steward of the earth s resources. The recycling center will write a check to the school. Buying or Selling a Home? Or do you know someone who is? Brethren Christian has partnered with Community Funding Solutions to be an associate in their No Cost Giving program. The program has affiliated with area realtors, who have agreed to give 20% of their sales commission to the school, for any client referred to them by using the attached link. If you, or someone you know is looking to buy or sell a home, condo or townhouse, be sure to have them check out the No Cost Giving program. Just follow the link below http://communityfundingsolutions.com/pages/charity_profile/2132. Bring in your Boxtops for Education Keep a Boxtops Baggie in your kitchen drawer and ask your family and friends to do the same. Boxtops can be dropped off in the office or mailed to the school. We submit twice each year - in October and April. Several alumni mail us boxtops they have collected. Last year, the school benefited by over $600! Matching Gifts We have received a matching gift through the Southern California Foundation DOUBLING the gift of our donor!! Many employers will match your gifts to a charitable institution. Check with your HR Department or personnel office at work to see if they participate in a program like this. We have a list of companies who match gifts in the literature rack in the office. It can also be mailed to you. This is a great way to increase the benefit of your gift. BCHS has an IRS 501(3)(c) non-profit designation. Call Janine Ransom at 714-962-6617 ext. 25. Thank you for your donations to the benefit of this important ministry! Business Owners

Would you like to advertise your business to the greater school community? Your company logo can be placed on the BCHS home page with a direct link to your business web site. Current visits to our home page are totaling over 20,000 per month! Go to www.bchs.net and click on the Sponsor our School tab on the left side. The form and information are all there for you. If you have questions, please contact Janine Ransom at (714) 962-6617 x25 or jransom@bchs.net. Current Contact Information Please take a moment either to sign up on the Alumni Directory (see article below) or email any changes to jransom@bchs.net so we can update our records! We occasionally receive calls asking why some are not receiving materials from Brethren. We only know you ve moved when you (or your mom) let us know! Please help us keep our files current. We desire to be good stewards of the resources God blesses us with. Thank you for any help you can provide. (FYI: We generally only do four mailings each year two issues of Brethren Magazine, the fall Homecoming announcement postcard and the year-end annual fund letter.) Alumni Directory Updates Thank you all for your help in keeping the school directories up-to-date! This makes all the difference to the planning committees for reunions and other gatherings. The Alumni Directory is available to you at our school website, under the Alumni tab. Because it is public, the school prefers not to automatically place your information online, but we invite you to register on the school s web site s Alumni Section at http://www.bchs.net/apps/directory/. This is the BEST way to help us keep our records up-to-date. We especially would like to add your e- mail address to our data base. If you don t see your friends listed there, why not give them a call and invite them to join or just forward them this email?? When a new or revised entry is placed, I check it to see if any address or email has changed. If it has, then I make updates to the reunion and alumni files for you no need to email separately. Thank you for your help!! Facebook Members Facebook members may join the Official BCHS Alumni Group and stay up-to-date on events, alumni and friends. We now have 1,088 group members!
