The Apple of God s Eye Junior Learner s Manual March 2, 2014 Lesson Objective Bible Principle Parallel Passage Love Songs to God Psalms 17:7-9; 36:7-10; 63:1-9; 117:2; 119:76 Loving-kindness is God s goodness, mercy and grace. God chooses to love us even when we are unlovable. He is willing to forgive us when we ask Him. David described the loving-kindness of God in many of the psalms he wrote. Many of David s psalms were love songs to God. He praised God for His loving-kindness He ex pressed toward him. I will describe the lovingkindness of God. God s people should praise Him because of His lovingkindness. A Praiseworthy God Psalm 145:17-21 Memory Verse: My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord. Psalm 145:21 In Psalm 17:7 David said God s lovingkindness is marvelous when He saves His children from those who would harm them. David asked God to keep him as the apple of His eye. He wanted God to hide him under the shadow of His wings God s safe place. David wanted God to protect him in His safe place in the way a hen spreads her wings over her baby chicks to protect them. David said in Psalm 36:7 that people put their trust in God because His lovingkindness is excellent. He loved us before we loved Him. He gave His only Son to die for our sins. His way of salvation is excellent. In Psalm 63:3 David vowed to praise God because having His loving-kindness was better than having life on earth. God s love and kindness will last forever. God saves us to live with Him forever in Heaven, not on the earth. In Psalm 117:2 David encouraged others to praise the Lord because God s lovingkindness is great toward us. We can speak our praise in prayer and testimony to others. David prayed to God in Psalm 119:76 and asked God to let His merciful kindness comfort him. We can get comfort from knowing God loves us and is watching over us. The spiritual relationship that honors God the most in your life is your personal relationship with Him. He is interested in your welfare. He takes close notice of where you are, what you are doing and saying. He is watchful over you to see that you are safe. He loves you and is gracious toward you. You, too, are the apple of God s eye! 3 Lesson 1
A Love Letter to God God s loving-kindness is His goodness, mercy and grace. He loves us even when we are unlovable. We cannot understand why God loved us enough to give His Son to die for us. We are not good. We do not deserve His love. But we can be happy He did love us and is kind to us anyway. Choose words from the Word List. Use the words in a letter of praise to God for His lovingkindness toward you. Imitating God s Kind ness We often have opportunities to show kindness to others. We can say kind words. We can do kind deeds. We show our appreciation to God for His loving-kindness to us by being kind to others. The things you do in your life tell if you are imitating God s kindness toward others. To imitate means to copy or follow an example to be like someone or something else. What do your actions tell about you? Write the kind words you might say to a new person in your classroom. Write the acts of kindness you might do if you know someone in your class is having a problem. For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever. Praise ye the Lord. Psalm 117:2 5 Lesson 1
