I have a treat in store for y all but you ll need to be present on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. to receive it. Here are the details: One Sunday a year we United Methodists have a special worship emphasis to assist and to encourage us to what is traditionally referred to as the priesthood of all believers. Basically what that means is that each one of us has particular Spiritual gifts, generously given to us as part of our DNA creation by the God who loves us and creates us uniquely made. In other words every Christian person is empowered to work for the Kingdom of God by sharing God s love in whatever way the Lord directs. The Sunday I speak of above is Laity Sunday. This year Laity Sunday is this coming Sunday, October 16. In order to assist us in remembering our call to faith and faithfulness I have invited my longtime friend Lisa Johnson to come share with us. Some of you met Lisa during one of her previous visits. All who attend worship will recognize her through the gifts she provides to the church nearly every Sunday morning; an original opening prayer and benediction, both specific to the theme of the day. Lisa has chosen the lectionary scripture II Timothy 3: 14 to 4: 5. Sermon title: 3 Ways to Cure Itching Ears. Please make the choice to come for Christian worship this coming Sunday. You ll be blessed by Lisa s presence and messages. Among her Spiritual gifts is the title of writer. She serves as Senior Writer at Halliburton. Lisa lives in Houston and is a member of Fair Haven United Methodist Church. See you Sunday, if not before. Regards and God Bless... Children s Corner by Chandra Sorrells Youth News by Matthew Potter Page 3 The Yamboree is upon us and that means that our youth will be parking cars for our annual fundraiser. The youth will park cars leading up to the parade on Friday, October 21st and Saturday, October 22nd from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Breakfast will be provided. Plans have changed for the youth regarding Fall-tastic. The youth will be combining with the children's ministry and Boy Scouts to help that evening. Falltastic is going to be Monday, October 31st starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Yamboree livestock pavilion. If you have any questions regarding either event please let me know. Hope to see everyone there! Matthew Falltastic!! Candy is needed for the Falltastic being held Monday, Oct 31 st, 6:00-8:30 p.m. at the Yamboree Sale Barn. Your donations can be left in the tub outside the church office. Also anyone wishing to volunteer for an hour at the booth would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping make this a fun safe event for the children of our community. Mission Moment Time is fast approaching for us to pack our Operation Christmas Child boxes. I know that doesn't seem right since it's barely October! But the collection date is just over a month away. We REALLY need donations NOW. Small toys that will fit in shoeboxes, t- shirts, ball caps, jewelry, coloring books, small flashlights with extra batteries, underwear, socks, play-doh, hair accessories, unused kids' meal prizes, even plastic cups or water bottles, bowls and utensils!...these are just a few of the kinds of things that are great box fillers. Just remember--no used items, no liquids, and nothing war related. Monetary donations are great, too. You can also fill a whole shoebox yourself for a boy or girl! Robin Woodson Chandra

Page 4 Music Notes by Lora Robison On Sunday, October 23, we look forward to hearing Frances Kendall speak. We will be using scripture from Psalm 65 that day and will be using the musical responses from the hymnal. Our hymns for the day will be How Great Thou Art, There s a Wideness In God s Mercy, and Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior all from The United Methodist Hymnal. Soloist, Steve Nye will be singing I Believe for the offertory and the Chancel Choir will be singing Here I Stand by Berry. Our October 30, service will be focused upon scripture from Luke 19:1-10. The sermon topic by Reverend Laster will be The Story of Zacchaeus: Small in Stature Tall in Faith. The hymns for the day will be Have Thine Own Way, Lord, a Congregation s Choice, and We Would See Jesus all from The United Methodist Hymnal. Jubilation Bells will be ringing Just As I Am arranged by McChesney for the offertory. The Chancel Choir will be singing Here I Am arranged by Schrader. FALL FOLLIES are coming on Wednesday evening, October 26, at 6:00 p.m. in the Christian Life Center. An informal fall dinner of hot dogs, corn dogs, and all the trimmings will be enjoyed. Talent offered by many groups including Jubilation Bells, Chancel Choir, Joy Singers, as well as other members and groups of the church will be enjoyed. Special guest singer will be CORI BEASLEY who will present several songs from Broadway. Special thanks goes to our show coordinator and director, Buzzy Green! Admission to Fall Follies is by DO- NATIONS ONLY for MUSIC MINISTRIES to help pay for orchestra for Christmas and Easter music. We hope you will be in attendance! Great fun is promised for all! Sunday evening, October 30, a Service of Healing and Wholeness will be offered in the Sanctuary at 5:00 p.m. We hope you will attend this reflective and meaningful service offered by our Worship Committee. Holidays are just around the corner. Your Music Ministries teams are very busy rehearsing overtime to help make this a most WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR! See you in worship! In Christ s Love, Lora Attention, All Chili Lovers The annual Methodist Men s chili supper will be held on the day of the last home Buckeye game, November 4th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at FUMC Gilmer. The cost will be $7.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. You can purchase tickets ahead of time from a Methodist man or at the door the day of the event. The price of your ticket will get you dessert, drink and of course, our extra special chili in regular or spicy. As usual, we are asking the ladies of the church to provide desserts. So come on down for a really good deal and a really good meal! Methodist Men

Fall is a time when we fondly remember the carefree days of summer, and as God brushes the countryside in colors of gold, red, orange and Jesus yellow, we are reminded of the joy of the by Babs Crombie harvest. Our Fall puppet season is off and running, and performances begin with dedicated planning. Rehearsals, costumes, set creations, and publicity are all part of our planning process. Excellence is always essential in every ministry opportunity. God deserves our best and we should take every opportunity to honor Him. The puppet team is doing just that by being well prepared for our upcoming performances for the church and community. Be sure to come out to see the puppet team perform several great shows at the Falltastic" on Monday, October 31st from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the Yamboree grounds in the Ag Barn. There will be lots of entertainment, games, and treats for everyone. Entry Fee is a non-perishable food item to be donated to Upshur County Shares Food Pantry. Come have a fun night and support a worthy cause. Our team will also be performing at the annual Fall Follies Fundraiser dinner on Wednesday, October 26th in the Christian Life Center. We have a really special show planned that we've never presented at the church before, and you certainly won't want to miss it! Our church members have SO much talent! Christmas is just around the corner, and that means we will be running full speed ahead for our annual Christmas musical and Night with Santa on Sunday, December 4th at 6:00 pm. Special "THANK YOU" to our Children's Church puppet team performers who presented to the children a special performance of "Jesus Feast with Simon." Tessa Betterton, Nick Sorrells, Adam Fenlaw, and Babs Crombie presented a show that led into the discussion afterwards about forgiving and asking Jesus to forgive us. We want to wish a few of our puppeteers a speedy recovery and let them know they were missed: Joseph Fenlaw, Lisa Fenlaw, and Mimi Ross.
