TRADITIONAL WORSHIP SERVICE ORDER TENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME BUILD Prepare for the Word June 10, 2018 What, in your mind, best represents God s family? Like Everybody Else 1 Samuel 4:4-20 Traditional Service (11:00am) The question of who is king is a question of trust. Let the journey to the Messiah begin. Far Fetched Family Mark 3:31-35 Hawfields Alive! (6:00pm) What makes us family is riddled with mutual intention: our will joining with God s. PRELUDE PROCESSIONAL, & CANDLELIGHTING WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS INTROIT To Him Who Sits on the Throne *CALL TO WORSHIP (based on Proverbs 3:1-6) God calls to us from all that would distract us to our common task: to worship God. Let us draw our hearts and minds together for the true audience in this moment: God. Leader: God calls to us: My sons and daughters, don t forget my instruction. Let your heart guard my commands. People: Because they will help us live a long time and provide us with well-being. Leader: God says: Don t let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Bind them on your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. People: Then we will find favor and approval in the eyes of God and humanity. Leader: We must trust in the Lord with all our heart; and not rely on our own intelligence. People: Let us know God in all our paths, and God will keep our ways straight. *HYMN OF PRAISE O Worship the King #104 *CALL TO CONFESSION We confess our sins because we should. God forgives because God chooses. Let us live into God s mercy and confess our sins together. *PRAYER OF CONFESSION Lord God. We say that all the time: Lord. But the plain reality is that we replace you in our hearts often. We trade your priorities for our priorities, even someone else s. We trade your will for our lives for our own will. We trade your vision for all
of history for our own limited view. We trade your provision for peace, for healing, for hope, and embrace instead our own forms of unrest, of wounds, and of mistrust of the future. Remind us, O God, that you are in charge. Remind us, Great God, that you are trustworthy. Remind us, Lord God, that you are Lord of all and help us to be prone to obey. We pray this together as one in the name of the One, Jesus Christ, who gave us his life ANTHEM: Every Time I Feel the Spirit SHARE Response to the Word #815 SILENT PRAYER *ASSURANCE OF PARDON Leader: God was not only at work back at the early Church, but also now! The Spirit of God is still changing hearts and fashioning the world. My brothers and sisters in Christ, believe the good news of the Gospel: People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! Leader: The peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you. Leader: The peace of the Christ be with us all! People: Amen! *SUNG RESPONSE Glory Be To The Father (Gloria Patri) #813 PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION The reason is simple: to understand God s Word, we need God s help and so we pray: We seek your help, O God, because we need it and you offer it. Now that we ve asked for it, help us stop trying to understand in our own strength. Amen. GROW Proclamation of the Word OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: 1 Samuel 8:4-20 p. 218 Leader: The Word of the Lord! People: Thanks be to God! 2 *In body or spirit please stand CHILDREN S SERMON I m in Charge
