Slichot Service On Saturday evening, August 31st, we will hold our Slichot Service in preparation tor the arrival of the High Holy Days. This beautiful service, which sets the mood for the coming penitential season, will be conducted by Rabbi Brickman and Cantor Pscheidt and will feature our High Holy Day Choir, under the direction of our organist, Andrew Moore. The service will be preceded by a special program, which will begin at 8:30 p.m. Our entertainer will be famed comedian Terry McGrath. Mr. McGrath has entertained our congregation in the past. We are sure you will enjoy his return engagement to Temple Beth-El as much as you've enjoyed him before. Refreshments will be served following the entertainment. High Holy Day Reminders High Holy Day tickets are being sent to those members who have paid all of their financial obligations to the Temple. If you are in arrears, please send your check to the Temple office now, so that your tickets can be mailed to you in time for Rosh HaShanah. If for some reason, you are unable to send in your payment at the current time, please call the office to make an arrangement, so that you will be able to receive your tickets. It is customary for members of the Temple to bring their own personal copies of our High Holy Day Prayerbook to each service. If you do not own a set of prayerbooks, please come to the Temple office to purchase a set. Prayerbooks must be purchased prior to the Holy Days, because they will not be available at services. If you have extra copies of the High Holy Day Prayerbooks which you no longer use, we would appreciate it if you would bring them to the Temple office.
High Holy Day Baby-sitting Once again, we ~lan on providing baby-sitting at the Temple during the High Holy Days. Baby-sitting will be available on the morning of the first day of Rosh HaShanah and on the morning of Yom Kippur. If you are interested in baby-sitting at either of these services, please call the Temple office immediately. We must have an accurate count of how many children to expect in order to provide proper supervision. Sabbath Service Notes Our regular schedule of Sabbath Services resumes on Friday, September 6 and Saturday September 7. We look forward to welcoming Cantor Pscheidt and our organist, Andrew Moore, back to our Sabbath Evening services. We invite all of our members to worship with us at our delightful Sabbath Morning Service and to share in the Kiddush which follows. Membership Increasing our Temple membership continues to be one of our highest priorities. Temple Beth~EI welcomes all unaffiliated Jews in our community to join our congregation. Both newcomers to our community, and long-time residents of Jersey City are invited to join. If you know someone who may be interested in Temple membership, please urge them to call Rabbi Brickman so that he can introduce them to our Temple. Prospective members are also invited to our Slichot Service or to worship with us at any of our Sabbath Services. Memorial Plaques & Gold Leaves Memorial plaques for our Sanctuary or gold leaves for our "Simcha Tree" can be ordered by calling Tesse Chasan, 434-5979, or the Temple office, 333-4229.

ARZA Needs You! ARZA-the Association of Reform Zionists in America-needs your vote for delegates to the World Zionist Congress, scheduled for June, 1992. The Congress, which will be held 1n Jerusalem, is referred to as the "Parliament of the Jewish People." It provides the only Jewish democratically elected forum in which Israeli and diaspora Jews face each other on an equal footing, exchanging views in an open, honest way. For Reform Jews, the Congress is an especially important vehicle to send the Israeli government a message on the importance of religious pluralism. ARZA membership makes you eligible to vote for delegates to the Congress, where a large and visible Reform delegation will help safeguard the future of Reform Judaism in Israel. We urge you to join or renew your ARZA membership, by sending your check for $20.00, made payable to Temple Beth-El, to Rabbi Brickman as soon as possible. You must be a paid-up ARZA member to be eligible to vote, and we must turn your name in to ARZA by the end of September. Act now; make your ARZA membership count for religious pluralism in Israel. Violet Zall-Hordes Family Education Program Thanks to a grant received from the Violet Zall-Hordes Charitable Foundation, Temple Beth-El will be instituting a monthly family education program. After a lengthy search, we have engaged Susan Stepper to coordinate and teach the program. We are certain that Susan's many skills in Jewish music and the arts will enhance this exciting new program. Save the Date Sunday, November 3, 1991 The Violet Zall-Hordes Lecture Series presents Rabbi Marc Tannenbaum
