January Sermon Series: Letters to the Church For years we have talked about the church and what she means to God s work in our world. And just like so many things, we can begin to believe things about the church that are not biblical and are not pleasing to God. In January, we are going to explore some passages about God and how He looks at His creation, the church. We are going to ask ourselves is what we experience in church what we find in the scriptures? You won t want to miss this sincere look at the church in scripture. Cross Point Welcomes That Flue Guy David K Cross Point welcome That Flute Guy David K, who will join us January 6 for a special time of worship. David Konstantopoulos is an award winning flutist and speaker. Faith of a Child During a Sunday morning service in December, Nathan Barnes, Worship Pastor at Cross Point Church, shared a heart touching story about his daughter, Emerie. Emerie had heard about the Operation Warm outreach project the church was conducting. Operation Warm is an outreach project in partnership with the Beckley Fire Department to help provide jackets to young children in in Raleigh County who otherwise might not have a warm coat for the Winter. Emerie was moved by what she heard and began to wonder if some of her own classmates might not have a Winter coat. Without any prodding from her mom or dad, Emerie began telling other family members and her teachers at school about Operation Warm and asking for donations. Emerie was able to raise enough money to purchase 7 coats. Recently, Emerie had the opportunity to go with Chris Graham, who is one of Beckley Fire Department's firefighters and who helps with the Operation Warm project, to distribute the coats. The Youth Ministry will be collecting scrap metal to help fund some of their upcoming youth events. Please bring your scrap metal to the church on February 7. Please leave the scrap metal in the back gravel lot near the red shed. Simply contact Pastor Rob at (304) 252-6684. Thank you for helping support the Youth Ministry! Stockings for Veterans Outreach Update During the months of November and December, Cross Point Church partnered with Calfee Funeral Home for the Stockings for Veterans Outreach. Folks were asked to pick up a stocking and fill with goodies and return it to the church. The stockings were then collected and distributed to veterans at the Beckley Veterans Hospital. Thank you to everyone who participated in this outreach project. You filled 90 stockings with Christmas cheer for some of our local heroes! Women s Book Club Women, be sure to mark January 15, 2019, on your calendar as the date the Women s Book Club meets! Bring a friend and come out at 10:30 a.m. and begin your new year with us as we start to read, A Lineage of Grace, by Francine Rivers. This book contains five novellas on the women in the lineage of Jesus Christ. We will begin with the story of Tamar which is the first 89 pages of the book. The remaining novellas which focus on Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary will be read separately during the year. Each of these Biblical women have lessons to teach us on hope (Tamar), faith (Rahab), love (Ruth), unlimited grace (Bathsheba), and obedience (Mary, the mother of Christ). We will learn about how these women were not perfect, yet God used them in His perfect plan to bring forth Christ, the Savior of the world. Please remember if the schools in the county are closed because of snow, we will not meet that day and we will reschedule our meeting for another day. If there is a two hour delay, we will still meet at 10:30 am on the scheduled day. January 2019 6
Prayer Chain Prayer is a powerful tool we have as Christians. As a church family we can help lift each other up in prayer. One way we do this at Cross Point is through our Prayer Chain. The prayer chain is a group of people who have opted in to receive prayer requests. When an urgent prayer request is received, it is sent to this group using our church notification system. Each member then receives the request so they can begin praying for the need. Individuals who would like to be added to the prayer chain should contact Justin Davis in the church office at (304) 252-6684. To submit a prayer request, follow this procedure: Monday-Thursday 9:00a.m. 3:00p.m.: Call the church office at: (304) 252-6684. All other times, call Justin Davis at (304) 575-2363. If no answer, leave a message and Justin will put it on the prayer chain as soon as possible. Rent A Youth Is there a job on your to do list that you just don t have time or you don t want to do?
