Heritage Ministries exists to preserve our heritage while encouraging our Churches to pursue fresh vision. We want to cherish and remember our heritage, but we do not want to lose sight of why we exist today.
1 Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:
Our goal is not to live in the past, but to learn from the past.
We have a heritage of evangelism We have a heritage of church planting We have a heritage of worship We have a heritage of fellowship We have a heritage of prayer We have a heritage of leadership development We have a heritage of racial diversity We have a heritage of the pursuit of truth
How does this rich heritage relate to today s vision? Proverbs 29:18 tells us that without vision, the people perish. One translator states that without vision, the people cast off restraint.
When we try to understand our heritage absent of vision, we tend to live in the past. We may visit where God has been, but we do not have a clue where he is now. When we look to the past through the lens of vision, the past serves as a textbook and a reminder.
We remember his benefits because they not only remind us of what God has done yesterday, they also remind us of what God will still do today.
We cannot and we should not believe that our best days are behind us, we must believe that the best is yet ahead. As good as it is has been, it will be even better. The latter rain will be greater than the former.
Funding for this ministry comes from donations and Heritage Ministries Association Memberships. Individual Memberships, which are $10.00, provide financial support for efforts to preserve our heritage and maintain and improve Fields of the Wood, the First Assembly House, the Shearer Schoolhouse site, and the Holy Ghost Marker.
While Heritage Ministries is about more than Fields of the Wood, the bulk of the funds raised are used to operate the park. Heritage Partner Program is a way to partner at Fields of the Wood by adopting a marker, building, or project with a one time, monthly, quarterly or annual donation.
Fields of the Wood is a place of prayer, a place of evangelism, and a place of unity. It is a place that not only tells yesterday s story; it also testifies of who we are today.
