I L VE MY BIBLE! 7 All Staff Pre-Class Gd s Wrd is BREAD Arrange tables and chairs. Pray fr tday s class. Have music playing. Welcme kids as they arrive and begin taking attendance. MEMY WK LARGE GROUP Chse activities t help students begin learning the bks f the Bible. T aid in memrizatin, use the Bks f the Bible Demnstratin Bard. Several f the fllwing activities use Bks f the Bible Cards. Bk Order Races Frm teams and have them race using the Old r New Testament bk cards t see which team can put them in rder mre quickly. Deal ut the Old r New Testament bk cards t all the students. Time the class t see hw lng it takes them t put the cards in rder (n the flr at the frnt f the rm). Repeat and have them try t beat the previus time. (Recrd their best time s that they can try t beat it next week.) Old r New Have a student draw a randm card frm the deck and call ut the name f the bk. Then chse a student t say whether the bk is in the Old r New Testament. If crrect, he/she gets t draw the next card. Display the Bks f the Bible Demnstratin Bard at the frnt f the classrm. Have students stand in a line (r if yu have a larger class, just have them stand at their seats) facing the bard. Make sure cards are mixed up, and then have a student begin turning cards and calling ut their names. If the bk called is frm the Old Testament, students take a step tward their left; if it is frm the New Testament, they take a step tward their right (since, as they are facing the Bks f the Bible Demnstratin Bard, the Old Testament is n their left and the New n their right). Let the student-caller draw and call several cards; then chse a new caller. Cntinue in this manner as yu have time r until yu have gne thrugh all the Bible bk cards. Frm tw teams. Have a member f each team cme t the frnt f the class. Randmly chse a card frm the deck and call ut the name f the bk. As quickly as pssible, each team member calls ut Old r New. Award a pint fr the speediest crrect answer (r award each crrect answer a pint). Cntinue, having a new player frm each team cme t the frnt. Musical Bks Seat kids in a circle. Chse cards f cnsecutive bks f the Bible equal t the number f players. Mix up the cards and give ne t each player. As the music plays, players pass the cards arund the circle. When the music stps, whever has the first bk in the series places his card in the center f the circle and is ut f the game. Play resumes until all the cards have been placed in rder. The last persn t place a card gets t chse the next cards used in the game.

Callut-Repeat Call ut 3-5 bks (e.g., Genesis, Exdus, Leviticus ) at a time and have students repeat them. Repeat the callut-respnse several times. Then call ut the next 3-5 bks and have them repeat thse. VARIATION: Have a student lead the callut. Pass the Beanbag (r Ball) Have students stand r sit in a circle. Pass a beanbag (it can t rll away like a ball). As each persn receives the beanbag, he/she names the next bk f the Bible (start wherever yu d like). Have the entire grup call ut the next bk as each persn receives the beanbag. VARIATION: Frm time t time call ut Freeze. The persn hlding the beanbag must name the next three bks in rder. Befre r After Randmly chse a card frm either the Old r New Testament deck. Dn t let the students see the card. Have them try t guess the name f the bk n the card by randmly naming a bk. If the card yu re hlding cmes befre the bk guessed, say Befre. If it cmes after the bk guessed, say After. Keep narrwing it dwn until smene guesses the crrect bk. Memry (Cncentratin) Game Chse several pairs f identical bk cards frm tw Old r New Testament decks. Mix the cards and lay them ut in a grid n the flr r a table. Have students take turns turning ver tw cards at a time, trying t find matches. If a match is fund, the student gets t hld the cards. (Althugh in nrmal memry game rules the player gets anther turn after finding a match, we usually have play pass t the next player.) The player with the mst pairs at the end wins. Variatin: Break int several smaller grups instead f playing with the whle grup. Sing the Bks Sing the Old Testament Sng and/r the New Testament Sng. Have a student pint (with a pinter r play swrd) t the names f the bks as the grup sings. Repeat several times with different students pinting. Sing Memry Wrk Sngs Several f the verses students are memrizing (during small-grup memry wrk time) have been set t music. Frm time t time, sing these sngs during largegrup time. (Visuals can be fund in the tubs with the students memry wrk flders.) Memrize Psalm 1 by repeating it tgether each week befre ging t small-grup time. Display a psterbard with the wrds. Use actins t aid in memrizatin (see back f Psalm 1 psterbard). Frm time t time discuss the verall meaning f the passage and what specific wrds mean, such as: blessed (happy), cunsel (advice), ungdly (withut Gd, sinful), scrnful (thse wh mck and are disrespectful), delight (enjyment, happiness), meditate (think abut, pnder), wither (dry up, die), whatsever (whatever), prsper (succeed, d well), chaff (dry uter cvering that is separated frm grain), judgment (time when Gd judges), cngregatin (gathering f peple), righteus (right with Gd), and perish (die, cme t nthing). (T cut dwn n nise and cnfusin, tw grups may leave the rm t practice verses in anther classrm, the hallway, etc.) Wrk with each student n a list f Bible verses that yu wuld like him/her t memrize. Allw students t wrk at their wn pace (e.g., lder kids nt held back by yunger), keeping track f their prgress n charts r in wrkbks. We use wrkbks entitled Quick and Pwerful Scriptural Cncepts fr Children by Valda Jhnsn and Ilene Sargeant, rdered thrugh Pentecstal Publishing Huse. In these, students memrize a set f six verses at a time, quting them ne at a time, then tw at a time, then three at a time, etc., until they are ready t test n all six at nce. Als allw time fr the kids t qute the names f the bks f the Old and Testaments in rder as they learn them, as well as Psalm 1. Remind students that there will be prizes fr thse wh memrize.
