Volume 16, Issue 7 December 7, 2018 Lustre Christian High School The Tumbleweed November was another chapel day for the students at LCHS. Pastor Charles Kelly from Scobey came and spoke to the students about his personal mission statement. Kelly's goal was to persuade the students that they should also have a "mission statement" in their lives. Kelly started off his chapel by introducing what a "mission statement" is by reminding A Mission Statement for our Personal Lives By Emily Eggar 15 th listeners that most organizations, including the school, have a mission statement that they use to define what their goals are. Mission statements are used to set a standard of what is expected. As Christians, it is Important to establish a mission within our lives. When we do that, we know what to expect from ourselves and, with the correct motivation, be able to strengthen our walk with God. Kelly then went on to say, "if you have a mis- sion statement in your life you can ask yourself, 'what do I need to do today to fulfill my mission?'" Kelly made it clear that he applies this question in his life daily. Kelly's personal mission statement is, "If each day I grow in friendship with Jesus then, in the end, I will have fulfilled my life's purpose." What does "Friendship with Jesus" mean? Kelly (Mission... continued on page 2) Inside this issue: Chapel - Nov. 15 1 Chapel - Nov. 29 1 Senior Chapels: Emily & Kirubel 2 Girl s Basketball 3 Boy s Basketball 3 Operation Christmas Child 4 Christmas Puzzle 4 Announcements 5 Calendar 6 On Thurs., Nov. 29, Pablo & Judi Perez came and spoke to us for chapel. They shared a tool, called The Three Circles, to help us share the gospel with others. The first circle shows 3 negative things in the world today, such as violence, pride, and hardheartedness. Pablo explained that this illustrates the brokenness of Three Circles Shared By: Ernest Uy the world. Around the circle, Judi wrote worldly ways that people try to escape the brokenness, like drugs, friends, fame, and money. Judi then drew a second circle, and wrote the words harmony and peace inside and wrote God outside. Pablo explained that God created a harmonious world in the beginning. Next, Judi drew a line between the first and the second circles, and wrote SIN in a box intersecting that line. Pablo explained that sin creates a barrier between this world and God. Judi then drew a door in the first circle, (Circles continued on page 2)

The first weekend of November brought about another senior chapel. Emily Eggar presented her senior chapel on Nov. 8th. Her topic was on dating and healthy relationships. She started off by defining the world s definition of dating. The world defines dating as a "good time" and something that does not require commitment. Senior Chapel - Emily By: Sadie Brown Emily focuses on the question "How can we have a relationship with a guy while still maintaining a relationship with God?" She went on to say that people will tell you "if it makes you feel good or makes you look good, just go for it." She explained that this focus has become selfish, looking for a good time for ourselves. Our focus should be to honor God through our relationships. Important verses she mentioned were Phil. 4:8 and Prov. 4:23 which talk about guarding you heart. Emily went on with her chapel to say that it s important to maintain a clear focus on God. Pray, study and seek council. She showed a list she had made for her future husband. She concludes by challenging us to make our own list and stay true to it. Make sure you keep your attitude in check and guard you heart and focus on Him. On November 8 th, Kirubel Legesse gave his senior chapel. The worship team sang Give us clean hands by Chris Tomlin before his chapel. Kirubel talked about Loving the world vs. Loving Christ Jesus. Kirubel advise us that this it s one of the major things a myriad of people struggle with. He mentioned that we need to choose since according to the Matthew chapter 6:24, No one can serve two masters, so that we cannot love world and God at the same time. The Q talks by: Gillbert Choi Then, he mentioned about the three temptations. First, the lust of the flesh. The lust of the flesh is that temptation to feel physical pleasure. Then, the lust of eyes; the temptation to look things we should not look at. Lastly, the pride of the life: that sinful temptation when you looking for greatness or power. These days, our generation seems to love the world more than Christ Jesus. Loving the world is different from loving Christ, loving the world leads to sin and temptation. Loving Christ means finding and making the most of our identity by reading, praying and exercising the faith. What is important in our lives? Thank you for sharing Kirubel! (Mission continued from page 1) elaborated on that phrase by saying that he meant companionship with Jesus, a personal walk with Him. He also told the students that "friendship with Jesus" can mean being useful in the kingdom of God, passing along the love of Jesus. Kelly used several personal stories to solidify what he was teaching, before concluding with a call to action that encour- Page 2 (Circles continued from page 1) and an arrow from the first worldly circle to a third Holy Spirit circle, showing that God provides a way out through Jesus s resurrection. The Holy Spirit allows us to believe in Christ and turn from sin, restoring our relationship with God. However, Pablo and Judi explained that our job isn t done. According to John 10:9 we must go back in to be ambassa- dors to the world, bringing people to Christ. After that illustration, Pablo and Judi made parallels between missionary work and farm work. Missionaries enter cities as farmers enter fields, preach the word as farmers plant seeds, strengthen disciples as farmers grow crops, and form churches as farmers harvest. Missionaries appoint leaders to form more churches as farmers save seeds for the next plant.

Volume 16, Issue 7 First Games of the Year Girls by Kassie Kirkaldie On Friday and Saturday (November 30 th and December 1 st ), the Lustre Lions traveled to Glasgow for their first basketball games of the year. Unfortunately, the Lady Lions walked away with two losses against the Glasgow JV team and Geraldine/Highwood. An early game on Friday, at nine in the morning, the girls played Glasgow and lost 26-45. Sadie Brown was the high scorer with 18 points, Olivia Brown had 4 points, and Amber Reddig and Lily Short had 2 points apiece. On Saturday at Noon, the Lady Lions lost to Geraldine/ Highwood 28-38. Kassie Kirkaldie was the high scorer with 13 points, Olivia had 9, and Sadie and Amber both scored 3 points. Another series of games will take place this weekend in Wolf Point, and both the Lady Lions and Lions will play Brockton and Froid / Medicine Lake on Friday and Saturday. First Games of the Year Boys By: Kirubel Legesse This Friday and Saturday in Glasgow High School, the Lustre Christian boys basketball team was off to a great start with wins against two teams. On Friday, the Lions played against the Terry Terriers. Throughout the whole game, the Lions played a strong defensive game. However, the offensive game was played poorly, and the Terry Terriers came back. After the 2nd half, the Lustre Lions played strong, scoring more points and winning the Page 3 game, 47-26. On the second day of the tournament the Lustre Lions played against the Turner Tornadoes, the first half the Lions played a strong defensive game, tying it up and during the second half the teams kept exchanging the lead. Zach Brown and Terry Almer were in a foul trouble in most part of the game. The Lustre Lions then came back in the last quarter, winning the game 52-45. In the Terry game the leading scorers were Terry Allmer and Kolden Hoversland. Terry scored 14 points and Kolden scored 9 points. The leading scorers in the Turner game were Zach Brown and Kyle Pederson. Zach scored 15 points and Kyle scored 13 points. Even though the Terry game was rough and the Turner game was messy, the Lions pulled off the win both times.

LUSTRE CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL Christmas is just around the corner and our community has been packing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. The EMB and MB churches both held drives as well as the AWANA group, who packed them during the club. During their national collection week, they pick up boxes at more than 4000 drop off points. Operation Christmas Child is a Samaritan s Purse project that fills empty shoeboxes with necessities and small toys and will then be sent to the hardest-to-reach countries around the world. Some of Operation Christmas Child By Zach Brown the things that are often placed in the boxes are hygiene products such as soap, tooth brushes and tooth paste. Things such as soccer balls school supplies and dolls are also put in. Some people have also made small crafts and such for the children that will receive it. Operation Christmas Child was started in 1993 and has since delivered 135 million boxes to over 150 countries around the world. There are more than 500,000 volunteers that help make this work. Samaritan`s Purse has a follow up disciple project called The Greatest Journey in which they offer discipleship to the children that have been reached with the shoe boxes. More than 7.4 million children have participated in this follow up project. Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
