Library Now Open! The library is now ready for use. It still needs some fine tuning, but we welcome you to use and peruse it. We have been busy organizing and cleaning, and hope to add some space. We will have the categories clearly marked soon, and the entire catalog posted on the website and a printed copy in the library. We have many wonderful resources, ranging from Bible study to fiction to children's books to teaching material. The teen material has been relocated to their Sunday School classroom. Please take time to take a look. We also have many audio and video items, including the past six months of church services. We only ask that you place all returns in the box provided. Donations are also welcome. We are going to use the honor system, so there is no need to fill out a card. You may use the material as long as you wish. We request that you be respectful of others with your time. "Nothing But Nets" is a grassroots campaign which helps prevent malaria by the use of hanging nets. This project has been approved as an Advance Special Offering through the United Methodist Board of Global Missions. That means that you can now donate a gift by writing a check to our local church Mt. Blanchard UMC and noting Nothing But Nets in the memo line. 100% of giving to the Advance goes to the purchase and distribution of bed nets. The people of The United Methodist Church have been in mission across Africa for more than 160 years. Thank you for your patience while waiting for the library to be updated. National Treasure is this month's Family Movie Night selection. Please remember this event is not just for kids, but for the whole family, this is why it is called "Family" movie night! Trade in life's busy schedule for just one night of relaxing with your family! Refreshments are served at 7:00 pm and the movie starts at 7:30. In July we will be hosting the Picnic in the Park on the 29th in the evening and this year the entertainment is YOU! We need your help because we are having a talent show and we want to see the all the hidden talent just waiting to be discovered. You may be surprised who has talent and who doesn't! The sign up sheet will be located on a table in the Solarium starting the first Sunday of this month (June) so you should have plenty of time to get your act/s together. This event is open to children to participate in too! This could be the start of our own "Mt Blanchard's Got Talent"!

THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IN MT. BLANCHARD Adoration Confession Thanksgiving Supplication How do you talk with God? Communication through prayer is essential for our relationship with God. On June 24 th, we will begin a series designed to strengthen and deepen our prayer lives. Making Prayer Your Second Language is a four-week series that will help us understand basic elements of prayer based on the ACTS model (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication) and how to apply them effectively. Scriptures, sermons, videos, and music will follow the theme of the day. Plan now to join us for this important series as we explore how to make prayer your second language. The Meaning of Church Colors The Christian Calendar The Christian Calendar is made up of several seasons. The seasons of the year are centered around the birth, life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the sending of the Holy Spirit to the Church, and our part in the Kingdom of God. Special Sundays and other days within the Christian Year serve as times to celebrate particular events of importance to us as Christians. Different seasons of the Christian Year have colors and other symbols associated with them to remind us of the meaning of the season. Bright Blue Bright Blue symbolizes the sky or heaven, where choirs of angels proclaimed Jesus' birth. It can symbolize the waters of Genesis 1, the beginning of a new creation. It can also symbolize the sky in which the star appeared to announce the birth of Jesus. While purple has traditionally been the color used for Advent, Blue is increasingly used to distinguish it from Lent. White White symbolizes purity, holiness, and virtue, as well as respect and reverence. White is used for special days like Christmas and Easter, as well as for baptism, marriage, ordination, and dedications. It can also be used for funerals as a symbol of the resurrection. Green Green symbolizes the renewal of vegetation and generally of living things and the promise of new life. It is used for the season of Epiphany and between Pentecost and the beginning of Advent Purple Purple can symbolize pain, suffering, and therefore mourning and penitence. It is the liturgical color for the Season of Lent. It is also the color of royalty, so traditionally has also been used for Advent and is still used in Catholic churches. However, Blue is replacing purple for Advent in many Protestant churches. Red Red is the color of fire and so symbolizes the presence of God. It is the color for Pentecost. In some traditions it is used at funerals, particularly the funerals of pastors when many clergy wear their red ordination stoles.
